then the answer's no, 'cos we haven't finished building it yet.

We were hoping to have it done by February, but obviously things have been slightly delayed by the weather - so far two planned dig days have been lost, no word yet when the next one is likely to be.

Aye, well, the next scheduled dig day should be the 2nd Sunday in February. There was talk of trying to fit one in later this month to replace the one we lost on the 10th, but obviously it's all weather-permitting.

As for the downhill track, it's easy enough to spot now all the trees have been felled. Once you're on the top fire-road, instead of turning in to the big quarry to follow the Red XC route, just carry on along the fire-road until you reach the next open area on the right, where you should see a double. The dh track is off to the left of the fire-road, basically straight across from the double. Think there are warning placards attached to a couple of trees/posts at the top of it, and a pretty obvious engineered drop off the fire-road and on to the track.

i'm with you on that one r3, i was there too only the lower loop rideable.
Still 2-3 inch of snow on the forest tracks, single tracks under trees 90% rideable, forget the top loop & the dh track.
Totally sketchy but fun fun fun.

oh forgot the inch or so of ice all the way roundround
  • +1 . Not fun today. Very frustrating ended up pushing a lot of the time, not much is rideable at the moment unfortunately  Think it needs another week at least to melt, I would stay away at present.

  • Sorry to hi-jack thread, but has anyone done the Gisburn enduro (12 hour)? I'm thinking of having a go this year. Any idea how long the laps are and how technical etc.
I've just been there once and loved it. Bit worried though that when fatigue sets in after a few hours riding I might wobble of the North shore or summat :?

    Message from The Stumpmeister...

Hope you all had a good Christmas and survived the snow.

Now it's pretty much cleared we can get back to the digging (at least we can see the trails again).

We're planning a dig day for a week on Sunday, 31st of January. Start at 10 am in the usual place. We're going to continue on the new section of trail with the logs.

Martin's now planning for the Hully Gully repair day on the 14th of February (haven't been able to get the gravel lorries into the forest either), more details to follow closer to the time.

Anyone got any questions or want to let me know you're coming feel free to email me (it's always nice to know before the day I won't be the only one turning up).

    Jon

So, assuming we don't need dynamite to loosen up the gravel piles, it looks like diggers are GO!!! 8)
  • hi tony_m
re the logs section , martin the fc ranger has been busy with the chain saw over the last week or so , the second big log has had the top cut off all along its length , and a smaller lower training log has been felled and is in place nearer the start of the section , so things are still progressing , hope to see you on Sunday

Dosen't look like I'll be making this the dig day this week... but I'm ready to help on the 14th - it that with the BAD mtb'ers?

Hi Terry, glad to hear Martin's been keeping himself busy! All being well, I'll be there on the 31st for more fun in the woods. :)

It may just be a coincidence, but their website says they are off to dig there on the 14th too.
