Keeps the chain on :) So basically the mech will handle the top bit and then it's a roller and tensioner for the bottom. Cuts slap a bit too

It ll make sense at the end. And if there was a chain device it wouldnt have been jumping all over the place and got where it was. And end up with your cranks jammed.. lucky chain did nt snap.

    :D
Ah, I see why you went for one now :D

Have to say mine does jump all over when thrashing it. Was doing it a fair bit in Wales.

You sorted the noise coming from the chain device? Didn't notice it last time you were out.
  • Yeah fixed it, needed to modify its position and the height of the top roller.

I hate when left without gears due to chain slap/slip think need that magic thingy too. No matter what gear did I put up front middle/higher cog but it did slow me down or kill my flow on trails. Hope to fix it somehow.

Another +1 for chain device thingies, they work great, and stop chainslap a lot

I reduced my ground clearance with the bash, but then I didn't have much choice with my budget of £5, of which I spent £3.50

@Popstar, Not sure how much you use the big ring, but if you can live without it, or get a 36t middle, get one of these. The ICSG 05 mount one slides right over the BB cups and bolts onto the frame.

I'm sure I'll be out tomorrow wherever.
  • Hi.
I would love to join you lots on your Saturday/Sunday morning excursion in SH but as I am a divorced father I do not get much passes over the weekends as they are reserved for my boy
However, I normally ride a fair bit during the week as I have very irregular hours.
I would like to start exploring your area of play (I mostly ride Swinley Forest as I live on the doorstep)
As I would mostly ride solo most of the time (still have hope to join you lots once in a while), I was wondering is any of you record his trips on a gps and would be able to post some of the best to me (GPSX format if at all possible else I will figure a way around)
I could work on trail and errors but it would really help
    thx in advance

Best thing is to come along and be shown the routes as it's hard to work them out from GPS tracks.

Feel free to browse through my tracks though: http://bit.ly/db7Cp8

Might have to add me as a friend to see some of them as I don't make them all public, only the less contentious tracks.

Not sure you can download them though from there. PM me if you're interested in any and I believe I can extract GPSX formats from the phone.

@Popstar - Try the MTB Britain forums for Swinley group rides. More XC pace oriented some of those.

Anyway. Watching Harry Potter today, spotted most of the Swinley bits. Some I'm not sure about but the big chase scene was pure Swinley. Sure I sure a bit of singletrack covered up in there :D

Great ride today, very tiring though. A few photos, some sessioning, and plenty of Popstar related crashes

Also learnt three things today, Onza Porcs are awesome in the snow, Sealskinz Thermals work, and mud, slime and a brakeless Popstar makes for much hilarity.

And surely a little Popstar will be a Popstarlet?

    @ Buckaroo - These ones http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Clearance ... ock_94.htm

Expensive for what they are, but boy do they work.

We averaged 10 miles in 2 hours actual riding time, not including the 3ish hours of stops, so a toddler would have kept up no problem

The thermal ones with merino linings. I was wearing thin trainers with mesh tops and feet stayed dry and toasty warm. Amazing.
