from what i understand, the slickrock in moab is very sticky for bike tyres but rubbish if you are a horse hence the name
there are many trails and it is told that you are able to pedal up gradients you normally carnt because of the sticky nature of the rock
there are a few trails that are marked out by actully painting lines onto the slickrock
moab is one of the must go mountain bike locations, that and whistler of course

erm i think ive watched and read to much mtb stuff

does anybody know where in the midlands or north wales you can find a decent uplift service as i fancy having a go
the idea of a days riding without the climbs has a certain appeal :D
also im looking for trails that are what is suppose is called a more xc downhill than a full on DH trail with massive gap jumps and ladder drops

forgot there had already been discussion about CYB in August. If peeps wanna do that can we have some agreement about the date? I doubt I'll be joining you for that one as 170 miles each way is a bit far on silly Welsh roads, especially as I'd have to do it there n back on the same day.

I have my motorbike course in August, so if the dates are decided I shall see if I can make it.

Would love to go back to the place that made me burn 1500 quid.

    yeah thats quite a distance
there no reason why we cant have two events in the one month why not organize another one as well, that way more people can get to more rides and see different locations

I think I might end up divorced if I tried two rides a month :(

I'm up for CYB on the 7th, though like Cheshley, thats a long way, wouldn't mind making a decent trip of it though and do Penmachno on the Friday afternoon/early evening, stay over and do CYB on Staurday.

Roo, I do believe there is an uplift service at Cwm Carn, near Cardiff, and that its more XC orientated than DH.

Hmmm.....we would probably be looking at stopping over but on the Saturday night. We won't be able to get there for the Friday.

There is a Red and Black downhill route at Cwmcarn.

they have a camp site at cwm carn so not impossible. we have thought of camping over then getting up early before everyone else starts plowing in as it's a very popular place and by 9/10 am the car park is packed.

If you're open to suggestions I'd leave the Beast and do the slightly shorter Dragons Back. They share the same good bits but the DB misses out a lot of the pointless fire-road descents

ive been looking at some of the trail descriptions and i think the dragons back is the best for us lot

the beast is a black grade trail
the dragons back is a red

now i know you carnt really compare one trail centres grades to anothers but if we go on the idea that a red should be easier than a black at the same trail centre but still a good ride, were in business

also i believe the black at cyb is a proper black with drops and such

The Beast is only really black due to the length. Most of the "good" bits are used on both trails.Word of warning straight from the off there's a bit that catches a lot of people out :D

The reds at Coed Y Brenin are trickier than the one at Llandegla, Grizedale and Whinlatter south loop....if you struggle with the first few meters of any trail apart from Yr Afon and Cyflym Coch, don't carry on, you'll get fed up with the struggling all the trail long.
Tarw is also a lot of fire road climbing, i only know Tarw and Yr Afon and Cyflym Coch

I managed all of the Beast and Dragons Back (except for the sections that were closed) for my very first time mountain biking on my hardtail.

Some of rock gardens are very rocky but it is all easily ridable I would say.
But then again I do love a bit of the hairy stuff :)

My course is 7,8,9,10,11 & 18. Don't worry about changing it all around, wouldn't be fair for all those that can make it.

I'm sure I'll get there sometime soon!
