picked this up tonight .....

december 2009 model, one of the last merlin built jones, not sure how many are in the UK, maybe another 4 or 5. think there were 75 made worldwide so not something you will see regulary.

also came with single speed cog and custom mudguards front and rear.

stopped off at evans cycles on the way home as i was desperate for a seat, was going to buy a basic charge spoon, but they had a single titanium railed one in my colour, result!

anyway heres some quick pics as i stuck the wheels on, and before i have set it up to my body.........seat isnt meant to look like that by the way!.....enjoy 8)

There are about 10 in the country, I've one of them and one of them got nicked and not shown up last year.

Jeff had just under 200 made for him by Merlin.

awesome bike there saltyman, sure, they are an aquired taste (and dont listen to jay12 - hes only an amoeba and has no taste - (only joking jay)

Awesome design and a truly unique piece. Supposedly amazing to ride, I think it was Steve Worland that rode one and highly rated it (maybe not Steve but I think it was)

Anyway, nice work and a full ride report would be spot on ;)

seen them on the jones website and they look like they would roll over anything, the bike is very responsive as it is, how long have you had yours for?

2 years now, it's built for single speeding though. I didn't enjoy it as much when it was geared, I felt I have the be extra careful as the chain kept dropping off and scratching/gouging the frame near the EBB

its called a truss fork, very rigid, willl not flex under heavy braking, so you get 100% power, nothing wasted.

very light, so very responsive and the tire clearance is huge.

thought id show these pictures on my bike with the optional fenders with custom mounts that jeff made.

ridgid enough to use off road too, and also means it can go into road mode if needed.

pics are from jeffs blog, but are of my bike.

Arrgh. spent last night lying in bed wondering how to scrabble funds to get one of these, for no other reason than just wanting one. Jeff's website makes me want one all the more!
    the bars look terrific

Must have been an insurance job then, not even a smack head would nick that :)

I like the it as a piece of industrial artwork but not so sure about it as a bike. It is certainly unique. How does the fork feel compared to a normal rigid fork ?

its different thats for sure, with the 28x2.3 tire up front its a very light turn, the H bars help here too.

very very stiff fork, so no flex at all under braking, you can do 1 finger stoppies every time if you aint carefull.

hard to describe the ride, its something you would have to try for a day to find out. its superb though.

that is stunning, trully stunnig. those jones frames are works of art, art that is not only beautiful, but also rides amazingly, and is a totaly vip club entyr card. i belive guy kesteven had one for a while... set up as a singlespeed for offroad blasing.

amzing. truly amazing, and totaly stunning.

agreed it will become a design classic for sure so much more beauty and style that most of the bikes today which IMHO have turned into garish advertising hoardings also glad to see it go into production and not stay as some of experiment or concept.

despite it having so little use in the 5 months its been since jeff sent it over to the UK, i intend to use the bike for what its made for.....to be ridden.

this will be no garage queen, its already my main rider.

jeff wants his bike ridden, hes passionate about that, so expect some mucky pics soon :D

    Nice Bike!

Can the frame be run with standard suspension forks?

Edit: Just had a look at Jeffs website!

    I'll get my coat.

    e-mail from Jeff tonight:

    Hi Richard,

It’s too bad Neil had to sell his bike. It’s a good one. There were just about 100 frames made by Merlin for me. Around 75 were Spaceframes.

I don’t know off the top of my head how many went where. Only a few were built into complete bikes by me. Most went as frame sets.

Call me sometime and we can discuss the fit, function and any questions you may have about the bike.

    Enjoy your rides.

    i know.

he wanted me to ring him last week rather than our regular e-mails, though it was 1:30pm there it was like 10:30pm here and i was ready for bed.......time difference is a killer so i prefer e-mails.

he is great though, and very passionate as you will know.

I always liked the look of these, but after having a go I could not get off it quick enough.

    Maybe it was the bars??

Also everyone I have seen has had cable disc brakes?? Am I missing something.

Nice pics, and it looks like your Exitwolfs pick up the dog sh1t just like mine

He comes to the UK quite often, he rides with a friend of a friend, both of whom have had their first Jones' returned for warranty replacement.

    Look good though.

the avid BB7 calipers had me worried when i was looking into a jones, but i have to say they are more powefull than any other brakes i have used.

2 of my down hill rigs run 8'' discs and and have new brakes and one of those is the same weight as the jones and they dont come near it stopping power wise.

it must be the way the brake force is put into use with a rigid frame, i dont know, but it works.
