Sounds like a similar spec to my Viner when I got it. The Miche stuff is utter sh1te and was replaced very quickly. Huge shifting improvement with campag chain / cassette, crankset went on winter bike and I ended up shearing the driveside crank from the chainrings - not impressive! No idea about the wheels - they were heavy and I sold them as new without riding them.

    That's a cracking price.

I wonder if the 44cm might still be too large for my ickle (~ 5'1") sister. If not I may instruct her to buy it.

I've never heard of the Miche brand though.... what's the feedback on it?

An Italian brand, who specialise in fairly cheap but OK components.

Yep. Solid if not spectacular from my understanding.

For a first road bike though then £750 for a crabon Dolan with Campag should do the job...
It'll be a huge step up from the ridiculously undersized lead piping she's on at the moment

I used to have a 44cm one of these until some b*stard nicked it - i'm 5'7" & it was pretty much spot on, the sloping TT & 44cm ST disguises the fact it has an effective 530mm TT with a 120mm-ish HT, might be a bit big for someone 5'1" - unless she has long arms - good deal though! :)

Phoned Dolan. Terry reckons that the 44 should be fine for 5'1". Think she's gonna go for it. Maybe ask if she can get a cheeky 45cm PreCursa frameset for £150 if bought at the same time. Then that's the commuter and weekend bike sorted... N+2 on the same day would be good work

Your frequent changes inspired me to go incognito. Can't really see it well enough in the picture but that guy is riding up the Stelvio Pass on a bike with no handlebars. Remarkably he has lived to a ripe old age and still rides around Padova on a bike with no handlebars every day.

Just got a Mythos frameset secondhand and it rides really nicely, that looks great for the money!

Indeed, and he wasn't slow. He brakes by putting his foot against the back wheel.
He also rode it whilst playing 4 different musical instruments in rotation, there was a guitar and an accordion and quite a large keyboard, not sure what the 4th was.
My sister and her kids see him quite often. He always answers if they say hello, they think he's great. A true eccentric.

  • Couple of things Garmin Edge 500 related, firstly:http://www.satnav-discounts.co.uk/tomtom-go/garmin-edge-x00.htm - useful comparison of prices between different sites including current discount codes for Garmin edge gps systems.

Which then leads nicely onto: http://www.probikekit.com/uk/special-offers/garmin-edge-saver/garmin-edge-500-gps-hrm-cad-cycle-computer-neutral.html £175 for Garmin 500 Edge with hrm\cadence\speed .. and in black :) This requires the use of a 10% off voucher UKNOV10

The ProBikeKit site was probably my worst buying experience yet of any e commerce site - no email confirmation of order + couldn't get into my account after I'd created it. I manually emailled them a copy of my payal order details because I wasn't sure if they knew I'd placed an order and that seemed to do the trick. So 1/10 for order processing. But they are cheap. And they did get back to me via email promptly. And the unit turned up in good time too.

So I'll let them off :D

154.90 isnt including VAT from what I can gather

Yes - that's actually correct - bit naughty of Handtec to show prices on summary pages without VAT. Apologies to Dax

Still, a colleague tried to order one of those Dolans. Dolan were trying to charge VAT twice. Worse than that, though, is that, instead of the standard £20 delivery, they wanted to charge £150 for the Highlands - WTF! I've shipped engines from Brighton for less than that - not a 10kg bike. Dolan take the prize for the most outrageous shipping charge I've ever come across especially as they are in Liverpool (from what I can make out) and Cornwall must be nearly as far as Inverness. Shocking

Why am I yet to find anywhere doing such a deal on the red/black version? What is so special about it that makes it command a higher price?! Damn you co-ordinated bike parts!

Just in case you didn't realise: the red and black one is always packaged with the "better" HRM monitor .. hence the higher price.

when i move into my own place (not rented) im getting a proper mechanics stand where you take one of the wheels out and use the quick releases. Can also use it to display my Look...

Maybe - I registered as I ordered (rather than registering and then ordering) .. strikes me that they have either a serious bug in that particular scenario (unlikely) or perhaps there was some kind of maintenance going on and I was just unlucky.

I've developed a number of eCommerce sites over the last 15 or so years so I'm not a complete numptee (well most of the time anyway)

Ah...that makes a bit more sense. I already have the 'better' HRM monitor after picking up a cheap FR60, need them to release the Edge 500 as a standalone now then I guess!
