Just spent a very enjoyable hour cleaning and regreasing the winter bike. Would be a lot easier on my ageing back with a work stand though. Is it worth spending the cash on something like a Park Tool PCS 10 or will the Decathlon or Edinburgh Co-op stands do the job?FCN 3 / 40

This is well worth the money. I got it for slightly less than that, but I'd definitely still recommend it at that price.Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0 -
Cheers - that's the one on my short list. 70 quid seems fine to me.FCN 3 / 40

Finally fitted fiddly SKS mudguards and a rack. Geeky commuter bike is born.0

Riding in this morning...
*rattle, rattle, rattle*
What the hell is that?
*rattle, rattle, rattle*
Got off to check, bounced the front wheel, nothing. Did the same to the back, *rattle, rattle, rattle* - looked closer and my mudguard mount had sheared off. Bugger. Luckily the LBS had one at lunchtime, their last one, that they'd "salvaged" off another bike.

The Park PCS-9 is currently £64 on Amazon, normally around £80.Boardman CX Team0 -
Washed the mtb. Turns out my memory serves me correct, it is white. It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.0

Successfully tensioned the chain on my SS. Correctly aligned rear wheel and replaced worn nut. I'm getting to like this bike fettling lark.0

Changed the CX into a flat barred version;-
• Swapped Drops for a flat bar and cut short
• Changed mini “V”s for full “V”s
• Added XT shifters and plumbed cables with front on LH side
• Removed front mech, as it prevented mudguards from being fitted
• Fitted full mudguards
• Swapped rear mech; DA for Tiagra, as I want the DA for a spring newbuild
• Swapped wheels around and put Top Contact 700x37 in place of the 700x25
Still fairly quick, enough to keep up and overtake a couple of roadies last night, at which point they started to RLJ. Not having the small front ring was a bit of a pain this morning on a climb but a bit of MTFU and it was dealt with. The front shifters will also take a bit of getting used to, as it’s a case of moving the brake lever up and down to shift and not a shifter pod that I’ve been used to on the MTB but it feels good.
Looking forward to building the roadbike up in the Spring though!0 -
Just put a set of Durano Plus 26 x 1.35s on. Everyone seems to say they're a pig to fit, but they popped on without much of a fight. Hopefully their much vaunted puncture protection will last longer than the Gatorskins they replace. Also some Kool Stop dual compounds. Not just because I thought they looked cool, either.0

After 1000 miles or so on the 'dale without issue, I noticed the rear hub starting to get a little noisey, so a full strip, check & re-grease of the rear hub was done last night. Bloody hate cone hubs, they have no place on a quality bike.2012 Cannondale Synapse0

It's a reason I stay away from shimano wheels, all the major problems I have had with bikes were from cup and cone wheels.0 -
Finally sorted my front mech issues on the TCX...
It had been failing to shift for a couple of weeks, turns out the rear mech was gunked up and wasn't keeping the chained tensioned! Spray and scrub of muc-off and some wet lube, equals happy front shifting.
I almost feel bad for swearing at my front mech :roll:0 -
After Tuesday's tumble and what I thought was a lucky escape with minimal superficial damage it turned out that the rear mech now has a nasty gouge along its rear edge, and the hanger was bent. I discovered this when I went for a short test ride last night ahead of today's commute and found it jumping in the lower gears.
Cue half an hour in the garage to tidy the damage up a bit and flatten the hangar. Seems to have worked; gears are fine again. The shiny new look is a thing of the past now though.0 -
Having built 66 major's bike a couple of weekends ago, we went out on it last weekend to find that the Centaur front shifter wouldn't shift back up onto the big ring. Got it home, put it on the stand, played around and within 10 mins the shifter was dead*. Arse. the perils of buying from ebay.
So, new Chorus shifters from ebay**. Last night: bar tape off. Pull the cables out. Old shifter off. New shifter on. Cables fed back through. Same on the right hand side. Re index front a rear mechs. Bar tape back on.
Works now.
Hurrah.
*Any suggestion that the fact that I have initially cabled the rear mech to this shifter and then tried to make it work for about an hour would be wholly wrong and misplaced. Yessiree.

Snapped mine off about a month ago, and since then I haven't bothered fixing it, no doubt much to the annoyance of anybody cycling within a mile radius of my bike
Still not fixed the BB - suspect it's going to fall apart soon...0 -
My BB is driving me mental, although i think it might be a pedal issue rather than the BB that is making the annoying clicking noise, Even so BB will be coming out tomorrow as the EPO is at work and i can do it inside rather than out in the cold!

Crank arm appears to be hitting the chain stays when I'm honking up steep climbs, that's a new one. The cranks are installed to the right tourqe with no play.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Lubed the chain on the SS and realised on the way home that the pedal/cleat contact points need the same.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I removed all the crappy grease (actually it was quite gritty) from the headset on the madone on Thursday before sorting it out and reapplying where necessary. I think one of the sealed units has had it thoughWhat do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?0

Ditto. Pretty sure it's BB-related on mine but it's intermittent and difficult to diagnose exactly. I've got a Shimano BB86 press-fit BB which means a trip to the LBS and £££ to get it replaced - can't remove/reseat without destroying the bearings and seems to need a special tool plus hammer to remove/refit."Mummy Mummy, when will I grow up?"

lunchtime fettle;-
New Chain
New Cassette
Added new Front mech to the mix, giving me both front rings again.
Appears that I cut the chain a little short though, so might have to add a link or just not use the big ring with the 27T which probably makes more sense!0
