Looks like it was made from a PCI blanking plate.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

That's what I usually scrounge but this was from the front of the PC case where I added another HDD I think. Mk2 now has a SFN at the bottom for the bolt to screw into.

Just stripped the heavy groupset from my Carrera, in rediness for a completely new 2300 groupo ( i know I know) however I cannot remove the pedals from the cranks, any tips?

If not anyone got any SPD - SL pedals that they want to get rid off?

  • Stripped off the rear mech, removed the hanger, then straightened it with the careful and gentle application of a 4lb club hammer and a some protective wood strip while holding it in the bench vice. It had about 1mm curve in it from my off a couple of weeks back. Stripped mech down and straightened jockey cage by the same method until the jockey wheel boss faces were parallel again (as measured with a straight edge). Refitted, readjusted the mech, job done, no more chain in spokes when going for the big cog!

Regreased and adjusted the cups and cones in the front wheel of my cxp22 rims as I have put them on because I have what looks like a small crack and the beginning of a mark at the wear indicator on my front aksium, the cxp22's will do till I figure out what is happening at work and if I need a bike I can lock up outside or not. If so it's N+1 time a langster will do fine for it.

Replaced cranks, rings, rear cassette and chain, tuned it all up and it's running real nice. I can climb without the chain jumping, snapping, slipping again and my legs are cursing me for it.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Finally (after a year) put a coat of clear acrylic on my MTB which I re-sprayed last summer. Once again I was amazed by how fast you can strip an MTB to the frame. Took 25 minutes including photographing all the cable runs so I put it back together right. Wish I'd photographed the headset as I disassembled it but I'm sure it's back OK, it's smooth anyway.

    Might actually ride it now.

Oh, and I think I might have cured my commuter from going kercreaky which would stop if I free wheeled for a second. The rear hub was stiff, could hardly turn it. A bit of oil poured in sorted it. Now turns smoothly in the freehub. Hope that was the problem.

Built up the Kona Jake again, and again using donor parts. Not test ridden it yet, but I have a bad feeling the BB and pedals will, between them, wake any sleeping children in my street.

Not yet fitted the front mech cable, though.

Refitted the guards as the wet arse I got on sat night wasn't fun and it took ages to clean my bike (it's normally spotless) and fitted a new spec 105 chain.

A bulk fettle of the inner tubes that leak. Rather than just repair them and leave till I need them, I filled the bath to make sure they're airtight.

  • had the bike in LBS whilst I was away and had new rear 105 mech fitted, new bar tape and back wheel trued and hopefully got rid of the annoying creak in my pedals.
Sorry its not me it's the bike ;o)

Last night I put a new chain on to replace the one I put on the night before and cut too short.

I attempted to put some stainless steel guards on but found they were too big so went to bed in a grump.

On the way to work this morning I stopped at various points and tightened the rear calliper that I'd left loosely in its boss, lifted the rear SKS guard off the wheel and indexed my mech.

    Lots.
Replaced a mech, cables and repaired various bits on an old MTB for a mate. Fixed a click on another mates new Boardman. Fixed my sister's car. Replaced the bottom bracket on the Jake, cleaned and re-greased the headset and was generally nice to it. Tidies up a bit, put hooks up to hange 3 bicycles.
Reminded myself that I cannot be trusted near springy or stretchy things when in the cave. Nice cut on the chin, no stitches this time though.

Had to reset the front RoadRacer guard after having a toe overlap moment when stopped at a zebra crossing. Trying to pull away with the guard folded double between crown and tyre wasn't easy.

Despite being able to hold a house together, re-bonding the sole of my mtb shoe seems beyond "Forget Nails". Darn it.

I've had to put the trampolene on top of it to see if it will bond.

Replaced gear cables (snapped inside lever). That's enough for this year.

Chanelged the rim tape on the front wheel. I'm beginning to think that the pish poor stuff Strada put in has cost me four or five tubes without me realising.

I was spraying the frame for the boys new frankenbike (christened Count Bikeula) with him this evening and whilst I was going over a few of the awkward bits he disappeared. I could hear girls giggling down the road, stuck my head round the corner and he's chatting to a girl that lives down the road and her friends. He comes back a few minutes later and he's pulled. He's been invited to a party by one of them. Never happens to me  .
Anyway, hope to get the bike finished over the next few days. I'll post pictures when it's done.

Found a colleague fiddling with his Giant Hybrid thing round the back of the bike sheds.

Problem was chain rubbing on front mech. Adjusted it, so he could use the whole cassette on the middle ring. The limit screw for the big ring was way to far out, so on the big ring it rubbed on the low gear half of the cassette. Explained how to fix that, and would have fixed it, but, like most hybrid/triple owners, he only uses the middle ring.

Anyway, he knows how to adjust front & rear mechs and brakes now.

But WTF is a casual cyclist doing with a 48T big ring ?? [On a big-wheel bicycle]. These bikes should be sold with no more than a 44/42 x 12 top gear. 42-32-22x13-30 would be much better.

Removed the bar tape and rear brake cavilling from the weekender. Will put it back together tonight, didn't want too much excitement for one evening.

Also, I assembled a wheel. It's not very round.

Going to dismantle it and start again this evening. I was excited and rushed it. Not the first time.

Rebuilt the wheel I'd previously built. Seems ok but it's no easy.

Stripped all the cables off the weekender and then realised I didn't have any gear cables.

Changed the cassette on the commuter and accidentally popped the freehub off losing one of the pawl springs in the process.

Patched the commuter up and opened a couple of bottles of wine whilst placing urgent orders at CRC.

  • An hour and a half to put two new Veloflex tyres on last night .... They best be worth the bother..
  • Stripped down and cleaned every single part on both bikes ready for the big move. 4 hours of pure bliss.

I'm really annoyed by this. I have so many jobs that need to be done, as well as seemingly endless fettling on my bikes and others, that I have had to resign myself that I'm not going to manage to build my own wheels before they are needed so I have ordered a set.
I did finish painting the boys new bike and start assembling it over the weekend. Hope to finish it tonight.
  • Replaced stock Bontrager tyres on Trek 1.1 with 2 x Vittoria Rubino Pro's...
