    Hope you are well.

Top ride at weekend and good to meet those that were new.
Thanks for all of your thanks ( bit of a mouthful that one :D )

I am about this weekend not sure what I will do yet. What are the general plans for the SH area ? More than up for doing pitch and some of Holmbury.

Hello lads this is as clear as swinley mud to me  ,
Are we going to afan on sunday or saturday.? If we leave at 8am we should be there for 10:30 three hours riding whites and the last downhill from sky line cake, coffee we should be back home for half five latest( :) ).

08.00 leave might be a bit late, went down last thursday and there are road works on both m25 and m4 which slowed us down. Ok week day but we left at 06.30 and did not get on trails until 11.00 ( plus stopped for fat boy fry up for half and hour :D )
Also last real weekend for people to go away before schools back if you are having a 2 week holiday and allot of people going away that weekend ready for the bank holiday the following week, so i suspect that the traffic will be shi£.

Afan not really on this weekend. Thel33ter is only being dropped off around 8 and probably picked up around 5 is, so taking off the best part of 6 hours travelling, that doesn't leave much riding time.

Can pick me up early and mum doesn't mind picking me up late or having me dropped off.

Plus the route from Woking goes through Bagshot.

Yeah, from London area it's about 3 hours to Afan. Leaving at 7 maybe for a 10 start, but then there is also the diversion some people seem to get lost in ;) (unless it's finished now).

And yeah, bank holiday traffic is always a nightmare and going that direction you are hitting both Wales and South West traffic. Often messy around Bristol and the M4/M5 junction.

Chances are I might sneak an SH ride in at the weekend but as Sunday seems likely for Wales, I'm probably out for that.

Richard - BTW, you had a chance to ride the SC Butcher at all? If so, any thoughts?

Last time I drove to Glyncowrg took me 3.5hours to drive door to door. That was a lil faster than 70mph non stop without any breaks on motorway. Suggest better times to depart for SWales are around 6-6.30, throw inn another 30min faffing about in carpark with bikes and there are more than 4hours door to door of travelling.

Diversion is still in place, so no pink clouds about fast traveling around.

For general group rides, Whites will take 1 hour to climb with 3 breaks thrown in between for sip of water. Obviously another hour to descent. Break at Glyncowrg, those in rush or feeling unfit can either enjoy drinking more beers or drive back home. The true Sunday warriors would go for last sections of Skyline to finish off the day.

@Cooldad, I left home at 6.30 and came back 16.00, all was nonstop driving / riding. Obviously I had a break at Glyncowrg to clean me bike, and have an apple. It's possible to make it, at least I have experienced it. After that you will sleep well. So will Thel33ter.

I've done Rhossili Bay in the Gower quite a few times (Rhossili, SA3 1PP).. Very recently with a 5.45am Saturday kick off from Reading to get a surf in, a bacon roll and still get back for friends bar-b at 4pm. Driving into Wales that early is a dream if the weather holds (always used to see plenty of big FS rigs sitting on top of cars wondering where they were goin..)

Afan is totally doable early, in fact I be interested if I werent heading to New Forest on Sun.

    Have a good-un!

  • I maybe up for Afan on Sunday.

Will need to get day pass from the mrs but will see.

What time will we meet ? I will leave for 06.30 and as long as I can get a shower at the centre before i return i am not that bothered about return time ( as off on the Monday )

Hmm, forecast for today seems to be getting worse. Think I'll be doing a bit of bike maintenance instead ready for Afan. Maybe I should even clean it after last weekend :D

Supposed to be raining but still isn't. It's going to be one of those days I think. The instant I get out the heavens will open though.

    Yep, looks that way!

Afan however - Sat: Good, Sun: Good, Mon: Good. :D

I'm guessing a place like that drains off pretty well too given the rain they're getting this week.

I would have to pull out of SWales Sunday ride unfortunately, shame. My work has screwed me up. They bloody changed my days off to Mon-Tue instead. Arghh.

Even then, most of you will have the bestest time of your riding this Sunday nevertheless ! Just to cheer myself up, I still will hit SWales this Monday whatever the weather to share your joy.

Hi - just wanted to introduce myself :) I'm a new rider (first bike since i was about 12ísh lol) and rather unfit. The mid life crisis has kicked in and I plan to get myself in to good shape so I can join you on trails in the Surrey Hills. God knows how long that will take but I'm up for the challenge!

I live in Horley by the way which according to google maps is a 10 mile ride from Box Hill - it's right next to Gatwick Airport.

    Cheers,

As far as I can see, it's a sin not to ride for you Dubcat. I wouldn't call MTB a midlife crisis, or you could explain yourself to Thel33ter. It's a new path in your life really, the better one. Cornish pasties and BigMacs will be abandoned. Haribos and Champagne will pave themselve into your new diet.
