I like the look of Force 2010 more than Red 2009 - they just look prettier to me. I can use the £350 difference to buy a new seat post & bars. I already have a nice saddle, wheels & stem & pedals. Is there anything else I need to buy? Does a groupset include a bottom bracket?

Wiggle just emailed to say it's ready for dispatch. 8)

With groupset - just make sure to order the correct length cranks, the cassette you want (they have different gearing combos) and make sure you get the compact and not the standard double! May also need to specify an English Bottom Bracket - but it's probably standard.

Oh - and make sure your frame has a front mech hanger (braze-on) or you will need to get an adapter - or a front mech with the clamp built in!

    Lots to remember!

I have no idea about the front mech - looked on litespeed website and wiggle but can't seem to see anything that seems relevant.

My shopping basket so far is this:
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/campagnol ... upset.html - crank length they sell is the one I want
    http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/mountain- ... tpost.html - or
    http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/mountain- ... tpost.html
both listed as mountain bike seat posts - this is the seat post that litespeed put on the complete bike that they sell.
    http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/road-bike ... -bars.html
again seems a good reduction and is model up from the one that Litespeed issue with their complete bike.

Merlin don't have the cassette so I've ordered off wiggle the 11-28t.

About ready to buy but would appreciate if anyone has time to look at the above and give an opinion.
    Thanks :-)

just called bike shop and they asked if the headset is included in the frame fork. I don't see any mention of it on wiggle so I'm guessing not. Any recommendations on that - would any go with my frame? (don't mind spending a bit if it's worth it)

Sorry NapD - this thread was supposed to be about your bike.

Your frameset should come with a Chris King Headset, so it already has the best on the market!!

Your groupset doesn't include cables, but the shop building the bike can provide those.

And as you've ordered a second cassette off Wiggle - you can always sell the one you get with the groupset.

    Otherwise - excellent choices!

(And I don't think Alex minds about the thread hijack as he's had his moment in the sun now) :)

Looking at the photos, it looks like the frame doesn't have a mech hanger - so you'll need to get an adapter. Basically a little clamp that wraps around the frame to hang the mech on. Only problem is.... I don't know the size of the tubing!! (It's either going to be 31 or 35mm - probably 35).

    Something like this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/SRAM_ ... 360043960/

Perhaps Alex can help as he has a Litespeed?

Post will be 31.6mm and the Band on for the front mech will need to be 34.9/35mm

    from the Wiggle description:
    Seat Tube:
The seat tube is ovalized in shape and wraps the bottom bracket. this wrap lies beneath down tube surface area, and increase in power transfer by creating a wider base for torque to be distributed. Power transfer is commonly lost when there is too much side to side flex in the bottom bracket. This allows for compatibility with all 35mm front derailleurs, whilst offering levels, of BB stiffness to titanium bike manufacturers.

Not sure if that helps...

    Thanks Tom & Hopper,
I bought my post 31.6 so that's ok. So I need to get a 34.9mm/35mm band - same as Colin posted? shop may stock these or best to buy one anyway just to be sure.

    This forum is brilliant!

Front mech clamps are hard to find. I ordered the one you want from Wiggle a while back - it wasn't in stock - and by mistake they ended up sending me a whole new Sram Red front mech with the band attached (retail price of £110). Not bad for an £8 purchase!

You want something like this: http://www.cyclesportsuk.co.uk/product_ ... ts_id=6300

This thread was more about failing to resist temptation and for buying things where diminishing returns have come in to play big time.

The thread is going in exactly the direction it should!

    :o

Karen, my Siena has a standard clamp on 34.9mm front mech.

Can't wait to see the Icon, what colour front end did you go for?

Karen, I have a spare Sram Red band on Front Mech actually! PM Me if interested.

    Alex - you got PM.

the front end of my icon is white. It was all they had left but I would have chosen that colour anyway.

I've been lying in bed wondering if I should have gone for Red over Force. I did like the look of Force though and from the little I've read about it, Force 2010 does seem to have borrowed much from Red. Once it's arrived and it's fitted, I'm sure I'll be really happy with what I've chosen.

    May look something like this

Although I'm not going for white tape or white saddle. Done that before and it ended up looking grey and 'orrible quite quickly.

Stick with the white, Karen, just pay a little more attention to them when cleaning
I have Force, which is very good. Like you, once I'd specced the bike, I did wonder if I should have chose Red  The main difference is the ceramic bearings on the Red groupset.
I still fight with this issue, but the Force groupset has been great, so far.

Honestly - Red is SO similar to Force that you won't know the difference. Only real visual diff - is the chainrings. And you can even buy those if you want!

As for white tape, Fizik Microtex is the only white tape I've ever used that actually STAYS white and you can clean.

Frame arrived about 30 minutes ago - it comes with a clamp for the front deraillieur so that's all sorted. Dan, you were right - it has the Chris King headset too.
I'm a bit disappointed to find two chips of pain missing from the fork. Only tiny, mouse dropping size, and I know I'll put my own dents into it sooner or later, but I'm a bit annoyed that it's not perfect.
    Photo on here http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rNatWPK15Vw/S ... 000194.JPG
I've sent a picture to wiggle - I hope they can send me another fork (I know that it was the last frame of my size so no chance of that being replaced).

I'm also reassured about the Force - someone from Merlin contacted me and I feel I've made the right choice.

Got to say, the frame is light as anything.

If both the chips were on the inside I could live with it but the one on the outside would bug me, especially as its a white fork(white is such a sod of a colour to touch in as well)

Yep, got to agree... I'd have contacted Wiggle, too.
I hope you get the forks sorted, even though it is only cosmetic, that was not a cheap frameset

Karen, you have to have white saddle and tape!

Fizik Microtex tape wipes clean with a baby wipe, even oil stains etc.

Plus, you've made the right choice with Force, not least because the white graphics will go better!

I wouldn't stand for a damaged fork. Not on a frame that expensive.

And yeah - a white saddle is a must also. They don't get dirty. I only ride the white these days! 8)

well, I already bought the white tape about 2 seconds after your recommendation Colin but I'm sticking with black saddle for now. I had a selle italia white saddle and it was destroyed - grey like old knickers! I'll see what the black looks like and then if it's crap, *maybe* I'll change it to white.
I could get that old white saddle out and see if the restorative powers of babywipes can do anything for it :)

No word yet from Wiggle but I guess they'll be off until Monday now. The paintwork on the fork wasn't packaged up so there was a good chance that it was going to get damaged!

You may need some Cif if it's ground in muck...
