It could be that hardest climb. At least it rewards you with -Wedgy- . God you have to have some strong legs to build up climbing speed through those pesky roots.

i'd prefer leith only a mile and abit compared to the 8miles to peaslake, means i can leave later and get a semi lay in. one of the tower car parks or somewhere else?

We've often gone for parking in Coldharbour by the pub, but there's very little parking there.

Or do what we've done before setting off from Dorking, though not sure of the route. Last time I think that was a big 35 mile mission taking in Ranmore across to Peaslake, Pitch/Holmbury, Leith and back to Dorking. Half killed me! :D

Or start from Wescott, maybe up Rockery Drive off the A25 up the path that formerly was a great stepped descent but no longer is :(, and down Wolvens Lane.

A lot of climbing though. Easier from Coldharbour for me :D

Ok for Leith Hill carpark, 10am
But which car park do you mean?
The only one I know there is the one DK was talking about at the Plough.

There are 2 others right at the foot of the tower. if you are coming down wotton lane from dorking. turn in to hollow lane this will become leith hill road.

At some point you will pass the quarry on your left where kids do jumps, further down on your left there will be a large carpark , kind of sandy with a wooden frame at the entry.
dont go too fast its easy to miss with all bushes in the area.
and this is right at the foot of leith hill tower.

its basically not far opposite the path that we take to link leith with holmbury.

good point oposite the entrance, other side of the street, there are a few car parking spots where there is no height limit.

    see you all there tomorow

Yay, I can get out tommorow :D

Good road ride today, 34 miles with an average speed of 17.7 Mph. I was also dubbed limpet cause the guy I was riding with couldn't shake me off. Bit embarassing really, his 5k custom Stork, on the drops powering away, while I pootle along a metre or two behind, with my trusty rear rack, tracksuit bottoms and creaky SPD's

Yeah I saw them - have done that once when I first got this car - very noisy and not a little embarrassing. Obviously not great for the bikes as well.

But the price of his his bike-my bike=4600ish, Therefore that cancels out the age difference.

I was known to make a big journey all the way to SWales only to realise at Afan, I've forgot my saddle-seatpost. Plaisir and Helter showed up at Cwmcarn without helmets too!

D'oh! We missed you Stan. Could have got a helmet in Dorking or maybe the shop in Peaslake and could have waited or met you in Peaslake as it was on the way. They'd probably have rented out a smelly old one too :D. Ah well.

Was a great day. Great weather (if a little cold if standing still) leading to stunning views. Really good pace with not too much endless climbing, although think we pushed it a bit far going up Pitch just to do Wedgie (even though it was a right laugh) and ending on climb to Holmbury and Leith.

7 hours out there! Okay a few stops, but without Popstar our stops were shorter ;)
  • So glad it didn't keep raining, made it past leith hill tower little hill on the fire road up and had to stop because a convoy of 4x4s came through, which killed my legs... once i got past coldhabour though the full downhill fireroad to a small semi techy single track was fun cept for the fallen tree at the end.

Great ride, way longer than expected but I've gotten a slightly better idea of what to do with the shock. I also need to do Wedgy in one whole run next time.

I heard that most improved rider of the day was DKenny! WTH was that all about?
Keeping updates on November trip on Facebook in order not to litter these fine forums.

Just to compensate my absence from trails found this Video. Not bad, want to make something similar with DKenny as a main rider.

34 miles at 17.7mph? My god! I'll never be fit enough to ride with you lot! Please tell me this was on a road bike! Alternatively a 32 mile downhill would be ok too :)

Relax Dubcat it was a road bike. We normally average about 1.7mph offroad. On a good day.

Guys, can you tell me if I just did something a bit dumb so I can correct it by cancelling my order if needed?

I own a 2010 rockhopper sl. I have not had it long and I love riding it. I don't know any better having never ridden a full suss bike or a better quality ht or in fact any other bike for 20 years. Since I bought the bike though i had a nagging feeling about my forks because I read some bad reviews. I thought to myself though that i should just ride my bike until the forks break and then I can upgrade them.

Well tonight I bought a Reba sl 2010 fork on a whim. I feel a bit bad now cos there is nothing wrong with my dart 3's. They are not broken and they bounce fine when i go over stuff. Was I stupid to buy the reba fork? Also' i know the rockhopper is not exactly a trick bike and is in fact a bit of a beginner bike. Am I being stupid upgrading the rockhopper at all? Would I be better off just riding it in to the ground and then buuing a better bike?
