Plot twist! I wasn't expecting anything other than the recovery truck driver being culpable for some horrific overtake and left hook - chapeau! Did you get his details?

Yeah, got the recovery driver's details, and will probably go for a pint at some point. Nice bloke.

    Yep!
During the entire run up (of, I dunno, 8 seconds) I was petrified that the recovery truck driver was going to be an arse, but turns out he and I were too busy watching each other for idiot moves we didn't check far enough ahead for idiot moves by others.

Also just checked the stats 19 data for the junction - rash of injuries there by all accounts, and it's on the list of things to be re-built, has been for about 10 years.

This is going in Anti-rants for a very good reason ..

Best bike has been clicking every pedal stroke for a while - never quite get around to fixing it.... had a look a couple of weeks back, put some oil in the bottom bracket (usually fixes it for a while) - next morning, no joy - click's still there ...

Completely forgot about it until I went out last night - there it was - every pedal stroke - click click click ... well, as you're going up a hill you've got time to think ... and I wondered if it was the bottom bracket - it's HT2, Ultegra -been on there a few years, but the bike doesn't do huge mileage ... got home and thought - yup, got to test this ...
Popped the left hand pedal off my TT bike and swapped onto the best bike .. rode it in to work this morning ... click click click no more ! :) I know where the click's coming from yay! :)

I had similar, until after one particularly loud click it became obvious that the pedal was wonky as the left crank arm had begun to shear into two pieces, with a large crack visible.

    Warranty replacement arrives today!

Interestingly, Hampshire police have now released an OpSnap/OpCrackdown system this week under HantsSnap.

Believe the team reviewing the cases are the same though, so not really expecting any changes.

well - at least they're trying - although it's a bit telling there's no mention of close passes and it's got to be an offense, rather than just anti-social driving ....

Anyway - my Anti-Rant - 5 days, fifth day of being on my bike - only one commute granted, but I've ridden my bike (a reasonable distance) every day for 5 days - haven't done that for a while!

    They want my DoB? Why?
They don't want to know any description of the driver ... wonder why?
They want to know if I was wearing reflective clothing ... why does that matter? I don't during the day - not much point!!
Their suggestion of description includes having to take evasive action to avoid a collision ... ok, I know it happens, but most close passes on me happen at speed and any action I'd take would be too late .... so I assume they'd ignore all those ...

Come on Hampshire Police - sit up, take notice - safe transport on the roads requires MUTUAL RESPECT - stop treating cyclists as third class users ... we have MORE RIGHT to be on the roads than the motorists ...

    Not quite right (pun intended).

Cyclists have a right to be on the road. Drivers have to be licensed i.e. they don't have any right.

Just got back from a week in Cape Town and Hermanus. No cycling, but lots of nice food, beer, wine and whale watching.

I did see a lot of cyclists in and around the Cape though.

It certainly seems pretty hilly there, with quite a few nice looking climbs. I did find it a bit funny to drive round and see signs pointing to the likes of Llandudno and Croydon.

I've formally written the to the police with a bunch of issues around this new system, after using it to make 10 subimssions. While not acting on the RTI reports reported using the met's system, at least that was reliable and a lot more intuitive.

No idea if the submissions have been acted on either, will be chasing them up today (not that I've got a stuffing reference number to follow up)

Pleased to see that road rage incident end up in a prison sentence.

These types of incidents rarely end in a conviction (certainly in my instance the perpetrator got away with it) and they ought to.

Twice this week I've had drivers go to pull out on me from side roads but stop and put their hand up apologetically when they realised I was carrying enough speed to have been t-boned if they'd continued. Is it starting to sink in with people? Or have I just been lucky...

You would hope, wouldn't you, that the increase in road cycling in recent years would eventually lead to drivers realising that cyclists sometimes go at over 10mph.

Similar for me this morning: car coming the other way, overtakes tractor, clearly wasn't expecting the cyclist to be on him so fast (about 20). I was close enough as he swerved back in to see the look of surprise on his face, rapidly followed by what genuinely looked like contrition.

Happened to me on a TT last year. Driver was in her sixties at a guess. Pan flat DC course, with a tailwind, Garmin shows I was doing about 55k/h at the time - she saw me coming, looked again... Then pulled across the carriageway. I saw the look of horror on her face as she realised she'd misjudged it - luckily she stamped on the accelerator, as if she'd stopped, even though I'd already pulled out to go round the back of her I was carrying enough speed to have hit the arse end of her passenger side. As it was, I almost clipped her but managed to skim round. Absolute sh*t your pants moment.

..... Gets thread back on track again

On Saturday in possibly the last decent riding weather of the year, me, a couple of buddies and a certain smoker of bacon off this 'ere forum decided to do a' bridges of London' ride.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B2ucrsrFaiq ... ejk3s8f58m

From Hampton Court in the West to Tower Bridge in the East we crossed 24 different bridges including riding Kingston and London Bridge twice plus another couple I forget now making it 24 bridges and 28 crossings.

One bridge was closed for refurbishment and so we couldn't cross that one.

A slow average speed as despite being ably guided around there was lots of stopping for pictures, pedestrians on towpaths and steps, lots of steps.

But it was a great laugh and lots of coffee was consumed along the route as well as beers at the finish.

A superb day riding with good mates.

    Here's the inevitable video:

    One More Bridge to Cross

    Hope you like it.

The loosely thought out plan next year is to ride these in reverse but to keep going beyond Hampton Court and cross every bridge back to the source of the Thames in Oxfordcestershire.
