Bike 1: new cables, new outers, new bar tape. New chain, broke the guide pin, so another new chain. New cassette. Re mount saddle (this requires fingers that no human has). New brake pads all round. Re-index front and rear mechs. Cleaned the frame and all the bits that didn't go straight into the bin.

Not it looks far too nice to ride.
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

Bought a new bike for the Mrs to ride to the station. Stripped and re-greased the bottom bracket and front wheel bearings. Oiled the chain and put some oil into the hub gears through a lovely little oil port with a flip top lid.

Then rode it down to Ham Common for a picnic. The beer bottles in the basket rattled quite a lot but didn't break. I actually rather like it.

Had to work this weekend. Saw the cleaner coming down the road and stopped him to have a chat. Noticed he had the breaks on and was still going. So told him bring the bike into the workshop and I will have a look at the breaks.

Well that was the start. The wheels moved about both bearing were loos. So took the front wheels off, wheel bearing were finish the ball had flats on. The back wheel was a lot better. He had a old wheel that he kept from a another bike for the tyre, the bearing were ok on that wheel. Well both bearing greased and wheel on. So I could fix the breaks know. Well his is very happy he say's he got a new bike.

I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Fitted a replacement SRAM Rival rear shifter, gear cable, front brake cable. Fitted new bar tape and generally fettled the entire gear train to get it running perfectly.

Fitted a new chain and a new cassette (11-28 replacing 11-25) in anticipation of needing it on Acte 1 of the Etape this Sunday. 152km with 4,900m of ascent. Eeek....

Wiggle box arrived yesterday so some monumental levels of fettling (disappeared into the workshop with a case of biere deLuxe at seven and did not emerge till one a.m.) Cockpit set up on my Dad's bike with new bars, grips and levers. New cables fitted fore and aft and both sets of calipers stripped to nut and bolt, polished and re-assembled. Seatpost cleaned and polished (steel and rust pitted, but an odd size so for the moment it will have to stay - the chrome is mostly good though so it's hard to see). Brooksesque Peugeot saddle saved - support plates de-rusted and then black hammerited, leather polished on top and sucked up almost half a pint of leather food from underneath - now actually leather rather than thick parchment.

    Takes deep breath....

Wheels trued and front dropouts enlarged by 0.9mm to accept the slightly fatter modern axles (would have liked to have used the wingnut axles from the original bike but no go, wrong diameter so old stock DuraAce QRs). Mechs cleaned and degreased ready to be mounted.

Oh yes, fitted some Koolstop salmons to the CX.

Lots to do still, and plenty of beer in the fridge! Tonight is another night :-D

Decathlon do a seatpost in old Peugeot size. I had to get one for out '70s folder. I think it's 23.4mm. Not bad for a cheapy post, mine was missing the shims although I didn't need them.

Swapped out chainset on the PX Ti for a new Ultegra. Then tried to fit the old PX chainset to the commute bike but couldn't find my pedal spanner to shift the suck pedal on the drive side of the old commute chainset. very frustrating, I looked everywhere. Allen key from the other side was just rounding off the bolt :(

Anyway had to commute in on the Ti this morning whaich was nice but I hate leaving it locked up :( . Might need to see Mr Evans for a new set of M520s this lunchtime, grrrr.

Yesterday afternoon in an preparatory effort for an evening ride, I cleaned my cassette, front and rear mech and chain. Now it's shiny and clean, shifting like a dream, but I the heavy rain at about 8pm called off the ride.

Went in this AM, set a PB from door to door, but nearly went under a bus :? due to some over enthusiastic out-of-the-seat peddling.

washed my rims in the hope of getting rid of the squeaky brakes.

replaced the chain on the Dawes (probably VERY premature but it had developed a stiff link after I neglected it badly and only a couple of weeks to lejog and that other thread got me thinking my 'wait till it starts slipping' maintenance schedule probably needs to be shelved) and cleaned the drivetrain

Removed the cranks on the Boardman (dont really have a good excuse except they were filthy and I wanted to see how that BB30 stuff fits together*)

practiced this wheel truing lark by truing the, only very slightly out, rear of the Boardman (which is currently substituting as a rear on the dawes) before I try to replace the spokes and fix the rear from the dawes - jeez that sounds confusing even to me and I wrote it :?

removed a good drive side spoke and a good non-drive spoke from the fubarred wheel to measure for replacements

that'll do for now - just in time for tdf coverage starting

*UBER simple for any that want to know - one bolt at the non drive side and it all slips apart into the 2 cranks leaving some sealed cartridge bearings in the bb shell

    aaarrrhhhhhh

Now I find out that RS10 wheels need a 1mm shim with a 10 speed cassette, WHY doesnt it say that on the enormous multi language instruction sheet

But it does explain the chain wobble in some gears

Knocked up a bracket for my Magicshine rear light for the clip on my saddle bag.
1x P Clip, some plastic sheet and an M3 bolt. Does need a postie's 'laccy band to stop it bouncing out though.
