Fabled tailwind on the way home and a few PB's on Strava, made up for the less than average ride to work.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Got 2 tickets in the public ballot for the Lords Ashes Test (day 4 - a Saturday).

Been to a few tests before, but this will be my first Ashes. Had tickets to an Ashes test previously at the Oval, but it got rained off.

Never had much success with public ballots (feck you Surrey Ride 100) so quite chuffed. Just hoping the test makes it to Day 4!

Didn't need much of the winter kit I rode to work with for the ride home, no MAvic skullcap and only one pair of gloves. Couldn't do nothing about the layers under my jacket as I think I would have been too cold if I'd ditched the baselayer.

    How are you finding them?
I didn't know they existed. I live 5 minutes from the meetup location and 7am is a perfect meet time.

I'm also interested. I know one member via meeting him in my local off licence, and getting talking. I've also ridden with menthel once or twice.

A good bunch! We have a monthly intro ride just to meet the group and see what you think of us. ;) Next one will most likely be 24th of this month if you want to come along.

Otherwise we generally ride every Sunday unless its dangerous and have a variety of routes from flat and fast to out into the Surrey Hills. There are a variety of speeds (me being slow) and we generally try to keep together on flatter rides but in the hills will group up speed appropriately and then meet at the stop. We like coffee and cake a lot!

Ben- you can see the rides I have done with them so far on Strava.

Our club meets 8am on Sat for similar reasons however as i'm travelling up and down the motorway all week i like a lie in so join/run the later 10am ride :-)

I've been up at 6am or earlier at least one day every weekend since mid-September, not to get a ride in before spending time with Junior, but to load the car with bikes, pressure washers and endless layers of clothing to get to a cyclocross venue somewhere within a 100 mile radius of home in time for her race. This annual Autumn/Winter purgatory has now been going on for 6 years.

Only another 3 years to go (if we don't pack it in because we're fed up never having a lie-in), then she'll be racing in the afternoon, I'll be in the V50s which start an hour later, and we won't have to be there much before midday :-)

  • Thanks Menthel. I'll check the website to see when the next introductory ride pops up.

Pre-school commutes normally entail running around at home, trying to get everything sorted - then late to get jacket, shoes & lid on, then frantic "come on, pedal faster" for about 1/2 mile before putting him on the follow-me and upping the pace somewhat for the remainder of the journey ...
To be fair - he's not yet 4 and the lateness of leaving is my fault - even if he doesn't eat breakfast quickly...

So, in a bid to give us more time I sorted things a bit quicker this morning, had everything ready to roll and we headed out the door early.
He "raced" me to the picnic table - just over 1/3rd mile then I just suggested he could beat me to the next landmark, then the next and so on ... until he'd ridden to the little lump of a hill we have - it's very short, but quite steep and as it's a 90° turn you can't get a run up - fortunately he's on his new 20" bike with gears - so I've clicked down to the easiest and he gives it a good go - quick shuv up and he's at the top ... down the otherside and practically at our destination ... a little bit more encouragement and he's done it - just over 2 miles and in time too... I couldn't be more proud of him :)

My lads 7 in April and like yours has really taken to riding.
The wife, me and the boy did the Preston Guild wheel recently, it’s about 21 miles, and it’s the second time for him. He races me for the last couple of miles!

Three days off work using up holiday allocation before the end of the holiday year. I could just end the post here (but I won't).

I also edited my footage from the 'Summer in February' the other weekend when I bagged a great 130km ride down to Whitstable, Kent followed by the train back which I'm reliving by watching the vid over and over again.

I love the warm weather and dry roads.

In a similar position this month is 15.5 work days long for me, rest of the month is normal days off and holiday cause of end of financial year but if there's overtime on my day's off I'll grab it. Not been much this year.

Ok - Jacket back on - and a return to longs was in order this morning - but the addition of a bit of chain lube (to the chain) seems to have eliminated all the squeaking and groaning (only from the chain - not the rider)

Hammersmith bridge closure to vehicles makes Barnes and absolute joy to ride through. Minimal traffic and pollution, I hope the residents embrace the change that has come about by default
