Barredo's got 40 seconds on them already.

Did they forget to pay him?

Perhaps he puts honour above financial gain. Perhaps the script calls for someone to go for a long one whilst the rest tow Armstrong along, so setting him up for an exciting final km solo break just as the breakaway rider is caught.

They're really letting Barredo get away. not smart the way he's been looking today.

If Armstrong doesn't win this one, he deserves credit for taking the initiative, burying himself early on in the stage and for reading how the race would pan out to perfection.

    Give with one hand...
(Although what was likely to happen was pretty obvious!). If he manages to win as well, it will be about as believable as the outcome of a Giant Haystacks vs. Big Daddy wrestling match!

    Take with the other...

Nah, in pro bike racing they always ride to the limit, especially the main contenders. Oh, hang on a minute.

Is this your 1st Grand Tour ? i ask becuase every GT i have ever watched has days like this yet you are somehow making this out be something unusual.

Interesting piece on Andy's mechanical. According to Zinn, Andy DID have a chain catcher: http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/07/ ... off_130090

The problem is the chain jumped off from the bottom not the top. AND, he says this could ONLY happen with a SRAM derailer.

What are opinions of this year's Tour? I think it's been one of the best for a while, and there's still scope for more excitement tomorrow and Saturday.

The green jersey competition is still open too, which adds to the interest.

The only way the Tour has suffered is in that the Giro was so good it has a lot to live up to.

    That's still 10th.

    Barredo
    V d Walle
    Armstrong
    Horner
    Casar
    Cunego
    Fedrigo
    Moreau
    Plaza

    No idea where Konovalovas is.

Thor is such a legend isn't he! He totally deserves the green jersey after this effort.

Kelly "suggesting" that some in the breakaway might want to gift Lance the stage.
    Must be a wind up.

Barredo will get caught 10km to go i reckon, BB's prediction is playing out perfectly. He is a wise old fellow

They'll likely catch Barredo but it's going to take a bit. They're not reeling him in very quickly.

It is still hard to pre-judge how things will pan out. Armstrong has hardly seen the front all day, but he still might be so cooked that he will only win if some of the others ride along with their brakes on. Then again, with Horner there it might only need a couple of other riders to 'come over' in order for him to have enough help to neutralise anyone who refuses to play ball and so to set him up for the win.

They've started to close in a bit on that last km (4 to 3) a bit closer again at 2km
