Showers throughout the day, about 20 degrees later on.

A lot of KoM points up for grabs today, I think today's stage could actually be more interesting than tomorrow's cobble-fest given the amount of narrow climbs, crazy descents and potentially wet roads.

All these mates in the peloton. This one gives a blow by blow account of what happened to him, yesterday.

    Plus:
    Jan B: two bruised knees.
    Levi: seriously cranked wrist.
    Kloden: Down twice.

You do get more info..........well, of a certain type, from Le Shack.

    also

bdlancaster: Looks like it could be yet another day of racing in the rain. Cervelo have a pretty good record in the rain at the tour de France!

Crashes galore me thinks.. Peloton is going to be even more nervous after yesterdays crash fest

Looking forward to this: was on these roads for the Liege sportif in May.

Stunning part of the world, but somebody died that day from crashing on a descent

Could be a few showers around, with the risk of the odd heavy one in the next few hours. Doesnt look like a rerun of some of the Giro stages.

    Dry tomorrow.

Looking further ahead, it looks like getting seriously hot later in the week and into the weekend. Temperatures of 30-35C from Thursday.

heh, Live report on CN started off like this..
    12:03 CEST

Hello and welcome back to the Tour de Crash! Oops, let's make that the Tour de France. The biggest news is that we have climbs today! Six ranked climbs, all in roughly the last half of the 201 kms. It should be another exciting day today

    They've started now.

Here's Wiggo reading the road book earlier today:

Note the bracelet on his wrist, it's a Power Balance bracelet. A piece of rubber and metal, it is supposed to enhance sporting performance. If Wiggins and Sky believe this, I have some old rope and a spare bridge for sale*. I suspect he's just cashing in on his fame and will do a couple of fake promotions for the company.

Gibo used to promote some similar nonsense didn't he?

With so many mountain points today, and not many in the rest of the week, it should be brutal in the first couple of kms with half the peloton trying to be in the escape of the day.. 5 days of polka publicity for grabs
  • no, its a bikepure band and he's also wearing a watch.

I'm guessing Matt Lloyd is going for the Polka Dot Jersey today?

He managed the Green Jersey in the Giro, can he do in the Tour?

Could face some competition from Taaramae. Had wondered if he might go for a respectable GC placing or the KOM. Given he seems quite an attacking rider maybe the KOM is the thing for him this year?

no, its a bikepure band and he's also wearing a watch.

Looks like a watch and a Power Balance band to me.

They use accupuncture and oesteopaths, don't they? Perhaps mystic meg decided when Wiggins should ride the prologue?

Going to be tough for Saxobank later in the race if they try and keep the yellow as long as possible (im assuming they are on the front?). If the Schlecks get into trouble tomorrow then Cancellara would have to wait for them and could lose enough time to lose the jersey. Otherwise, its possible he could be wearing it until saturday.

It's coming down fast now, from 7 minutes at some point to 3:37 now - and they're not even half way... 111 km to go, but not to far from the first climb, and the Ardennes now

Having no GC guy and having a good record in Paris Roubaix did make me wonder about him giving it a go tomorrow. Could have been more in his favour then? I guess you take what chances you can though.

As regards not winning this season, i think the crash in LBL which left him with a fractured skull might have had something to do with it.

France tv went live 10 minutes ago. First thing they said was it is raining at the finish line.
A couple of minutes up on the fastest schedule. Yes, it must be the Tour....erm....

Wasn't Petacchi wearing one of those bracelet things yesterday as well? I didn't know what it was though.

Were there any other DNSes apart from Hayman?

Cancellara wants to 'Conquer the cobbles in yellow' so defenitely think they will ride hard today to keep it if possible.

Cumu, I agree about the accident which was pretty severe. He hadn't won before that either. I guess his time will come eventually.
