I took your advice NapoleanD and stuck with my rims for now but am looking into upgrading the spokes and poss hub also, gonna try dave hinde or maybe terry dolan to see what sort of price i am looking into. I took my cpx22's out for a spin today in their new GP4000s skins and my word they stick on the corners like a fly on s**t !!
Bloody good tyres and worth the £65 i paid for them!

Unfortunately my Spesh Tarmac Elite STILL isn't ready to be picked up.

What are these GP4000s when they're at home? ;) It's probably a silly question, but are they puncture proof? I'm so used to the immortal Schwalbe Marothon Plus tyres on my hybrid that I think I will have forgotten how to change a puncture.

Gp4000s are fabulously sticky, confident and fast racing tyres. I have them on my race bike and gatorskins on my training/commute bike.

I wouldn't bother about the new hubs and spokes, just use those as training wheels and get yourself a nice pair of wheels for sportives, racing, etc...

Told you Gary...... Easton EA90 SLX wheels. They'll pimp the bike nicely and the same colours as the frame
  • How much are they though? Are they better than the Mavic Ksyriums ?

  • I picked up my 2010 Tarmac Elite on Saturday. \o/

I'm absolutely loving it - it just makes me wonder how I managed to just 'get by' on my old hybrid for the last couple of years.

Thanks again for the help, Speed_King - I think it was your enthusiasm for the bike that convinced me that it was the one to go for.
  • glad i could help mate enjoy it it is a superb bike and good for upgrading too lol

Not my bike. I assume you can order it from anywhere that does Spesh bar tape in the near future...

It's the S Wrap Triple Density and comes in a variety of colour combos.
  • it looks like the d2 that is on the pro sl ? fair enough
    G.H.Allum
  • Nap D, iJUst got off the phone with the tech guys at specialized who tell me they will be launching the product in jan after the xmas break. The Expert and Pro SL pair are sporting the pro D2 wrap which is similar to the triple density only slightly dearer so they tell me but they are not releasing prices unitl Jan like i said, so i got to wait till then i guess but a deff nice choice for my frame.

  • Nice - but I still prefer the glossy finish of the Tarmac Elite.

    /is not biased. At all.
  • Me too But there is something about have matt finished carbon frame dont you agree?

But i am well happy with my Elite also, wouldnt change it at all STILL CANT WAIT FOR THAT TAPE!! (although i may go for the fizik microfibre instead it has a nice suede feel to it.

  • Well i did it Nap D I went and bought the most comfortable tape there is the fis'ik microfibre and it sits nicely i did widen the amount of carbon shown and i thnk it looks ok ?

    So wrong.
  • I think it the bontrager wheels look ok i admit that cause the brands are never seen on standard bikes it may apear weird, but when all is said and done it looks cool i think!

Have decided on getting either the Easton EA90 wheelset or the carbon clinchers from Mavic i like both.

    Hi peeps.

I've noticed an odd 'creaky' noise coming from the front of my Tarmac - which is usually more audible when I'm attempting to get up a very steep hill.

Should I be worred? Or is it just the noise that wheels make when they flex?

    Possibly the bar/stem interface?

That sounds...erm...serious? What do you mean, exactly?

just tighten the clamp bolts a bit and see if it goes away. Failing that, take the thing off and apply a tiny amount of grease to the contact points and to the bolt threads themselves before reassembly.

My old bike would creak a lot when heaving on the bars.

No, just may need tightening or a tiny dab of grease on the contact points.

I used to get this with my seat post.

It's very likely your wheels. You can hear me coming from miles away when I'm out of the saddle - my front wheels make that much noise. If you can - try tightening your hubs and check your spoke tension.

Alternatively - if you can swap your front wheel for another one (friend's, spare, etc) and see if the noise goes away- then it's the wheel. If the noise is still there - it's something else.

Bottom bracket creaks are also known to sound like they are coming from the front end. Or could be stem/bars as others have said.

Me likey that bar tape very much - just switched to the Fizik dual in black and red - but it's still a bit stripey for my liking...

May look at this Spec. one...

    Re: Creaky noise.

Could be bars/stem, could be a wheel, could be your saddle. Could be something else..
