This is true, but the Alpha (Jersey) is a lovely bit of kit, one of my all time favourite items (especially for less than £80) - it just works for me really well, and it's like a faithful and loyal friend, but not one I need to take for walks, or pick up poo in a bag for.Daniel B wrote:meanredspider wrote:Pinno wrote:It's only a bargain if you need it!

There's also a £5 code to knock it down to £110, and then 3.15% cashback through TCP takes it down to less than £107 - not too shabby at all.
A proper bargain, if only they had one in Luna Grey in my size. They dont, so never mind. I'm planning to use my Potenza powerfleece jersey as a mid layer when it would be cold enough to wear the Alpha jacket, probably with my Pave waterproof as the outershell if needed. How does the Fiandre Extreme jacket compare with say the Alpa or if you have one, the Espresso, apart form being waterproof?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

I'll confirm when it arrives, but have tried a few on before and would say it's slightly thicker overall, especially the arms. It also has a thin but insulating waffle lining (actually similar /or same as used in the inner portion of the Alpha jacket) so, hopefully it'll be a touch warmer. That said I've gone for the short sleeve version with arm warmers for a little more flexibility than the full jacket, so we'll see. Otherwise it's the waterproofing that's the key difference I think. Plus my Alpha jersey has white arms (got it on a killer discount due to older colourway), but as a consequence doesn't get worn that much on muddy rides. Im hoping to use the Fiande for those....
Don't have an Espresso but a Mortirolo, and I don't find that waterproof. Its also a looser fit than the Fiandre Extremes I've tried on in the past.Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -

Thanks L2R.
So it's here, and will hopefully ride in it tomorrow morning. Certainly more substantial material than the Alpha jersey, and the internal waffle lining also appears on the front part of the arm warmers, as well as all over the inside of the jacket. Fit is close (large in this, compared with medium in the Alpha). Had previously tried the Fiandre Extreme in medium and was definitely too tight. This large is actually a similar fit to the Alpha jersey in medium. I'm thinking the short sleeve Sportful will also be a more versatile replacement for my old Gabba jacket, with better waterproofing.
....also concluded I have too many jackets, but I've wanted one of these for ages. :oops:Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -

It doesn't specify in words, but some photos of the jacket suggest at least some colours can be converted into a gillet.
If they are the same design as the springtime helmets, they are a good fit for oval heads with a flat top, I was all set to buy one until they have no hi-vis yellow in large.
Are Lidl jumping on the tubeless sealant bandwagon? http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Non-Food-Offer ... 5497&ar=12================

How big are you? I found the Alpha Jacket in Medium too tight, especially around the shoulders. I am 5'9" (with heels). I bought an Espresso in Medium and it's a perfect fit. Is it stretchy at all?seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

I'm 5'8, 37.5" chest, but probably now 34" waist. Unfortunately not as lean as i was last year :? My Alpha jersey is close fitting but not really tight, my Mortirolo softshell is definately a looser fit though. Fit-wise, the Sportful is certainly closer to the Alpha jersey. Think I saw CRC doing the Fiandre Extreme long sleeve at a good price, might even have been in their clearance section with an extra 10% off. Maybe worth trying and returning if unsuitable? EDIT: just saw you said Alpha jacket. I also tried the Alpha jacket in medium and found it much tighter than my Alpha jersey. This Fiandre Extreme is similar in fit to the Alpha jacket, so the relative sizes are comparable (i.e. large Alpha jacket = large Fiandre Extreme). Id also say the Fiandre Extreme isn't as stretchy as the Alpha jersey or a Gabba. There is some stretch, but not loads...Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -

So, X-One allround are £22.50 or two for £20 each. 10% takes another £2.75 off, oddly. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Needed a budget MTB shoe for commuting and use on my winter bike.
After finding many bargains at CRC and Wiggle - then out of stock in my size - I ordered these.
Really please for £35 - sure theres no ratchet or other refinements - the picture makes them look more chunky than they are

Ideal for dark winter nights, no reflective bands on ankles needed as you've got two silver orbs spinning at ~80rpm for the light to reflect off.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Really chuffed I posted the link on here. Jesus wept.0

Decent commuter shoes for the money - and yes, being silver and visible is a good thing.
The muddy fox shoes at sports direct are similarly cheap and cheerful.
Always worth having two sets of cycling shoes you don't mind getting wet - means you never have to put on wet shoes....0 -
