  • Glad you got a good price for it :) Was a cracking bike!

Yeah, I needed to downscale unfortunately (pretty much the exact opposite to you :( ) as I couldn't justify the cost.

I'm hoping to use some of my quarterly bonus (assuming I reach my targets) in around July to get another off the shelf bike with a bit more ooompf
The meta was just a bit sloppy for everyday riding - too bouncy on the uphill and not perfect on the DH... it was faaarrr to in-between everything for me!

Haven't ridden the boardman yet, i've been in Lancashire visiting the family over the weekend... Hoping to get some practice in on Tuesday after work at Cwmcarn I think.

Well the Pro looks like a proper specialist as said.. One way or the other and you've gone sensible and technical - I'm going to be lazy and just roll over stuff

    hi all,

hope you had a good weekend riding, how was brechfa lads?

james, don't worry mate. it'll all be worth it when the bike arrives :D

ben, i may join you tuesday, i'll let you know 8) i also saw another guy in cardiff earlier wearing an irn bru jersey

sladey: sorry i missed your message i would've met you

i rode cwmcarn VERY early this morning with my bro in law lee. it was really good apart from the fact i rode most of it with 2 gears (just changing between big ring and little ring) because my gears were jumping all over the place in any other gears, and because of this my chain got stuck as i was trying to pedal on teh singletrack bit after the concrete ramp and i got thrown over the bars at quite a speed!!! i'm hurting muchly :(

but there was 2 very hot girls in the car park setting off on a ride

hopefully we'll all be able to get out soon
    :D

Not having much luck with your gears atm eh Kev, good to hear you saw two pleasures in the car park though, that's the main thing

At least you got a ride in - more than I have in a few weeks

Hope you're not too bashed up, falling is part of riding I think :D

nah, my gears are a PITA! the broken shifter wasn't actually broken it was that the cable had stretched loads somehow, i pulled the cable through and indexed them as best i could and it was fine, now it's skipping in 90% of the gears :x

i need them indexed properly and my rear brake bled i think :?

i got a few cuts and bruises and i'm a bit sore but i'll live

Brechfa did the Raven Trail "Black" was great, loved the switching berms, fast single track, and most deff the freeride section :) but there was a fair bit of fire break roads, some of it downhill with a perfectly good forestry running alongside it, why why why do they do that.. overhaul though a nice place to be, sketchy keep you on your toes type riding, with limited grip in the trees well on the rear any-ways, front was like glue great fun :).

vids are uploading, none edited cant be asked lol

How difficult is the Raven trail technically?

I will have a go at riding anything technical uphill its the pointing downhill i struggle with. So is it all rideable for a relative novice, I rode the Gorlech and some of the berms were really steep, i didn't have a clue what i was doing. i find trails like Cwmcarn and especially the black bit of whites are about my limt so how hard was it to ride.

    Cheers

If you can do whites, then Brechfa if your next one, i would say on par with what i did of W2, but there may be some sections that will open your eyes like wide open lol, it is all roll-able, and there are chicken lines, all i can say is keep your eyes open as some of the switchback berms come up real fast and tight.

oh and watch out about 3/4 way in in some wicked single track through trees, there are 2 trees side by side quite tight, you tend to think are my bars going to fit, so you start to focus on that allot, then just as you pop though and relax, there is a skinny 4-5 inch stump right in your path. puckered my arse up lol.

freeride section, well if you want to go big believe me you can, wicked

I found the black trail at Brechfa much nicer than the red to be honest! The red was just a bit too bermy and bmxy for my liking...

I would agree that if you can ride Whites, yuo can ride the black. Just go easy, some of it leaps out at you quite quickly

I think we discussed the final descent on the Red before and how nuts it is   I just wanted to check the Raven wasn't a step up again, and that i would loook like a big giirl ( no offense  ) in front of the lads.

    Ha ha! None taken!!

I would happily ride the black again whereas I would need some serious persuasion to ride (or walk...) the red again!

I don't know if you've tried it, but we didn't rate the blue at Brechfa though... I know some people like it, but it didn't do anything for me (and if anything all seemed a little 'back to front') :?

I rode the Blue/Green wtih a local, at the end we diverted on to the Black, which was like a roller coaster, I really enjoyed it.
I didn't have any reservations about riding the black until I read a review in the MBR triail guide.
It said and I quote from Page 117 paragraph 2 " The opening climb on the Raven feels comfortable by comparison (to the Gorlech). But this only lulls you in to a false sense of security that is quickly shattered by a committed plunge down wall-of-death type switchbacks."
It just got me thinking am i really up for that. I dont mind taking a chance, a bit of danger even, but most of the time when i am on a tech downhill part on my bike it feels like I am guesting in an episode of Jackass and pain humiliation are imminent.
