    Indeed...I rode it in 2007 when out at the Giro. At the base a sign hangs over saying 'welcome to hell'.
    It has more sustained steepness than anything I have climbed, it's is just exceptionally and relentlessly steep and the thought of racing up would quicken the pulse of even the most race-weary pros I suspect. Who knows what will happen.

    A friend of mine eventually came to a complete standstill and went over sideways still clipped in...

    We pushed up most of the totally wasted domestiques , they all muttered 'grazie' under their breath....they savoured every little help.
