Went to Gisburn on Sunday. It's the first time i've been and it was awesome!!!

The trails were great although the roller coaster was closed, which was a shame.

    |Still managed to get some film of us messing about and also a bit of footage of some guys on serious full sus units...

Still not sure, hopefully I'll be seeing the man responsible for it's completion on Sunday, will ask then.

Best place is Cocklett hill carpark which is where the trails start from, point A on this map or you could park at point B, the Dog and Partridge, less parking but great food and beer.

was up there saturday, will hopefully be up there with the better half this saturday, now the blue trail is properly marked, as it's the best way to get her out on a bike is gisburn. the bacon and brew van or the d&p always helps ;D

Cheers, we parked up at trhe pub and did what we thought was the entire loop. Started at post 18 and a while later arrived at number 2. This sign says <- upwards or /\ home.

We though oh well we dont want to go home so went upwards... and ended up at post 18 again. We didn;t bother doing the rest instead went on the DH section.

were you a couple? did you ask for directions jest before the boardwalk section? if so, hello again!

i can't thank the trailbuilders at gisburn enough. we did the blue run as it's my wife's 5th time out on a bike, and she loved it. it's the first time she's enjoyed it, properly anyway. so thankyou for a well thought out and rewarding blue run, so much to see and look at, especially down by the creek where the path splits and turns. i think you've helped convert her :D

You'll have to take her on the log rides next, that'll be real make or break time. Rode the first log on Sunday, bottled the corner onto the second one though. At least I didn't just ride past.

There were a couple of us... I'm not sure andy would like being called my other half!

I'm back up there tomorrow, all things being well, to attack the full loop.

I assume that we went wrong at post #2 and should have headed for "home" instead of bearing left up the hill.

i tried to be grown up and not laugh at 'taking her on the log ride' but i couldn't. ;)

i don't think she's quite ready for that yet! she's defintiely more confident now though. she's even up for sessioning the boardwalk/berm section nr cocklett. if we hadn't been on the bike for a while she might have done it, but it's at the end of a (for her) long ride.

@ homers - sorry! we bumped into a couple that did the same thing is all. unless andy is a rather bucksome lass then no, it wasn't you!

you are right, follow the home arrow and it will take you around the bottom loop.

  • Hi all, haven't been to gisburn since last year. Saw somewhere on here that hully gully was closed, is this true? Is the full route (red / black) open as I am planning going in the morning
    any help appreciated

I'm hoping the gully has been re-openned. There was about 2m of stone pitching left to be done on one of the descents. Nigel (who was doing the pitching) asked Andy (guy currently in charge) to fill the hole with gravel temporarily so the gully can be reopenned. This was on Sunday so I'm hoping it got done on Monday.

The rest is all open and is very dry and there is a diversion with a fast descent around the gully anyway so it's still worth a trip, just get there early, the car park fills up very quickly in good weather.

Hully Gully was still shut last night, we walked up it to have a nosey at the work and I think it was all resurfaced, the bottom of the last dip still looked vunerable though.,but it all was very loose on top. Sadly, it looks like people have still been riding down it even despite the several sets of fences at the top :x

Stumpyjon, I had a look at the new stuff that you've been grafting on. Well done mate (and everyone else), I can't believ how much more you've done. I take it the start of it will all be word work. When do yuo reckon taht'll be done?

(I feel guilty now taht I haven't got stuck in more often, but the new house has got in the way)

  • I agree with the above comment. riders should respect builders hardwork as we all get the benefit of it. Went up this morning and enjoyed it although can't wait for hullys to be finished as it was sorely missed.
Is there new parts to the trail? could see some boards, but didn't know if they were work in progress or open?
    keep up the good work

We're getting used to people riding stuff before it's open, even had one guy nearly ride over us when we repairing the gully

Yes we're working on new section, hopefully should be finished in another 2 or 3 dig days (probably about 2 months). It's a very tight twisty short section with some elevated log rides, boardwalk and a couple of very narrow bridges. I'm fancying calling it control freak as you really need to have some slow speed handling skills to get through it (rode it myself for the first time last weekend).

Ant, yes most of the remaining part at the start will be boardwalk, hopefully should go in fairly quickly. Next dig day is scheduled for the 9th of May. Houses can take a lot of time, I've lost the last couple of weekends to DIY.
