  • Fair enough. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that lots of dosh will be saved (or lost if bargains trigger shopping) by bookmarking the German shops I mentioned.
  • Yes - this isn't Hotukdeals.com so we don't need to validate our bargains so I do think the onus is on the buyer to check the price IS actually good. I also agree that if you're a bargain-hunter, DO check the German websites as there's often significant savings to be made. Quite why Germany should have such good deals, I don't know but I know I saved about £300 on my Di2 over the best UK price I could find.

Picked up a Continental Gatorskin for £23 from LBS this morning, not quite as cheap as the £21.29 from Wiggle but a lot, lot quicker.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

A fair price, I think. Just posting here in case anyone doesn't know about the history of Karrimor. Once a great brand, now just a bargain bin generic goods rebranding tool.

The hiking boots in particular have nose dived in quality.

But like I said, that's a decent body warmer for the cash I reckon, just don't want anything thinking that Karrimor means quality any more.

Certainly agree the quality isn't as good as it used to be, but for £18 it will do the job.

Yeah I bought a "cheap" Karrimor rucksack which quite quickly fell apart... Karrimor has gone the same way as other brands like Waterford Crystal and Wedgewood. The original production facilities are gone and the products branded as Wedgewood and Waterford these days are just cheap knock off stuff from the Far East and Eastern Europe....

I've a Karrimor rucksack that is probably 10+ years old and has had a really hard time of it in my opinion - quite often stuffed to bursting point. It is still looking quite capable of lasting 10 more years - will try to have a look to see where it was made when I get home. If it was to fail now, if it wasn't for the reputation their current products has now gained I'd buy another even if 2x the price of a cheaper, alternative branded similarly sized one but not now I think. Shame.

Yup; see also Slazenger and Polaroid.

(On a related note, it was depressing seeing all the advertisments for James Bond/007 branded cr@p prior to a screening of "Skyfall" last month.)

Yeah, they ran out of funds quite quickly into the filming of Skyfall, it got mothballed for a while before they found more cash. It wasn't as bad as I feared: he was never swigging Coke from a can.

Karrimor used to give lifetime warranty before the the far east bought it up. Buying brands and creating a few years of good sale then bye-bye.
Also have a look at your Weetabix next time when you tuck in: it's not going to be the same anymore.

I'd taken the joke to be the dates; the days of the week are wrong for November 2012. R.R.P. looks to be optimistic for an obscure brand.

For Goodness Shakes are doing a free voucher for Wiggle, £5 off when you spend £35. Not huge, but if you're buying something anyway, and for the sake of a £1 drink, it might be useful. You also get entered into a prize draw thingymajig when you use the code.

    That's a cracking price.

I wonder if the 44cm might still be too large for my ickle (~ 5'1") sister. If not I may instruct her to buy it.

I've never heard of the Miche brand though.... what's the feedback on it?

Yep. Solid if not spectacular from my understanding.

For a first road bike though then £750 for a crabon Dolan with Campag should do the job...
