The marshalls and sporadic supporters for yesterday's London to Brighton. It was intermittently gloomy or pi$$ing with rain, but they were there offering encouragement all the way through. At least us riders were moving to keep warm.

    Here you go - a cycling anti-rant

Took a very tired Little Slowbike out and about on Friday - plans went out the window - so ended up back at home with a short while to spare - suggested to LSB that we go for a bike ride to beyond pre-school stop (it's all offroad cyclepath) - rode up for just over 2 miles - not surprised as he does this trip to preschool - got to the end, turned round and rode all the way back - no stops and not slow (by his standards) - so about 4 1/2 miles done in one hit at a reasonable pace - excellent little cycle ride

Did you cross post in the Rants thread about LSB having to wait for you?
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Well - we do "Sprint" about 4 sections - he usually "wins" - even on the way back when I did get in front he still won because it was the slowest one to the table ... bah ... can't win ... sorry - should be in Rants ;)

First ride in three weeks since I came off at the end of May. Thigh muscles weren't too happy initially but soon came round to my way of thinking. Took things carefully given the damp road conditions and steered very clear of drain covers, not that they were the cause of my off.

Cheers. Shop are sending it back to manufacturer for inspection; they think it's manufacturer default.

Unfortunately a full refund is not an option as its a cycle to work bike.

Been there, done that on my original London Road frame which was out of warranty, the cause was a pothole at 25mph which gave me a snakebite PF visit. The rear wheel stayed true despite the frame failing.

260 miles in the sun yesterday - no issues with the bike or injuries, I avoided the rain three times (must have just passed through before I got to Crewe, Nottinghamand Wakefield) and managed to rescue a hedgehog near Goole (daft thing was just ambling around in the road in broad daylight... not coincidentally alongside about ten of its newly-squashed brethren...)

I sacrificed a KOM to help one once, wasn't the least bit grateful either and made it as difficult as possible to put it on the verge by the hedge.

    Yep!

Someone's suggested buying the components from the old bike back from the LBS, flogging the new unridden bike, and buying a different frameset with difference.
Think i'll try and get all the components off the old frame either way, should be a set of pretty damn cheap spares.

This one was a bit reluctant as well - when I initially put it down it turned round to head towards the road again  - in the end I put it *literally* IN the field it was headed so slowly towards

After weeks of troubleshooting with Tacx I returned my unit for repair, it arrived yesterday and this morning I received a notification from UPS a replacement or repaired unit is on its way back.

Email from Police .... they want to do a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) .. no, not on me - on the driver of the vehicle I reported for overtaking the car behind me - on double white lines ... :)
They've asked for permission to use the video to grab stills etc etc

The only slight negative is if the driver contests it and it ends up in court and I'm called as a witness ...

Blimey, excellent to see Sussex's OpCrackdown taking action like that. Still had nothing from Hampshire.

Part of me hopes the driver does contest, on the basis of punishment from a court case for a clean cut case typically being much higher than the default, although understand the concerns re witness statements.

yup - it's a first for me - and makes it worth the money spent on the camera - no, it wasn't the close pass that I had earlier (reported and letter sent), no, I wasn't immediately in danger - gave me loads of space - but that was only because there wasn't something speeding up the other way (as they usually do) - and I did have to brake to make sure he had plenty of room and he did then hold me up around the tight corner at the bottom of the hill and he did then turn off - saving himself about 2 seconds in total ...
It'll probably be a FPN - if he (although it could've been a she, can't recall) admits to it - it's only if the incident is denied that it may go to court. I've already given them permission to use the video as they see fit and that I'm happy to support them in whatever action is necessary. I think the only bit they could possibly "do" me on is riding at 40mph as we enter the 30mph limit - but as I was being overtaken at the time ......

There's no speed limit for non-motorised vehicles.

Indeed - but how would you try to discredit a prosecution witness?
"I had to go faster because the cyclist accelerated as I overtook him, we looked at his video and calculated that he was doing in excess of 40mph by the time we reached the 30mph limit sign."

Of course, that should've meant he pulled in behind me ...

I am, of course, over thinking things and you're right, there is no speed limit - and actually, I can counter his claim* by showing the point where my acceleration flatlined and was doing (according to Garmin/Strava) 30mph at the time - after which I continued my acceleration to 40mph in the wake of his vehicle.
The only other slight negative is that the numberplate in the video isn't clear.

*no - he hasn't made the claim ..... yet.

But someone could claim that it was wanton and furious cycling or whatever as the bike was doing more than 10 mph and in the way

hah - wanton and furious was earlier when I heard the tractor approaching and pushed the pace to get to somewhere easier to facilitate his overtake - then he turned off ...

Going to anti-rant this, mainly because someone was looking out, I'm in one piece. Positive Outlooks, Silver linings and all that jazz.
Heading along in a bus lane at 27mph on a 30mph stretch of road, aware that the bus lane cuts out about 100 meters ahead, , followed by a side t junction (with a narrow painted lane carried through it) and 40m later , a roundabout. 1 car ahead just passing the junction, 1 car directly alongside me, followed by another car and a recovery truck, and 3 cyclists following me but at slower speed.
The vehicle directly alongside me accelerate to overtake before the bus lane ends; 1st car passes junction and enters the roundabout.
Car 2 continues at steady speed, and is just behind me about 15 m before the bus lane ends but accelerates hard to MGIF - no queue for roundabout, presume they are going to be clear.
Get that spider sense feeling that the recovery truck is going to side swipe me as the bus lane ends, shoulder check, ahead, shoulder check, ahead, shoulder check, ahead, nervous to slow down in case the recovery truck driver thinks might is right.

Car 2, about 3m ahead of me at this point, has slammed on the brakes to allow a car that's just appeared at the T-junction to enter the road, and I watch as the flash of lights bounce of the street signs, and panic as the car from the side junction starts pulling out.
    Shout “AAAAAHHHHHH”
I don’t remember the decision process to try and filter left or right of car 2. I’d been in the centre of the bus lane, planning to take centre of the all vehicle lane.
Road recovery vehicle slams on the brakes, and starts to skid, pulls out into the oncoming lane to avoid hitting me & car 2.
Somehow, god only knows how, I make it to the right of car 2, skidding recovery vehicle behind me, and make it through. Manage to stop in the oncoming traffic lane, as does the recovery truck.

Road recovery driver gets out, stares at me in disbelief, then walks over to car 2's driver, who's got a phone in their lap, with twitter visible.

All hell breaks loose - recovery driver goes absolutely berserk. Phone physically removed from drivers' lap, thrown hard onto the tarmac, and stomped on.
