After getting soaked (really soaked) last night I had to clean the black sludge off my brake tracks and give the bike a once over but that's it really, I need to source a reusable zip tie to put my guards back on as this summer is a joke

Removed FSA carbon inline seatpost and fitted a Thomson layback seatpost - bit easier on the back!

Cleaned and Lubed the chain, makes me so much happier as it no longer sounds like I am grating a hammer.

This weather is playing havoc with my drive chain and i only recently changed the chain, cassette and cranks.

Yep me too, at the moment i'm cleaning the bike 2-3 times a week - the full degrease and lube type clean. I'm damned if i'm going to get the winter commuter out in July

Took new wheels out of box, fit rim tape, tubes and tyres, fit cassette over from old wheels. Put wheels on bike, went out for a short spin.

    Wow.

Swapped choobs at the roadside. Done it rather quickly cause I knew it was a snakebite visit, choob out, new choob in, refit wheel and inflate choob. Pick up helmet and glasses and ride off.

Bit of an overhaul for the commuter: swapped the 52 ring for a 50, new wheels from PX, so new cassette, so new chain, and new jockey wheels. Bit of a wipe down, but not too much.

Swapped the more flexible and padded selle italia for my 130mm Romin and redid the seat height lower and the seat a bit further forward, felt a lot better but just odd after having the seat too high.

Was given a MTB recently with mis-matched gears, mechs & shifters and a very loose feel to it.

A bit of time playing with it and the headset is much tighter, and smoother. The gears are a non-starter with 7 speed front shifters and a six speed cassette, and a double clanger front shifter on a 3 ring set up. Settled on using the middle + big ring and the smoothest change around the middle gears on the cassette.

And blew the tyres up too. The quickest bang for your buck with a ropey bike is to whack some air in the tyres.

It'll do for Boy Elder to get to school on, and I can have my old Sit Up & Beg back.

I have shamed myself and let you all down, I purchased a new cable set for the trek two weeks ago and so far have managed to only remove the old ones.

Too much work and not enough fetting time

Gave the wheels a bit of a true to get them back to being just so, and re-indexed the gears just because it's a three or four button push to do it and it seemed rude not to.

Replaced the 5 broken spokes and 3 other visibly damaged ones on the rear wheel from the dawes and trued it (not totally perfect but pretty good for now). Switched the cassette back over and switched it for the temp stand in.

Touch wood and all (not been for a ride yet) but quite pleased with my first effort at wheel repair and truing

My big ring was bent. I can only think someone bashed it when it was in a bike rack. Took it apart to fix it. Notice the non drive bearing is dry and feels a bit rough. I see new crankset on the horizon.

I bought a full gear & brake cable set 2 months ago. Still not touched it

Changed a the 10 mm spacer to 2x 5 mm ones and put one above and one below the stem, trying to stretch myself out a bit more, cleaned the drive train and that's it.

I think 6 speed & 7speed shifters have the same cable pull. So if you set the limit screws up right it should work.

I got sick of my jumping gears and fitted a new cable and indexed them. So hopefully no more annoying gear jumps when I'm climbing... until the cassette is gone.

@Mud & CiB 6-7 & 8 are usually (mostly) interchangeable, same distance between each sprocket. Check if the wheel uses spacers to fit a 6x on a 7x hub. For six cogs on a seven shifter you'll need to set the L limit screw so it can't jump off the biggest sprocket.

@Willy B I got the cable last year for a different bike when I changed the rear mech. Didn't use it as the old cable was OK. It's good to keep a stock of spares, no shame in it.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Rebuilt the winter/commuting/touring bike last night* after getting it home from the powder coaters. Finally finished putting it all together just after midnight thanks to some gear cable related palaver involving a split outer casing and wonky indexing as a result, but sorted it eventually & everything worked just great on the ride in this morning. Although I had been riding in on my race bike whilst the usual machine was away at the paint shop so the sudden drop back into more sedate performance (milk float rather than Eurostar) was a bit of a shock, especially going uphill. Still, I have my panniers and guards back so practicality wins out!

Fitted a new chain to the commuter. Gawd, the old one was very stretched. Explains the jumping gears I've had for the past week or so...

Lending my old Marin to a friends Dad for when he comes up to watch the road race. As the steering seemed to have a mind of it's own I stripped, cleaned, regreased then adjusted the headset. Better now, but still a bit rough.

Gears are still jumpy. Drive train swap at the weekend I think.

Built up my classic steel steed after stripping to components and servicing wheels and headset. New cables, bar tape and bb. Trust campag to require an obscure tool to fit a bb!

I am going to ride it for the rest of this year and then possibly send it to Argos cycles for a full respray in the winter, I may even go as far as buying a nice seatpost and brake set for it.

Forced to fettle this evening after yet another rattling ride on the old/new steel, took the cassette off and tried several spacers to get a less wobbly fit, amazingly I found that no matter what spacer I used there was still a tiny bit of lateral play, I checked this against the 5 other shimaNO equipped bike I have and sure enough they all have a little rocking space, none of my Campag set up have this.

Cleaned rear mech and chain AGAIN then completely reindexed my SRAMpagnolo, there's a huge space between the high front mech and chain, it's the only way to get quiet running :?
