Lots of places have the Castelli Free Aero Race 4 shorts down to around £90ish, but Merlin have it down to £88, and also currently in all sizes.

    https://merlincycles.com/castelli-free-aero-race-4-bib-shorts-ss21-134942.htm

I have Progetto X2 pads in Omloop thermal bibshorts and Sorpasso 2 bibtights, but have never owned a pair of the Free Aero shorts, so am tempted I have to be honest.

Just a note on the Free Aero shorts, they are noticeably smaller in sizing than other Castelli bib shorts presumably cos they are supposed to be aero!

I’m a large in Castelli shorts & they are quite a bit tighter than any others I have. I can still get in them & wear them comfortably but you may want to go one size up.

Yep that rings a bell, was probably me

I didn't buy any then either, glad it works well for you.
Would you say the endurance 3 is slightly thicker material at all?
Not sure what encapsulates the difference between then and the free aero race 4s.

Yep shame no longer on tcb, they were for ages.

*Edited my previous post so it makes sense and no longer mentions sorpasso bibshorts......

That pair of Endurance 3 are the only Castelli clothing I have, I too am struggling to see differences in the Aero Race 4, although marketting blurb suggests to me the Progetto X² Air Seamless seat pad has been improved and it mentions 8 hour rides are no bother. A quick look at the photos again suggests to me the Aero Race 4 have thinner material on the outer side of the leg, maybe?

Tempted to get one of each.

The Endurance & the Aero are slightly different material wise, the Aero are slightly thinner & have some “dimples” in them which obviously makes you more aero…….

That's interesting re the fit of the race aero, would you have ever used a pair of Omloops or Sorpasso bibtights, just wondered how they compared.

I had a look at the weights, and I think they were within 20g or so of each other, so material difference must be pretty minor - I tend to prefer the shorts where the leg material is a bit thicker, much as I like a thin summer short, the reality is that there are precious few opportunities to use them (for me) in this country.

I have 1 pair of bib tights with the Progetto X2 pad, I think they might be Sorpasso, I'm not too sure TBH.

Either way they are a large & fit fine.

Halfords have the Garmin Varia rear light/radar for only £125, AND you can use BC Discount on it, or you could - not classed as out and out tech it would seem.

Additionally they have decent cashback through TCB, which seems to track even if you buy with a gift card. Those of you who can buy gift cards at a discount through your workplaces might want to do so :-)

They also have the R8000 and R7000 4iiii power cranks on offer for £259.99 and £224.99, which is pretty darned cheap, especially once you factor in TCB and hopefully any gift card discounts.

  • For these pandemic times and the cycling hobby getting silly expensive, there's some good deals at https://www.merlincycles.com/black-friday-sale-89976/ , if you fancy some new gear.

    A few picks...
The Willier Montegrappa (Tiagra) is £679 and Wilier Jareen GRX is £1k.
Merlin RDA-1 Disc wheels are a bonkers ~£87 and Merlin CDR-1 Carbon Clincher Disc wheels are a tempting £400 (wish there was more info on the hubs used).
Those Castelli Endurance 3 are still £75 and Castelli Free Aero Race 4 are still £88.

Not a bargain as such, but for those of us who use Topcashback - Tredz currently have 6% cashback, and Sigma are now on there (Pretty sure that is a recent development) currently sat at a very reasonable 4.4%.

I have seen it in action, and was won over - plus the reliability/false positives from the previous ones would appear to be a thing of the past.

For a little over a ton, it's easy for me to justify for both the light and more so the radar notification element.
I'll probably add it to my existing lighting setup, so will now be running 3 on the rear, 3 on the front, and 1 in the middle :-)

  • Is £169 for https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/garmin-edge-530-performance-gps-cyclingbike-computer-ps169-delivered-at-amazon-uk-3834176 a good deal?

No good to me (although the climb profile feature looks handy in theory), I'm still using my 2017 Lezyne Super GPS which seems to go through battery quickly these days, but I bought a Lezyne Mega XL last year for ~£130 as a spare-in-waiting that I've taken on trips to unfamilar ground like my Road To Hell ride in October for its offline routing.

VERY cheap compared to most prices out there, but no touch screen, which may or may not be an issue for you.
I believe they are quite highly rated though.

My 1000 soldiers on for the time being - had to glue a replacement tab thing on the back after a specific mount started braking it off.

Cleva Vacmaster remote control fan I bought one at £90, bargain at £80, and they usually have a10% code knocking about if you search, might even get one if you are a new customer and sign up.

It's quite a directional fan, so don't expect it to cool your whole body down - it's a shame they don't sell some kind of diffuser to widen the target area.

The remote is a real boon, especially at this time of year - off, or 3 different speed settings - I use mine for upper body/face, and use a 18" floor fan for the legs.

I used to have a remote Sealey 16" pedestal fan for upper body, but it died after about 10 years, and they had stopped making the part I needed which was frustrating.

    https://cleva-uk.com/collections/blackfriday/products/vacmaster-cardio54-fan

In my humble opinion this pic might be a tad generous with where the air will reach, but arguably the further away you put it the wider the field will be, but also the weaker it will be - I don't have a ton of scope in my garage, so it's fairly close (Probably about 6" in front of my front wheel), but also very powerful as a result.

Delighted to hear it @combatclaret, you're very welcome.
My mate ordered Thursday mid afternoon, received it Friday afternoon, and was similarly blown away by it, if it fits your noggin, it really is a class helmet imho.

250ml Muc off chamois cream - I've tried a few, this is the best for me.
Used to be available cheapish from Halfords, not any more though, and Sigma currently have it reduced from £25 to only £10, plus 4.4% cashback through TCB makes it an awesome deal - order 3 for free postage.

Morvelo have a sale on, and are offering a free pair of socks (Up until December 6th I think) with any order over £20.

Pick of the bunch for me, especially as I know some people were lamenting the cost of base layers, is their excellent mesh short sleeve variant, reduced to £21 from £35 - with the added 'free' £10 worth of socks (6 colours I think) it makes it £11 delivered :-)

    https://morvelo.com/elysium.search?search=base+layer&pageNumber=1&facetFilters=morvelo_GBP_price:%5B10+TO+25%5D

No prizes for guessing which one I opted for :D

    They also have free returns.

Only just noticed, when checking out, and subsequently googling, that they are now part of the hut group - I know some people have bad things to say about them, but personally my dealings have all been perfectly fine.

  • Hard to know what is a bike bargain in these crazy times, but I had an email from Halfords earlier to say the Boardman SLR 8.9 was back in stock. My local store in Hedge End has the small available to collect next week.

    https://www.halfords.com/bikes/road-bikes/boardman-slr-8.9-disc-mens-road-bike-2021---s-m-l-xl-frames-365622.html

Surprisingly heavy at 9.4Kg in the marketing blurb, heavy wheels?

Small has 378mm reach and 546mm stack, comes with a 90mm stem, C-T of 485mm and a 350mm seat post.

It's certainly uninspiring (for me) to look at, I thought it had been taken in black and white for a second :D

Looks like all sizes could be at my local store within a week - cheapest way to get your hands on a groupset currently and in a timely fashion?

I like the dropped stays, but as you say it is pretty weighty - decent set of wheels and you are into 2k+ territory.
    I'm sure they will sell.

Top tube a touch too long for me, and the 170 cranks on both the small and medium perhaps a tad unusual.

If you could use BC discount on it, and are able to buy discounted gift cards, and go through top cash back, it would bring it down to something like £1290, which IS a good deal in the current market I would say.
