A disgrace if all those who rolled in down on the peloton get the same time.
This is the hardest race in the World. It is not meant to be easy or kind.Contador is the Greatest0 -
So next Tour around we are going to have no dicey roads thrown in?!
Isn't this course been designed to create chaos?! That is what they said, that is what they have.Contador is the Greatest0 -

What a stage! And what was that protest about...? Rain? The roads they ride on ever year? Think the route was publicised a year ago? 4 minutes ago via Echofon
Richard Moore
There were already rumours that tomorrow's stage over the pave would see some kind of "protest." I repeat: bullshit
Obviously some kind of protest, but over what? Rain? Descents? Leaves on the road? Who does Cancellara think he is? Hinault?

I say it again no grand tour has any business in these northern countries..& fuck any body who says different!!!0 -
Mind you, it has to be said, Chavanel has very nice teeth0
-
I guess the idea is that the neutralisation had a significant impact on the likes of Hushovd and McEwen being able to stay in the first peloton, and that not counting the points makes sure it does not disrupt the overall points competitition.
Chavanal a couple of minutes up in yellow doesn't disrupt the overall GC0 -
Jesus! Is Eddie Merckx auditioning for the role of Honeymonster?
He's bloody massive!0 -

Excuse me but I've had the mute on ES because of some old woman with it's ouch aars, oh dear's
Now did somebody die yesterday like Fabio Casartelli with a neutral stage the day after or is it something else.
I watched Spartacus on the front doing his team mate job of a Slow tempo while his team tried to catch up.
Frank is down yet again and Spartacus should give him lessons instead of waiting for him.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -

There were several crashes last year when the tour went to Barcelona.0 -

I started that one on page 4. Sorry.
Well I hope they don't! It will be complete rubbish if they effectively neutralise these two stages, they were put in the route to make the first week interesting and exciting weren't they? A lot of people, myself included were looking forward to these stages, so I hope there is no protest tomorrow!0 -
They won't neutralize the cobble stage, Cancellara will make sure of that.
After all, he has a great chance of winning it.0 -

There's wind on airstrips, far too risky. Best just race on turbo trainers, like the Tacx I-Fortius thing.

(from danish TV2):
"It was chaos, cars were hitting each other, at least one motorbike went down and riders were on the ground north south east and west, and hardly any of the teams knew what to to.
I only stayed on my bike because I was able to drive into the wood. I don't what happened there? Soap or oil? I have never experienced something like that.
Of course I stopped at once, but Breschel told me to stay forward."
And Frank Høj added:

Whoa, that was sketchy. I think the entire group went down....oil or something on the descent to Stavelot. We're all licking our wounds now.
Robbie Hunter is having a classic rant. Would Chuck Norris have agreed to slow down? I think not.0 -

Cool. So the riders were protesting that their DS are lousy drivers.0 -

The guy in Yellow is the Patron you say, well, well. and all the time I thought it was some guy who rode in a race in MILAN last year.
Now come on stop pulling my plonka you know who contols the UCI and therefor the ASO.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -
Would Fabian have thrown his toys out of the pram and got it neutralised if it had been a group of B Box and Euskatel riders that had gone down? I think not.
I can't believe that a 2 times winner of Paris Roubaix is complaining about a dodgy course....pathetic!"I have a lovely photo of a Camargue horse but will not post it now" (Frenchfighter - July 2013)0 -
I've never heard of so many overall contenders going down together - I think something extraordinary was bound to happen regarding 'neutralisation'. As someone pointed out, where do you draw the line? Let Armstrong & Contador back on but not the others? If 25 years of watching cycling has taught me anything, it's that everything will happen eventually, you just have to wait!0

Imagine if someone deliberately put oil or something on the route. There are sick people out there capable of such things.
Chavanel seems to have got down well enough.Contador is the Greatest0 -

Guess who is winning over in Austria. An no it isn't Griepel!Contador is the Greatest0

So - was this some sort of protest by members of the general public? Someone spreading oil on the road to deliberately cause the riders to come off? Sabotage?0

.
This road we can see on the TV will suddenly have a crowd of people across the road and the riders have to do a sharp right turn onto the Stockeu climb.
ES then went to Adverts and the next thing on view was Spartacus on the main road to Trois-Ponts, WTF is that.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -
Remember last year's Tour when Cadel tried to go on that attack from miles out? It was Cancellara who gave him and earful.Contador is the Greatest0

My understanding of it is this (although this hasn't been confirmed):
As we all know LA has never had any intention of racing into France. He masterminded the idea of crashing in today's stage, and used the same trick that he employed in the Tour of California when he needed an urgent 'out' - oil on the roads.
Unfortunately his saboteur got his imperial / metric conversions mixed up (apparently he doesn't go to Europe all too often). As a result, far too much oil was used, bringing the whole peloton down.
Quite simply - it is all Lance's fault.0
