unlikely - fixed and SS are both alien concepts around here.. ;)

Not sure that's true they're great winter training aids - it's the "fakengerness" that is alien

I've not had too much of a problem climbing on my SS.

Cheddar Gorge on a medium gear is quite do-able.

seriously - an SS would be a waste of time round here...and a fixie would be down right dangerous....

Descending on a fixie scared the doo doo out of me on the one attempt I made at it. You're not wrong there.

Then again, if you're gonna ride 90 inches like LiT it shouldn't be a problem. getting up the hill in the first place however would be nigh on impossible.

(See how I brought it back on topic there?:))

EDIT Initially I thought you were referring to the Road forum, not your actual location.

Yeah, but the Gorge isn't a proper climb like we get over here  Flew up it the only time I road it although I doubt I'd get up it on the big ring now :(

EDIT SS is so bad but a fixed would be a nightmare as the sort of gears you'd need would spin out within a few metres on the descents.

What exactly does riding 90 inches entail ?
    Smarter than the average bear.
  • Does Lost_in_thought have a job or sit on BR all day?

Simple Answer: Women are far superior multi-taskers, therefore can do their job and faff about on BR, whilst still doing both to as good a standard as a man doing either one or the other :-)

I'm deeply suspicious of this 'multi-tasking' thing. Isn't it just a euphamism for 'can't concentrate'?

It's the Gear Index, She's riding the equivalent of a Penny Farthing with a 90 Inch diameter wheel.

Most Fixie/SS bikes for the road come with about a 70" gear.
The track bike I just hired at Newport Velodrome had an 82" gear.

    LiTs = Nails

    but when it goes wrong:

Holly: I just don't know where we are. There's no two ways about it: I flamingoed up!
    Rimmer: What do you mean?
Holly: It's like a cock-up, only much much bigger.

    Sorry in a RD mood.
