    What's the route like?

A couple of v.steep hills as I recall but nothing too hideous. this map my ride route reckons only 800m of climb but I'd say a bit more than that.

EDIT: Just looked on SWRC website and they reckon 87 miles and 1700m which is more like it.

I just read through virtually this entire thread...
Where does one enter for all these wonderful sportives? I am new around here and would like to do a sportive or 2 in the next coupel of months.

Google takes me to events which have all closed...

    Bontie.

a good starting point is :

    http://www.cyclosport.org/events.aspx

They list hundreds of events - just search for where you live and when you fancy doing it and they'll direct you to the organiser's website.

Anyway, good to hear some interest. A few local sportives are the way forward for me this year.

@ Bontie. Also check out the Birtish Cycling website. I'm pretty sure they have a sportive section with a similarly exaustive list (it might even link to cyclosport.org)

    CR1 Pro frame, force gruppo.

It's all in bits at the moment and I'm waiting on a BB86 which should arrive on Monday. Going to get The Bike Fixer to put it all together for me.

Anyone want a place on the Gran Fondo (200km) route for the Verenti Dragon Ride on June 5th?

My mate has pulled out having only ridden 20 miles since getting knocked off a couple of months ago. His place is now up for grabs. Will be £32 (original entry price).

PM me and it's on a first come first serve basis.

That was hard work. 95 miles and wind didn't help.

Was aiming for 5 hrs 30, but only managed 5 hrs 40. Still good enough for gold though.

    Happy.

Right, off to finish the remaining food in the fridge.....

Much better, but still not quite right.

Back still hurts a little so I'm going to raise the stack again. I also think I'm too far forward so I'll get a shorter stem and move the seat back accordingly.

Get yourself a proper bike fit done. Problem solved.

My current positioning is the result of a fit and a follow-up at Sigma.

Would buying a stem which is angled upwards be an option? I did that on my first road bike when I was experiencing shoulder and back pain - the stem was angled down so i flipped it.

I've not had the steerer cut yet, so I've still got plenty of room to play with there. The current drop is 6.7cm which is a bit lower than we were happy with at the fitting. I'm just going to raise the stack my a cm and see how I get on at the May Flyer next weekend.

  • Did I meet you on the way to Sigma on the Thursday evening before Easter weekend?! Leaving RP by Kingston Gate I was on the white Trek heading home to Sussex. If so, nice to put face to name.

Is it possible that your back pain is not directly from the bike/fit rather from an injury that only manifests when you put the strain on it of a prolonged period in the cycling position? (Before you totally reconfigure your bike!)

That was you with the epic commute? Chapeau sir!

Anyway, I've just been over the bike and found the problem was probably of my own making; it appears that at some point my saddle moved 15mm back as I don't think I did the clamp up tightly enough.

    Idiot me.

Fixed now and I'll see how it goes next weekend.

Keep an eye on that. Mine was slipping on every ride this time last year. It was a problem with the washer, so got a new one.

Yeah, was a nice day out (if you like wind and hills). ;)

Just checked the times and I was 5.46. A chap I used to work with came in 59 minutes quicker than me...

6:05 for me, which I'm pleased with. Didn't really have an aim, but would have expected 6:30+. Rode mostly on my own, but did have a good group for possibly the worst of the headwind.
