I'm holding out for starting the longest thread in ProCycling this year. 8)
Once a decision comes down, it should be good for at least another 20 pages.
Try starting a thread with women in ever decreasing amounts of lycra - that should achieve your aim0 -
I always wondered whether Contador would be cleaner than most because of his earlier health issues. Wishful thinking on my part.
And apart from the duel with the Chicken (ET alert), he did have bad days, which again made me wonder if he was cleaner than most. He never really destroyed a Grand Tour the way LA did the TdF.
For me, it was health issues/bad days (he's clean) vs. dubious associations over the entire career (dirty). What was I thinking?
The ground has shifted on Bertie -- he may have had a nice deal worked out with the UCI, but further tests/loose lips have made WADA ready to jump.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out...0 -
frenchfighter wrote:For your first point yes I guess that is true if you assume Contador is full on doping which I certainly dont.
That Riis is just ridiculous and miles apart from recent years. Even when Contador attacks, or other GC riders, the gaps they open are not mostly huge.
Except of course for when he and Rasmussen were playing with the field in '07.
So FF, you accept now that he was a little bit doping, just not full on doping?0 -
The whole health issue thing was the reason I used to believe LA was clean - something along the lines of "he's lucky to be alive, I can't imagine he would risk his health again just to win a bike race" [law suit prevention clause] (obviously this is probably still the case as he has never failed a test) [/law suit prevention clause]. It seems that some riders are focussed on winning at literally any cost.0

So this Humo article, anyone seen what it says?Contador is the Greatest0

I don't really buy the "health issue thing" as much of anything that riders think about.
Most of them are too young and immortal to be worried about anything happening to THEM
because they used dope. At that age bad things only happen to other people. You give them way too much credit for being "wise", for lack of a better word.
As for the win at any cost, well, we're talking professional sports here. I'm not sure there is much else involved except winning.0 -
Many pro athletes smoke, drink to excess or use hard-core narcotics - substances that not only have health concerns but that also clearly -hurt- performance. Why in the world would we think they wouldn't use substances that are supposed to enhance performance, health risks be damned?0

Ok. The result for Contador was meant to be released between two days ago and today. I assumed that they were hanging on for info in the article before they made a response. Hopefully one will be made tomorrow.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Contador’s efforts to go unpunished could be hampered by the fact that Clenbuterol was banned by the European Union in 1996. According to AP, it tested 83,203 animal samples in Europe between 2008 and 2009; just one of those was positive. During the same period, Spain tested 19,431 samples in those years and no traces of the drug were found.
If only they could teach the cows to cycle we'd finally have a clean peleton!

Unfortunately thats what most people who don't know jack sh*t about pro bike riding have been suckered into thinking. They don't call him Pharmstrong on the US forums for nowt.............

Will be interesting to see that Bernie Kool's dirty doc has to say in his booook.............
Plus the UCI didn't bring in the 49% haematocrit level for nothing................basically they knew what was going on and had to protect the riders health before an EPO test was developed. Only way to do it.

So you know pro cycling huh? Are any of the pro tour riders friends of yours? Have you ever worked for a pro team? Traveled with one? Ever talked with a member of one(other than to ask for an autograph)? Ever seen a pro cyclist use dope? Ever ridden in a pro race? Do you know anything at all about AC or LA or any others, other than what you have read? Has any pro rider ever confided in you? Over a beer? Have you ever seen, with you own eyes, evidence of doping? I doubt that you've answered yes to any of these questions so can only assume that you don't know "jack sh*t" either.0 -
^--- That's a little harsh Dennis. You don't need to know any of those things to know all about doping in the Pro peleton. Good reading skills is enough. Any news story of another pro cyclist being busted for doping pretty much covers it.0

I havent been into space to see it but im pretty sure the earth is round and not flat.0

To be honest, I know it's a bit harsh. I've just got a thing for people who claim to know
all about something that they have never even really been close to, be it the person who knows why his team lost over the weekend and had he been the coach would have prevented it and all the people on this forum who think they know all the ins and outs and inbetweens of pro cycling. It's back to my old thing of you don't know a thing about someone from reading a book about him(even if that person wrote it). Good reading skills are NOT enough to know someone. Not even close. I've read a good share of your posts but don't know a damn thing about you, in the sense of knowing you as a person and a friend. No clue. Same thing with AC or LA or whomever. I don't know them. I'll tell you who I do know though, wife, family, friends, and neighbors that I see a lot and I didn't get to know them through good reading skills.0 -

Im suprised Dennis didnt come back saying... "So you know astronomy do you? Are any Astronauts friends of yours? Have you ever worked for Nasa? Ever even talked to an Astronaut (other than to ask for directions)?. ...."
...course, he didn't, cos its pretty instantly obvious the world isnt flat, but its obvious how engrained doping in pro cycling is too... mention a certain 2 letters though and.... :roll:0 -
Been away from this thread for a while and since its so huge I am not going to spend 1/2 my life reading it, interesting though it is.
If its already been posted I apologise. Article from yahoo:
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/12102010/58/scientist-dismisses-threshold-call.html"That's why cocaine is only banned in competition, and why we don't even report it if it's only there in small quantities. Clenbuterol, though, is always prohibited."
So a snort before a competition is OK, but not clem. Blimey, its enough to make you want to light up a spliff to calm yourself down. Can I upgrade???0 -
