So, you don't think it's really worth the asking price?

nope, but thats the price they are, i never understand bikes prices.

this bike has cost £11,000 since leaving jeff's little workshop. i saved £4,000 on that price as the first owner took the big hit.

its obscene anyway you look at it.

it will keep its value to a point, second hand frames are the same price as new frames, and some folk will pay more than the asking price......dont ask me why.

a carbon stumpjumper fsr is around £5,000 in a years time that bike will lose £3000, i find those type of bikes more hard to understand......(owned a carbon fsr by the way).

Look, I'm not knocking you. And for the record I don't think Stumpjumpers, or in particular Santa-Cruz bikes are worth what they ask for either.
Is that what they cost? Of course.
Are they worth that? no way in hell.

They are worth what those who love them are willing to pay.

I love mine it, it rides much better than I could ever hope to ride it, it will out last me and I feel that it's worth every penny I spent on it.

If you can afford something you really want does it really matter how much it costs?

Worth is very different from cost.
I think i may have hit a nerve here.

    A full bike is £10,000?! Holy sh*t!

That's market value for you I guess. If someone is willing to pay that much for your product then you make hay while the sun shines.

    But....TEN GRAND!

If you can afford it though, and you really want it, well, there you go. As you say, you'll be able to sell it for pretty much what you paid for it, so enjoy it while it's yours.
    Happy trails.

yeah it turns heads and is definetly a marmite bike, i love it so do others, some hate it or just dont get it.

it gets folk talking thats for sure

for me, i love titanium bikes, i cant remember when i last had a 'normal bike', it started with a carbon fibre s works fsr, like i mentioned beforehand......i bought a mint one that was originally £5,000 new off a guy for £1500. i thought he must be mad spending that on a bike.

also wanted a Ti bike though.....had some good ones since.

after that i had a break from bikes, then got back into it in a big way this year and decided to get the bikes i really admired, some new, some retro.

the jones was one of those bikes, we'd all do it if we could really......so why not i say.

Actually it was an accidental double post. I thought the members of this forum would have been smart enough to realise that. You clearly are not.

Here's mine been test ridden by our very own Steve Worland - just before I bought it from Jeffs contact in the UK for much less than list price.

    "Verdict: very special
If you’re prepared to spend £4000 on this bike (frame and fork), it’s because you want to buy into a design approach and philosophy that’ll be seen as beautifully unique, fresh, pure and enlightened by some, and pointlessly elitist by others."

"There’s something very special going on here."

if you ever deside to sell this work of art put me on the top of the list, i've only got one kidney but it's yours, and a life time of dialasys would be a small price to pay to own a work of jones art

Just found this thread & that is one wild looking bike, wild good though - i'd love a spin on one!
Don't know why it's attracting so many detractors, although i'll bet the price has a lot to do with it - i'll never understand why some people can't accept the fact that others can & will spend considerably more than them on bikes/cars/clothes/whatever. I'll bet there are kids round the corner from most of us p!ssing themselves laughing at how we've spent fortunes (to them) on a bike when we could have bought a car instead - scale it up a notch & you've got the same principle. If anything's only ever worth what someone's prepared to pay for it, the fact you could probably detail it to death and make a profit i'd say it's a sound investment - can't think of any bike i've owned that I haven't made a loss on after a few years.
Have you thought of sticking some brooks grips on it to match the saddle btw? The rest ties in really nicely. Oh - and I think it would set it off perfectly if you dressed head to toe in Rapha whilst riding it just to provoke more outrage amongst the cool kids.

i dont like those since i found out how much they cost, its obscene.

there was a long time when i thought they were a brilliantly different bit of thinking and ive always fancied a try on one to see what they go like, i knew they were pricey but figured they were so pricey because they were so good, but 10 grand(ish) is mental money and i think jones is a cheesewand.

that said, i completely get the idea of buying something you want regardless of the price when you have the money to burn, i would never want to criticise someone and what they do with their hard eraned/stolen money so just to be clear, i am criticising Jones for being a robbing tw@, not anyone who has the money to buy something i used to think was interesting.
  • Can safely say that this is a stunning bike! When i first saw pictures i wasnt convinced, but on meeting Rich and having a go on this crazy machine i can see why its so special.
  • 8) cheers bud.
