A vendor got me terribly terribly drunk last night and so I'm working from home.
Between dropping the kids off at school and my first conference call I've changed the tyres (CX off and 25mm tyres on), changed the cassette and have taken the crankset (175mm 36/44) and chain off. When I finish my current call, I'll be putting on the new crankset (172.5mm 53/39) and re-arranging the front mech.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Excellent!
Please be putting tape measure/vernier/thumb between top of forks and between sets of stays to estimate Max. Tyre size; looking at studded tyres and thinking my frame choices are few.Location: ciderspace0 -

It's a kind of work.
Back to back calls from 10-16.30 so I'm counting 9-10 as my lunch hour. Unfortunately the existing front mech cable isn't long enough so I've got to thread a new one. Might get chance to do that if I have any particularly boring calls this afternoon.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

I was thinking of changing the 50t to a 44t on my Synapse, but a little unsure if I'd be able to drop the FD enough, it being a braze on mech.
Have you encountered any problems lifting your FD up? Thanks.0 -

Other than needing to replace the cable, no.
Every braze on I've had has enough ceiling for a 53t or more.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Jinx.
Struggling to correctly set-up this 6800 front mech. I just can't get it in the outer ring without rubbing. I'm going to get a professional to look at it. Grrrrr.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Oh no I'm not!
I won't try to teach you to suck eggs with things like " have you allowed for the trim feature".
Once it's sorted , it'll be another love affair.0 -

I was up until 1 last night trying to get it to work. I even took the crankset off to make sure it was properly inserted.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Asprilla - don't feel bad - I had the same with my 5800 and it STILL rubs with in big-small, and sometimes with 2nd smallest. I have no idea how to do it properly, but can't bring myself to get a professional to look at it.
LCW do owe me some work though0 -

Building up a 36H front wheel for the hell of it. Took about 5 or 6 attempts before I understood it. Handy tip: Ignore anyone on YouTube telling you how to build wheels and just read the Sheldon Brown article! If I had gone there first I could have done it a lot faster, but I wasn't in a rush, I was just learning how to do it. I even "found" a truing stand in my house after a tidy up, as if some god is watching over me knowing I need one. I mean what are the chances?CitizenLee wrote:Pre-fettle as today I discovered 30/32 loose spokes and two missing nipples...

My Triban 3 rear wheel did the same but only on the non-drive side. Was so loose the dish was easily 10mm out. Factory built of course. Think of the torque on the hub flange on a 22T chainring with a 32T or 34T cassette sprocket.0 -
Fitted the White Industries onto the Halo wheel and onto the SS which now means I'll have to pedal more as the noise of the freewheel will make it all to obvious my lack of pedalling.CitizenLee wrote:Pre-fettle as today I discovered 30/32 loose spokes and two missing nipples...

The rear wheel I built for my PX went like that, though not as loose. Easily unnoticed cause of the disc brakes not making the rim rub the brake blocks.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
@Manc33 & redvee
Glad I'm not alone then!
The worst offenders were the non drive side too, but the others were almost as bad.
I've pretty much rebuilt it now though, and managed to get it about 95% true but unfortunately one of the nipples appears to be wedged inside so decided it’s a job for the weekend as it was bit late to be tapping it out with a rubber mallet! Must be stuck at the weld.
So, I took the Nukeproof today which was a bit of an effort with 5.5” travel and chunky 2.3” tyres! Was a lot comfier ride mind youCurrent:

Laced up first ever wheel, which appears to have retained many wheel-like qualities despite my best efforts to get it wrong. Final tensioning tomorrow I think. Don't want to push my luck this evening.Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0

well after my chain coming off 7 times on the commute in this morning i have just spend a few minutes fiddling with the front mech screw as the barrel adjuster appears to be knackered.

Found the nipple which was lost in the rim... no amount of rubber mallet tapping would free it so completely rebuilt the bike in anger and was just away to put it back in the basement when I heard the rattle! So dismantle it again, refit nipple and my back wheel feels like new... or better than new since Cube obviously didn't spend much time or effort on it!Current:

Upsized the front rotors to 180 mm on two wheel sets for my CX bike and fitted 0.25 mm washers to align both rotors to sit exactly in the same spot between the pads... had an hour of turning the Torx 25 later... very pleased with myself... 8)left the forum March 20230

How different does the 180mm feel?
Done most of the assembly of the new Cotic 29er today. Need to drop the forks back out to cut the steerer tube then fit gear cables and the chain and I'm ready for a shakedown ride. Finally.0 -

Well done - though full hydraulic or HyRds would have rendered this unnecessary (possibly both the 180 rotors as well as the adjustment). Interested to hear how you get on with 180ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
Fitted 35c Schwalbe Marathon ice spikers to the new cx bike last night, surprisingly easy to fit. Commute in was ace, the added grip is really confidence inspiring, particularly as my commute is all small country A roads that haven't seen a gritter.

Different money... I spent less than 20 quid. I have Campagnolo 9 speed Ergos so no hydraulics and not sure HyRd works that well with the Mach 2 levers either.
I am waiting to get a new rear derailleur delivered and I'll be back on the road...left the forum March 20230 -
Finally got the Cotic 29er together. Needs a bit of tweeting and adjusting but feels good already. Hopefully get some time tomorrow.0
