    https://www.decathlon.co.uk/elops-520-classic-bike-burgundy-id_8378494.html

Comes with mudguards, dynamo lightset and front/rear pannier rack.

Just £160... For a 19Kg BSO!

May be wrong, but I kinda like that.

    big_4fad7c58-624c-4a22-bc55-06d5e754bda5.jpg

Always got a soft spot for a workman like shopping\town bike.

That does look like the most sat up position I have ever seen though........

    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2

  • I have to admit, as much as the weight is eye-opening, it looks a very practical town bike. If it had hydraulic brakes and wasn't a 6-speed cassette, it might have been worth looking into.

You do know there is a green frame option, too? ;)

Silly question time... What is that spring between the top of the down tube and the fork crown all about? Assistance to return to travelling in a straight line?

On a custom tourer you see devices that maintain the wheel in a forward position when the front rack is loaded. Or some such function. It's about preventing the bars swinging around and hitting you or the downtube when loaded into guess. Not sure how effective that one would be, if that's what it's about.

BTW how light could you get that bike with a few judicious upgrades? Anyone with too much money fancy buying this bso and trying to make a half decent bike out of it as a challenge / experiment?

    Missed the green option!
Randomly the Green one is £249.99, the Other one is reduced from £229 :?
Missed the fact it is 6 speed as well, makes it less appealing.

My Kona Minute has the same spring, and it's invaluable on that bike, as it has a twin legged kickstand, so if it did not have that, the wheel would go to one side, and the bike would be down - no good when you have a small person on the back!
    Minute11.jpg

TBF, the Kona Minute, now that I have replaced the shocking mech discs with some £40 Hydraulic Shimano ones, is one hell of a bike -that effectively cot me £400 - proper brakes included.
Some kind soul on here, maybe even you NO (?) alerted me to it many moons ago now.

Still hanker after a full Ute - they don't make the Minute anymore which is a bit sad I think.

*The pic above is not mine, but I will soon be converting it ot have a seat not dissimilar to that, and the little set of 'stoker' bars such as they are.

Hmm - giving me ideas now ...

Not that I want an upright bike - but I could do similar conversion on my CX to carry LittleSB to pre-school then carry on to work ... we do have a kiddy seat, but don't really want to lug that 18 miles more than needed!

    :
Surely town bikes need to have an enclosed chain and hub gears to be practical?

Ooh, good shout. Quite good discounts on the outgoing AW17 stuff now the 18 gear is out.

I've been hankering after an Alpha ROS jacket...

I like the Idro, but want some colour - waiting for the Gore fluro one to appear in a sale.

That's nothing. Quite a lot of people ride this style of bike around where I live, and it's not uncommon to see people riding around with the handlebars at shoulder level!

Lol, now you mention it, I did see a chap riding one here, who was pretty much standing up, if that makes sense :-)

My kid is approaching the max weight for hamax seat, and I don't want to use a trailer bike in London. That one looks much more robust - any idea on the weight limit?

I know there is lots of love for the Elite Direto and Tacx Neo on this forum, but CRC are selling the Cycleops Hammer for £700 this week, which becomes £630 with BC discount. Which would be very tempting if I didn't already have a Direto...

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/cycl ... prod152297

Also the DHB Dorica MTB shoes for £28 would also be tempting if they had Black in my size:

If you buy a PX Full Monty frame and forks the right way you can save yourself £125. A Full Monty frameset is £350 but if you buy the frame and forks seperately on the same order it costs £225 :D
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Not entirely sure if this is a bargain, but Merlin have a sale on their hydraulic brakes.

@redvee For some odd reason, buying Full Monty frame and forks separately has been cheaper than the frameset for months! Does the frameset maybe throw in a headset?

Forgive me if this is a daft question but I'm not very clued up on discs in general - would there be any complications in taking my mechanical 105 shifters and brakes off my CAADX and replacing them with those RS505s that have 48% off?

    TIA...

It depends on your caadx, if it's 11speed 105 disc now, the new parts should fit fine. If you have cantilever brakes now and the frame doesn't have mounting points for discs it's not going to work. If you have 10speed 105 now or some other setup you might need to change rear mech, cassette/chain and worst case wheels as well.

Also, if it is disk, it needs to be the right kind - you pay a premium for the post mount options.

No mention of a headset and not paying £50 for one from Planet X when one can be had for £13 from Wiggle.

It's 11 speed yes, only two years old. Replaced the crappy Promax Renders with Spyres but just bought the missus a bargain 2017 Avail with hydraulic Ultegra which stops on a sixpence so I'm now looking out for hydro options for my CAADX...

@Timothy W: cheers, even I know the difference between post mount and flat mount  luckily Merlin appear to have plenty of the former, just need to get the right hose length...

Be careful it's not US/Eu brake setup.

I probably received the same email as you and was looking through them, but noticed the ones I was after were setup for US/Eu - ie right lever rear brake, left lever front brake.

Excellent spot. Was about to remove my Crud Racer Mark2s for summer, now I don't need to worry about never being able to get them working right again as I can just fit the new and improved ones later in the year!

A bit niche and geographically specific, but in the B1866 store (the Brooks store) in Covent Garden, London they're discounting all their clothing by 30%. Seems they're going to stop selling clothes and concentrate on saddles, bags and other accessories. They've got a few PedalEd jerseys left.
