They're not. BBox will be Pro Continental next season
At that level, a piece of paper is just a piece of paper.0 -
maybe, so why not just have a homogenised generic race bike then? I like Ernesto's philisophy, history, business acumen etc. It works and he has not sold out. I am bias, have owned lots of bikes but Colnago, De Rosa, Viners and Italian steed are my favs. I like the heritage, branding et al.Colnago C60 SRAM eTap, Colnago C40, Milani 107E, BMC Pro Machine, Trek Madone, Viner Gladius,
Bizango 29er0 -
Ash, good info on Time. I was thinking purely of the bikes but it is true they have a good standing in other markets.
By the way, I like the way people are talking about Colnago being a small, delightful, 'homemade' Italian business, not bending to commercialisation and staying true to socialist attitudes. This is not the truth and also, there are quite a few Italian manufacturers who many of you have never heard of, or at least only of one or two, that are far more true to these ideals. If I had the inclination to spend 5 grand on a bike, Colango or Time wouldn't be my first choice.Contador is the Greatest0 -

I was talking about htem being smaller than Trek or Giant, which they most certainly are.
Plus is it possible, or even desirable, to run a business on "socialist attitudes"?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

So, you'd probably buy some over-priced Cervelo, Scott, Giant or Specialized lovingly crafted in a big shed in Taiwan?Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Monty are you talking to me?!
I wouldn't be seen dead on a Trek, Felt, Spec, Giant, Scott or any other of those type of brands.
As I said in my previous email, I would prefer one of the tiny maufacturers bikes who only sell a handful of units in comparison.
By the way, this link is quite good to understand where some of these 'Italian' steeds come from:

So what you're saying FF is that you're a bike snob? Good, so am I.
Mine's a Paduano - bet you have to google that one!0 -

Here are a few bikes I like (any excuse to dip into my 1500 photos of bikes!).
And if you are going to opt for a Colnago, then at least make sure it isn't off the peg:

Can I take a guess? Bianchi?
I ride a Giant so I guess I'm damned for all eternity!
Let's close our eyes and see what happens0 -
the fact that you ride a Giant wont damn you for all eternity. But having cheap garden furniture like that and a clear case of Crabgrass in your garden will make you the talk of the neighbourhood, and not in a good way.0

This Giant will set you back $12000 or thereabouts. I pity the people who buy this as they have no sense:

My Trek is handmade in the USA. It's not one of the ones made in China or Taiwan.
There are relatively few Madone 6.9's out there.0 -

What bike do you have FF?Gasping - but somehow still alive !0

I've got a Condor and a Giant for what it's worth.
And a Trek mountain bike. Which is really quite good.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Ah, clicked on the link, FF being silly again...
It's been a while, but glad things are back to normal.0 -
Serious question!! Why the cloak and dagger?
You have no problem slagging off loads of brands of bike, so it's only fair to ask what bike you have.
You are the one being childish by not answering a simple and honest question.0 -

I always remember hearing guys back in the day saying that once they got the new C40 that it would be the last bike they ever buy. total horse shite, they are a nice machine, probably over priced, the reality is that the Trek's, Giants offer much better value for money with no compromise of quality as the Italian stables.
my italian loafers look far better than my taiwanese trainers.
Oh and Colin Lewis rides a C40. But hey you all know more than him.+++++++++++++++++++++
we are the proud, the few, Descendents.

You think you're damned?? I ride a steel Gios with nary a bit of carbon fiber on it.

I've got a Look 585 dust collector. Young kids mean I'm not riding it as much as I did.
Where does that put me ? Up or down there with ASNG????
PS. It's a fine steed.0
