You are lighter than me, but heavier than them.
75kgs is not lightweight for a cyclist. 😉

I've yet to spend more than ~£50 on a pair of bib shorts over the last five years, but I'm tempted by this deal if the pad is really good for longer rides, indoors I tend to be in agony from ~1hr and outdoors from ~2hrs!

My best comfort bibs are my SIX2 SLP Luxury, which typically entend my agony threshold by up to ~50%.

My dilemma is Castelli sizing and I'm currently carrying at least 6Kg excess weight compared to my norm in recent years of ~78Kg, but I did get as lean as ~73Kg in Aug '17. I'm planning an intensive winter turbo season to at the very least drop from the current ~84Kg to under 80Kg.

Currently waist ~35.25", hips ~40.5", chest ~39"... XL? My Six2 bibs are L.

Appreciate it's very personal but the Progetto X2 has always been my go to pad for longer rides. Really worth the extra over the Castelli KISS pad IMHO.

As above order both sizes if you're unsure, Wiggle do free returns. FWIW I'm 6 feet tall, around 67kg & I usually get a Large in these, I can squeeze into a medium but prefer the large.

As for the shorts themselves I'd highly recommend them.

I literally have no idea what pads are in my bib shorts.

Pads all seem much of a muchness to me on all the bibs I've ever worn. The thing that I feel difference in is cut, shape, stitching, grippers and shoulder straps.
I've heard this said before. By lightweight cyclists.
I guess that the pad comes more into play as weight increases.
    Elbow is 7 foot 2, I doubt he’s under 80kg.

    I'm 67kg & I can 100% tell the difference.

    A big difference in fact.

Certain things you can't skimp on & bib shorts pad is one of them IMHO.
I'm currently 73kg, have been 63, and my @rse can totally tell the difference.

Maybe it makes a difference what type of saddle you ride.

Mine tend to be flat with little or zero padding.

Castelli Perfetto Ros Light from £85 - also don't forget to go through TCB, and they have an extra £2 bonus if you activate it first.

Merlin have 10-20% off a range of bikes, discount happens when you add them to basket and presumeably you can use reward points for a bit more discount (although thresholds for £5/10/20 discount vouchers have gone up to £75/150/275 and so not as good as it was, sign of the times)...

    https://www.merlincycles.com/stock-take-bike-sale-241280/?sort=price-min

Highlight I spotted was the Wilier Montegrappa Tiagra 2020, ~£702 with discount, could make a decent turbo bike at the very least.

Sensa Romagna Disc Limited Tiagra Road Bike - 2021 now has 20% discount making it £953, which is probably better deal, quoted geo a bit odd though at a quick peak for those like me with short legs (I'd need a 51cm or 54cm at a push, then something like a 12/13cm stem to give bar reach).

15-30% off a range of wheelsets.

Are Vision Team 35 Discs worth getting for a dependable "bombproof" 2Kg "semi-aero" set at ~£167?

Did anyone see and snap a set of https://www.merlincycles.com/fulcrum-racing-speed-55-db-carbon-clincher-road-wheelset-700c-197389.html that were advertised for a while last night at £171? I was tempted, but suspected the insane deal price would be spotted before dispatch! :o:D

I've just bought the rim version of those for winter use - £171.75 - £10 loyalty voucher = £161.75.

No experience of Vision wheels but for that price I thought they were worth a nudge.

The sale that Merlin have on at the moment is really good if you're in the market for some new hoops.

could make a decent turbo bike at the very least ;)

Personally, I doubt I'll ever use a rim brake bike on the road again, but no point paying a disc brake premium for a turbo bike.

No point in buying a new bike to go on the turbo come to that.
Anything mechanically sound and comfortable will do.

sorry - i'm in shock that you would a) even consider paying more than, say, £100 for a bike for a turbo, let alone £700 plus and b) that you doubt you'll ever use a rim braked bike on the road again.

    just utterly, totally bemused

any logic you care to share on both points but preferably the former?

Doesn't even need to be mechanically sound - I rebuilt my condemned carbon frame with a load of spare / second hand parts. No working brakes required. Front wheel rim dished to hell, but who cares? £700 for a turbo bike FFS...

Not reduced, but just a plain bargain - Decathlon arm warmers, not for the coldest condition, more for taking the edge off on a slightly chilly morning.

Kind of a knitted material, no silicone, but they only dropped about an inch on the upper arm in 70 minutes of riding.

    https://decathlon.co.uk/p/pre-formed-cool-weather-arm-warmers/_/R-p-304081?mc=8517191&c=YELLOW

Other colours are available, but of course Yellow is the best one ;-)

Lots of places have the Castelli Free Aero Race 4 shorts down to around £90ish, but Merlin have it down to £88, and also currently in all sizes.

    https://merlincycles.com/castelli-free-aero-race-4-bib-shorts-ss21-134942.htm

I have Progetto X2 pads in Omloop thermal bibshorts and Sorpasso 2 bibtights, but have never owned a pair of the Free Aero shorts, so am tempted I have to be honest.

Endurance 3 are £75 too, so glad I took the plunge on a pair of those when you(?) posted they were ~£69 at Wiggle in September. The pad is so comfy and I often struggle with challenging discomfort, especially on turbo rides ~50min+.

Shame Merlin isn't on topcashback these days, £2 bonus on a £5+ spend until midnight tonight.

Yep that rings a bell, was probably me

I didn't buy any then either, glad it works well for you.
Would you say the endurance 3 is slightly thicker material at all?
Not sure what encapsulates the difference between then and the free aero race 4s.

Yep shame no longer on tcb, they were for ages.

That pair of Endurance 3 are the only Castelli clothing I have, I too am struggling to see differences in the Aero Race 4, although marketting blurb suggests to me the Progetto X² Air Seamless seat pad has been improved and it mentions 8 hour rides are no bother. A quick look at the photos again suggests to me the Aero Race 4 have thinner material on the outer side of the leg, maybe?

Tempted to get one of each.
