I spoke too soon... Fedex reaslied that my company address, to where I had the package delivered, had a Fedex account and billed the VAT and fee to them! So another £15 in the end. No complaints really, though, as I had been expecting to pay it and still got a great bargain.0 -

Not exactly 'bargain' territory, but HED's UK site is offering a 15% discount on everything - making the wheels cheaper to get direct than from the usual online stores. Worth a look if you're in the market for some high-end wheels before the VAT goes up. I covet a pair of Jet 6's, but the bank, she say no...0

Hmm, was sure they had the 800. If I was being cynical I might suggest they've removed it from the site for the duration of the offer period. We'll see on monday, eh?0 -
Always the way. I've placed orders with 3 e-tailers this week. Every one of them has waited until the goodies are in my mitts and then emailed a discount offer!

The Wiggle offer is, IMO, a bit of a con. The discount is only off the 'List price', which is the arbitrary amount they put up in front of their real price. I was all ready to buy the turbo I wanted but the discount code does not knock anything off.0
-
Is the turbo you want already reduced by more than 20%?
Can you buy it cheaper elsewhere?
I'm not sure how this constitutes a 'bit of a con' but I've amended my OP to clarify the T&C
Oops Other posters have quoted the OPUp to 20% OFF orders this weekend

These vouchers will increase the discount of each item in your basket, up to a maximum discount of 15% or 20% depending on which voucher is used
Wiggle Platinum customers will therefore receive an extra 3% and 8% respectively while Gold Customers receive an extra 10% and 15% respectively
Products already with more than 20% discount will be unaffected“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
I have nothing against Wiggle. I've bought from them before and have every intention of doing so again. Probably the same Turbo I was grumbling about. What I don't like is the practice (not limited to this retailer) of offering what appear to be general discounts that, on closer inspection, are only available in very limited circumstances.
The whole issue of the 'discounted price' is a bunch of horsefeathers. Retailers charge whatever they can sell at. If a product isn't selling they can lower that price. A real discount is a lower price for one purchaser than all the other purchasers get. So just putting 'list price is £1000 - 50% off, your price £500!' is meaningless sales fluff if that's the price everybody pays. It ain't no discount. That IS the price.
And then to put giant ads saying '20% off' in giant letters, over the condition 'list price when you spend £100 or more' is pretty cheeky when almost everything in your inventory is already trading at the non-existent discount. Again, this is not limited to Wiggle, which generally has very good prices anyway. I don't mean to bash them, just having a rant at retailers in general who are very adept at making price freezes (or even rises) look like they're doing you a favour.0 -
My bank manager and I both agree that this thread should be locked or better yet deleted

I must admit, with considerable embarassment, that I originally believed the discount to be over and above the current (including sale) prices. So you are partly correct.
What Wiggle are offering here is a minimum discount of 20% if you spend > £100. Be it 20% off list or extra discount on the gold/platinum price to bring it up to 20%.
Of course it's only a good deal if their 20% off list is the best price in absolute terms in the market place.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
