New commute is 17 miles each way. And I am managing it in 1 hour 5 minutes. Saves me £4.40 and half an hour each way on PT. It also now has a few hills, so hopefully it will help me with my next sportive. Also not had a driver make a silly maneuver in about 3 weeks. Are they all in better moods because of the weather, or is it just my new route?Archway to Hayes

CiB wrote:Earlier this year my speeds had fallen off a cliff and I thought that my best days were behind me, and I'd better get used to becoming a nodder with a speed limit of ~8mph. Just noticed that my last 3 commutes in have been avg spd of 19+mph, and going home isn't much worse. Yessss!!!! The legs & lungs are back. Clear the roads.
Seriously it's a big relief. I'm officially old this year. I can cope with age, not with being slow.

Lance.
20.3 miles, 0h 58m 23s. I'm claiming that as a PB, Olympic, World & UK All-comers record from my house to sunny Bicester, until someone* beats it. And whichever way you slice it, it's not bad for a slightly lardy middle-aged commuter. So. Arms aloft. I'll go and fight off the excitable girls in the project office in a minute.
* I have, twice actually, with a 59:56 and a 56:38 but both were quite helpfully wind-assisted. This was all me, with a bit of a cross wind in places.0 -
Its Friday, I'm off work.
A package has just arrived with some Haribo and some free stuff from wiggle.
I have a new cassette and chain to fit and then a 50 miler planned for a bit later, in what i consider to be almost perfect conditions.

Rant with a silver lining:
We ask for more memory, more pairing stations, and decent monitors wor we can be more productive. None of this is authorised by finance.
Finance did however, authorise the purchase of the four 40" 3d LCD TVs we stuck on the end of the request for a laugh. We now have them in the office wired up to Sky 3d HD just in time for the Olympics, TdF, Wimbledon and Euro Championships.
One of them is situated directly above my monitor. Fun.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Belly button?
keyhole stuff is amazing, my sister in law had some a few months back, remarkable.0 -
Yep - belly button will never be the same again, but I feel right as rain, given that they were have a right good rummage like one of those grabber machines on the pier at Blackpool. No pain at all.Commute: Chadderton - Sportcity0

I was supposed to have my appendix out with keyhole surgery. I woke up with a scar about 4" long. I told the surgeon he must have a f'ing big key and he replied that I'd had the biggest appendix he'd ever seen. Apparently it was about 6" long. I said "No appenDIX!" and checked I was still intact.0

On my commute home a couple of nights ago.
It was a beautiful evening and so I decided to take the long way home (30km instead of 10). I had a profound sense of realisation just how lucky I was that my commute took me through stunningly scenic countryside that most people would be jealous of and along deserted country lanes where (generally) the few drivers you meet are considerate and friendly.
To cap it all, climbing a hill on the last couple of km, I caught up with a guy who must have been 10- 15 years younger than me, on a much newer bike and in full lycra. I must have been doing twice his speed going up the hill and I was on my 15 year old commuter bike, MTB shorts and had a rucksack on my back.0 -

To get the full effect of the TVs you'll need to wear the Joe90 specs which you'll have to take off if you look back at your monitor to do some work.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

Proof, not that it should be needed, that Finance should never be allowed to have the authority to actually approve or deny things, they should only be there to check the sums of the people who know what's actually important to the business.
That's how it works at my place. Finance wouldn't ever reject something I've approved, but they may point out that it needs to be moved to a different budget. I generally go along, to make them feel wanted ....0 -

Absolutely; in the same way, the Legal department shouldn't be there to block actions, but to ensure that they comply with the current legislation. As it is, they seem to spend their time construing narcolepsy-inducing leases, f**king up simple contracts and burning hot the same direct line as the HR dept to the firm of City Solicitors on an eye-watering level of retainer...Location: ciderspace0 -
