Is that with a mind to find the best pair, or pair of pairs, and return tuther ones for a refund?
Yeah.
I've got spades for hands, and many don't fit well, especially the "thicker" ones, and my hands get hot very quickly if they can't breathe.
The Ex Pro gel's are a consideration at autumn riding, my current full finger lidl gloves are 3 years old, lovely, but beginning to get a little thread bare and have lost most of their windproofness.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

Decided (after about a year's deliberation) that I've spent long enough riding around in cheap glasses and I want a pair of Oakleys. I know what model/lens I want; what's the cheapest (legitimate) place to get them?
Not interested in knock-offs, or any supply chain that's likely to invalidate the warranty...Pannier, 120rpm.0 -
Depends day to day. Ottica.net is pretty cheap. Where has offers, vouchers, etc.0

I find SunGod frustrating. No way to try them on beforehand as nobody stocks them and no returns allowed at all as they are effectively 'custom' made. Not worth the risk in my opinion.0 -

In addition to Wiggle\CRC (BC Discount applies) I would suggest checking Igero, Merlin, Mantel and also Evans - if you have BC discount.
A few years ago I bagged two stunning deals from a place in Spain (Bluenty), and one in France (Mr Velo IIRC) but those were in the days of decent exchange rates, so I highly doubt they would still be competitive.
Was unaware of the no returns policy from Sungod.Felt F70 05 (Turbo)

Same with custom Oakley. Quite happy to send you one of my pairs to try on when I'm back from holiday if you're worried about the fit.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Yes but at least with Oakley I could find somewhere that stocked that frame type. Presumably the custom bit is just matching of different colour frame/lens etc but there are 'stock' versions you can try?
Thanks for the offer to try - if I was truly interested I might take you up on it but I went with other brands in the end and dont really need more glasses right now...! I got some Tifosi in the end which I couldnt try with the photochromic lenses beforehand but I could train the plain ones to make sure the frame fit and felt comfortable, then order what I wanted online.
I really think Sungod should have either a stock version of their glasses which has returns allowed or send out frames for a refundable deposit for people to try, even if they didnt have lenses in. I am not the first potential customer that passed them by because of the no-returns policy.0 -
I get that. I'll ask them but, they are custom. Yes, they could take them all back apart again etc but that would leave them with stock that they cannot use.
I have to say, they're easily as good as Oakley in every respect. Have a look on twitter, some of those are on my recommendation, most are not.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

That's why I'm going with Oakleys. Spent last week at a cycling event and tried on loads of different friends' glasses, so I know exactly what I'm ordering.
@bender - since it sounds like you have some sort of connection with Sungod - their "naked eye vs Sungod lens" comparison seems to have the "naked eye" bit deliberately blurred, which I think is a bit misleading. I'm sure their lenses do a great job of enhancing contrast, reducing brightness etc, but I doubt their non-prescription lenses bring blurry things into focus.
Thanks for the suggestions all - winner for a set of photochromic Jawbreakers is ACycles via bikesy, with bonus 5% TopCashback. Runner-up is Mantel, which I hadn't heard of before.Pannier, 120rpm.0 -
Its not about quality - its about whether the shape fits the shape of yer noggin/face. I have seen lots of things which look great but are too narrow for my face, or dont sit well on my nose etc.
If they just did one 'non-custom' version of each frame shape with options they preselected based on the most popular then they would be able to take returns and resell them without taking them apart. the 'non-custom' version would also be able to be sold a bit cheaper and possibly bring in more custom too. And if you liked them alot you might follow up with another purchase of the custom ones.0 -
I'll email them and put that suggestion to them.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I have not AP, but as I feel the cold, have further reduced my insulation, and read reviews on here that said they were not as snug, decided not to complicate matters.

Fair enough - unlike you, I run hot so they suit me better in many circumstances. I can see that if you run cold the opposite would be the case though.
I havent seen anyone say they are not as snug - the fit is identical to me, in fact if anything they may be just a tiny fraction of a smige more snug.0 -

LOL, shows how tired I am today after not getting to sleep until ~0100 after my first decent power training ride in weeks around this time last night, took me ages to wind down as it always does on such an evening ride... Cheers for the heads up, i've just grabbed a pair. The aldi ones from last year have survived 1 season, i don't think they'll survive another, so some "good quality" ones in the bag gives me a little extra comfort.
Was it the Rafale or the super prestige ones you went for? Be interested to hear what you make of them.
Umm, 4 pairs. Rafale 2, Super Prestige, Ex Pro Gel, and Proof.
Went with the rafale 2 and proofs in the end.
The rafale 2 really took my fancy, simple Roubaix style windproof back and a thin layer of padding unders, can see them being more of a late autumn rather than deep winter glove. Very nice feel to them, but not waterproof, but they felt like they have a strong water resistance. Time will tell.
I didn't like the prestige, the convertable lobsters got in my way, and when folded up into the back of the glove they lefft a sore spot on the back.
The proofs were lovely straight on, felt like a second skin, and almost no bulk to them, very different to the cheap aldi winter gloves I normally ride in which feet insulation through bulk.
The gels just weren't a good fit, and felt too similar a temp range to the rafalesIntent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.
