  • Got my magicshine yesterday after a month wait, looks good and works. After reading this forum went to Maplins yesterday lunchtime to get a plug adaptor and asked if they had anything to replace the charger - was told by the guy in there that they didn't because it was "specialist 8.5V". Didn't look on the shelves myself, just took his word for it.

always a danger in maplins....my experience is that the majority of folk who work there know everything.....except they don't

  • Yeh, did cross my mind, I was on lunch so didn't have time to trawl thru' the isles. Worth a look on their website I suppose.
  • Hi Guys

Please find link below to MagicShine Instructions: -

I have just ordered a MagicShine off Ebay from the US £70.00 inc P&P.
Reason I ordered this one was that it has 5 modes instead of the normal (i think) 2.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

Is the charger problem an issue with all of them?

Am I correct by saying that the charger doesnt know when the batteries are charged which is where the problem is?
The batteries on the one I bought from ebay are protected so would this matter?

    Many Thanks

    right !!!

    good news!

went to maplins to get a charger, turns out the fact we have 240 and the charger is 110 doesnt matter. on the back of the charger it says voltage from 110 to 240 so a standard plug adaptor from dx is fine.

maplins converter was 20 quid!! as was the charger but it was 9 v but he daid it would make little difference.

so i asked to try it. while i was there i asked him to get the volt meter on it.

    power coming from the charger!!

    power from the battery!!

so ive left my light plugged in but not switched on ( cos it gets mad hot) so the green light is on over night

i was waiting for the light on the light to turn red so i knew it readed charging, but i got board and tried it in the charger and hey presto the charger light went red!!!

so im guessing in my case that the battery only registers if the charge in the battery is getting low.

so try running your batterys down then charge..

oh and dx said cos its been less than 30 days of purcase send it back and we'll replace it, but its fine !!!!

    YYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!! :P :P :P
  • As above - ordered mine from ebay on sunday 1/11/09 and received it today (6/11/09).

    How good is that.

Would def recommend the ebay seller

  • BlackSpur, i'll let you know when i receive mine as i've ordered both of them.

Unfortunately they were showing as packaging yesterday morning, but today they were both showing as 'processing - contact us for updates', whatever the hell that means.

I think the one with the headmount is actually the newer one.

    Hi,

I have ordered one of these lights and an adapter for the charger.

I received the adapter a few days ago but the status of the light has said 'Ready' for about 10 days.

Just wondering if anyone who has previously ordered one knows what this means?

DX have not yet replied to my query sent a few days ago.

    Cheers

Ordered a plug adaptor and the $80 bar-mount variant of this light. Does anyone know how long the batteries take to charge?

Comes almost fully charged but takes 4.5 hours to fully charge according to the instructions, mine has never taken that long though.
  • I've also got one of these magicshine lights on order and getting pretty impatient for its arrival.

Noddy question but can the supplied battery charger just be plugged into a UK socket via a simple plug adapter or will I need a voltage converter?

    I ordered mine on 28/10.

today 13/11 it still shows Processing - Contact us for updates, however there is now a tracking number with the shipment date of 12/11!

Hopefully it is on its way to a boat! I might still get the beast before christmas!

Mine took 4 weeks in total to arrive

But they seen to be busier now so I guess delays should be expected

If I ordered again I would use geomangear in the states - the small premium on this very cheap light would be worth it for a more direct delivery route.

both my orders were last updated on 05/11/09. one of them does have a tracking number, but that was the tracking number for the plug adaptor i'd also ordered. yeah, thats right, they sent a 90p adaptor by registered post

I contacted DX to find out what 'Ready' meant on my order status. They replied:
    Dear customer,

Apologise for the long delay and inconvenience caused to you!
We checked that your order kept being out of stock before probablely because of the unstable market. But please don't worry we will ship your order out as soon as it is restored.

Thanks a lot for your understanding and patience!

With any other question, please feel free to contact us, we will always be here to help you!

    Best regard!

Ah, that explains it then !
