Perhaps you simply need the Edge to be connected up to your computer at the time and then it will show you the workouts .. whereas now I am not next to my edge (sadly) and therefore cannot tell.
It's not under goals/add goals ... so where is that function?0 -
teamtalairan wrote:ah but but but sir ... in the pdf it states clearly you can create/plan workouts in advance and then store them on your edge ...!
SO I assume from that you can use the preplanned workouts that are already programmed in your 705 and ask it to set you to do your 'interval training' on monday 'hill sim' on tues' 'distance etc' weds and so on so forth. So when you get up on your bike that day it has a set task for you to to ... !
What's that go to do with Garmin Connect though?0 -

Advanced Workouts
How do I create an Advanced Workout?
Currently this feature is is not available to Garmin Connect. You will need to utilize this feature in Garmin's Training Center if you would like to create Advanced Workouts.0 -
Because it tells you (on the PDF) that via Garmin Connect (online software) you must/can pre-plan through that or Garmin training centre. Your question confuses me.0
-
-
ah that's interesting, there must be acontradiction between the pdf and that faq sheet you just posted.
I will look at training centre when i am home and hopefully that will be self explanatory as to how i can pre-schedule the workouts.
ta!0 -
I'm home and the scheduling is easy - sorry - i didnt realise how simple it would be and it was the PDF about the garmin connect that threw me ...
BRILLIANT! it just gets better ....0 -
OK - here's a Q (yes another) why if i sit still and hold the edge in my hand and press START, does the distance go up/it show mileage. I'm sat still. Surely that's not right?0

-
Ahhhhhhh - that makes me feel better! Thanks Red dragon.
BTW forgot to say, -lovely pic0 -
I know on the review for this on this site, it does say the calorie expenditure seems overinflated - how many of you would agree with this in your experience. my general rule of thumb is 100 calories for 10 mins in aerobic ...Reckon it does over inflate? (making us all over inflate!)0
-
I'm baffled - where on the edge does it tell you what your heart rate is? I can see it's paired, but i'm stuck as to where it tells me what it is.
Help?!0 -
-
Ok, talk to me like I'm a moron ... I go into settings, data fields and all i can see is the button to show me how many data fields i want. I choose '8' and it shows me Time, Speed, Distance, Time of Day, Calories, Heading, Accuaracy, Elveation.
How do i change one to show me hart rate and/or cadence0 -
Hi Teamtalairan
Use the toggle button to go down to one of the data fields, push the toggle button and it will show you a list of data options to choose from, HR will be one (including average HR)
Hope thats what you are looking for!!

Oh, THERE! Thank you so much. I know i am asking muppet questions. So many options and so many choices. THANK YOU THANK YOU!0

SO I went for a ride today .... and when I look back at History, it is there (obviously) which is great. But when i go to 'Where to?' and then look at 'Saved Rides' it says 'No saved Rides' - doesnt every ride you go on become a 'saved ride' - or is 'saved ride' a different thing altogether,
I think the difference between, rides, routes and courses confuses me.0 -
-
Ok I am with you.
But what is the difference between a ride and a course if you create both? Arent the one and the same thing?0 -
-
BLANK FACE.
I know i get the option to save it as either ... but what's the difference? Does one do something the other doesnt?0 -
OK - I have got this: "A route is generally something you plan out in advance. A course would be something you have already done, and plan to do again. For example, if you ride the same path every week, you can create a "course" for this path. To do so, simply ride the path with your Edge powered on and the timer running. When you are done, stop the timer and reset the Edge."
SO in the Training Centre can you save/look at routes - or is that only through programmes like biketoaster or mapsource if you get the dvd? and not in Training Centre. I can see courses tab, but not 'route'.0 -

Yes I'm working my way throught that, the garmin pdf, here, the garmin website, the gramin connect, garmin training centre ... hence my brain being a bit jelly like.
I can only keep apologising and saying thank you.
I am grateful for all your patience ....!!!!0 -

+1 for Franks site and his knowledge, he is a VERY helpful chap!
But your question/answers on here are helping all those reading them on the forum0 -
Thank you - that's very kind.
I think the route/course thing confused me because on biketoaster, when you create a route, it's called a 'course' ....0 -
You keep plugging away at it teamtalairan, I'm picking up heaps of info...Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0

oh I willl .... next wil be a million and one q's about the TRAINING CENTRE ....

The garmin is a little confusing (understatement).
The issue is the manual is total rubbish. No real glossary of terms and very little in the way of examples.
Frank's site really helps. However, you haveto read all of it as he , after owning an edge for some time, then changes he's mind on which function (course, Route) to use. So comparing what you knowwith his first couple of months can be a little confusing.
My take is this:
Routes: Point to point . Gives Left / right instructions but doesn't neccassary copy the contours of the road. (Example: If you are riding 10 miles to the next turn/ junction it's shown as a straight line on the Garmin despite the road meandering and changing direction. What happens is you are routed "as the crow flies" . That's fine , iv'e used it and you just keep going to the next instruction.
Courses: I like courses.. Yes you can go out on a ride and then save it as a course and call it up again and follow it... but I like to go on BikeToaster. Plot a route. ( I did this around the Lakes in the Lake District).. Down load it as a Tcx file into the garmin. Go to the start point of where you routed. (This is easily done as the Garmin guides you and shows compass point. Then ride the breadcrumb route on the screen. Flick screen and know what climbs etc are coming up.
When Routing on Bike Toaster you can add extra points in like village names...and as you ride through the village the name comes up onm the screen confirming your on course.
On Franks site he starts off as a ROUTE man. Then later on he decides COURSES are the way to. I think so too. It's just that when you start reading his blog......it may contradict what you're or others are already doing...hence more confusion!
But make no Mistake. Frank's site is the leading inspiration of getting to grips with an Edge.
So Recap: Courses are not just about riding your previous rides. They can also be for setting up new rides in unknown territory. Biketoastrer adds the turn information automatically but you can also edit in other bits of info too.
Love mine. Feel free to ask more questions. I'm no expert but have used mine enough to feel a little confident in the makeup of the thing.
RgI look at my bike and I think.....wow! you are gorgeous (Boardman Urban Pro.........)0 -

Thank you! I really appreaciate that. The course/route stuff confuses me hugely. From the above it seems to suggest routes and courses are the same thing.0
