Interestig stage this - at first sight an ordinary hilly transition stage, but the Cote de Laffrey is very tough and steep - 7km at no less than 9% average. Not yet the Mortirolo, but too steep to ride up piano piano as a sleepy peloton. Too far from the finish for any of the favorites, but perhaps a place for an outsider to try something, or otherwise interesting to see who of the sprinters manages to stick in the bunch...0

Last km:
Bastille Day today so obviously the French will be very active.Contador is the Greatest0 -
Petacchi wins the sprint, Hushovd second, McEwen third. Cav didn't contest it.0
-
Haven't seen much of Gerdemann last couple of days, and he can descend well. Could be one for him...0
-
Love it when Harmon says the peloton are "strung out". Huh huh.Le Blaireau (1)0

Splitting to pieces - if the favourites aren't careful they could end up working very hard today. Wonder what's up with Cummings, don't very often see him hanging on the back but he's been there for the whole stage so far.0

The first mountain looks unreal. Big GC boys to escape from the rest at this point?
More post-race interviews with Wiggins now aiming for a top 50 placing in the GC?The British Empire never died, it just moved to the Velodrome0 -
I'm not in front of ES at the moment - has Cadel started this stage or abandoned?"Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult"0

Hi pomtarr, Evans is still in the race.
Four men up the road but, sacre bleu, no French riders. Could be a lively stage.0 -
Will Popo pack? Seems to be a headwind. Finally we have a selection of 4.
No Frenchy!
B Box and Ag2r haven't quit just yet................

A break of four has been let go.
Mario Aerts (Omega Pharma-Lotto)
Dries Devenyns (QuickStep)
Sergio Paolinho (RadioShack)
Vasili Kiryienka (Caisse d'Epargne)
A few French riders / treams looked to try and bridge up but were shut down by Saxo, Caisse & Radioshack. A few unhappy Frenchmen0 -
It's only 25 km to the foot of the Laffrey - if the breakaway does not have more than a couple of minutes advantage a good opportunity for decent (French ) climbers to bridge the gap0
-
So, Lance "bosses" the French to neutralise the Bastille Day stage?
I feel more Gallic love coming Armstrong's way.

the shack and caisse eyeing the team GC in paris"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0

Since you know all about this, what exactly DID they say to each other?0 -
It's good to know Robbie Hunter is just as angry in real life as he is on Twitter. "YOU F**KING IDIOT."
Indeed.0 -

No, that can't be right. Although, RS (and CdE) were doing the same thing teams do every day, there must be some giant plot behind it.

Indeed.
Well, was it on one of the Real Peloton podcasts, where Ned said that one year Hunter was making "I'm gonna slit your throat" gestures at him from the team bus?Le Blaireau (1)0 -

Of course, he is right. C'est rien.
But it is Bastille day and the Frenchies were missing up front.
TV commentators were a bit miffed.
