Maybe I could ask for a few from Schlecky as well? I'd have enough for a full set then!0 -

Fair point by Farrand. Didn't stop him from having a dig about Nadal and Puerto a few weeks ago on Twitter:
"Watching Nadal smash his way to victory at the Paris Open makes me 'almost' feel sorry for Alejandro Valverde."
Maybe he shouldn't pass comments about Nadal until the full facts are known, rather than just gossip.0 -

That is a Tee Junction where you have to stop the vehicle and then drive off.
At times cars queue there for their turn to move off. It is just traffic oil and a sprinkling of wet, thats all, no big deal.
Oh yes about 20 yards before the Tee is a road to the right that climbs the Stockeu to Eddy Merckx.
Oil on roads more like Diesel and if you can, then remember that Shite Hole Olympics Town ATLANTA and the riders tumbling about there. Diesel with a drop of rain.
And Davey boy
Remember the World Championships in Norway and all the Tram tracks with riders falling off.
Perhaps we can now Neutralise that race also. Twas a bit unfair, methinks.

Perfect timing! Did you plan it that way on purpose?
It was just dumb luck. The date was set over a year ago, and I only realised it was a rest day when I was looking at the C+ wall chart last week!0 -

And you can add the Passage du Gois to that list!
OK, maybe it makes sense to wait and see what the riders have to say, but seems to me some riders benefitted more than others. Nobody wants to see someone get hurt or god forbid, killed, but today at the moment looks very silly.
And was that Jez Hunt driving the yellow jersey group just after the crash? Who was he working for, Hushovd or was Sastre in the group?0 -
Reckon Quick Step will really hammer it across the cobbles now as long as Chav is not too knackered. He could easily be 5+ mins in front of the GC guys by end of play.___________________

I would LOVE to see this, they've no GC to worry about so they just fully go for it0 -
Versus as usual on an advert break when it happened, but here are the aftermath scenes and some crash footage. The moto went down as well although from the few shots there it looks like a lot of riders stayed up.
Interesting that Cancellara and Hushovd were able to stay up (I assume they did, don't know for sure).

Likely better footage at 7 on ITV4.
Bruyneel saying it was like ice with riders not on their bikes crashing....

This is the hardest race in the World. It is not meant to be easy or kind.
You better tell Contador. He's the one who made the group wait for Andy Schleck.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Anyone sure results are going to be neutralised?
All standings I am seeing show otherwise. Of course, they could yet be in need of updating or the organisers may not even have made their minds up.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Is Cancellara the Peloton's shop steward now?
I can understand letting Mini-Schleck back on, I can understand waiting for Contador and Armstrong. But riding the whole thing like a procession, to the extent of yelling at people when they get in your front line of "boss riders" just seems crazy.
As little as this happens, I agree with FF's original point. The jury are never going to DQ 50 odd riders who have fallen behind as a result of a crash, once the GC boys are back, game on."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I see many of the riders were on carbon rims. I know mine are absolutely lethal for wet braking. Nothing between no brakes at all and instant wheel lockup.
i wonder how long it will be now before the UCI allow disc brakes in road racing as well as cross for safety reasons?0 -
Apart from Kloden who was up front with Cancellara as they slowed it down, was there a GC rider who didn't crash?0

Thought boardman's take was about right
well see...
it's not the giro... no mercy there"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -
So, do we think it will impact how tomorrow is ridden?
Or will the GC guys let some cobbled guys off the leash and try to keep it steady. They'll all be feeling a bit tender.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

I think it penalizes guys with good handling skillz...
it seems to me the same guys manage to stay on there bikes again and again when this stuff happens
that skill is neutralised..
ok the cobbled causeway covered in seaweed was a tad excessive but greasy roads or even roads with diesel on it?
I dunno
I'm 50/50 on this one"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

they could fake it up no problem as long as no one too threatening goes down the road a good race could be had from a layman's TV POV...
OTOH
didn't see anybody start waving white flags on the strada Bianche thou....
if some of the GC guys don't make it before the mountains tough!"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way.
