It's going to be an interesting finish. Several Rabo riders are at the back, too tired after chasing to do much more. But it'll take an organised team to keep the pace high on the climb if teams want their sprinter to win, otherwise it'll start attacking all the time. Can Cavendish hold on?

The remainder of the climb is 3% but with one 600m section at 6%. If Cav holds on...

Cervelo should have a dig to ditch him (Cavendish)

I think this is cav's providing his team can pull in whoever goes off the front. I don't doubt he can get over this climb without issue

Nice to see the rainbow jersey in action but with a wide descent into a tailwind, Ballan and Lefevre will need a lot of luck, especially given the number of Columbia riders able to chase. Voeckler is poised with the leaders to respond in case the duo are caught.

With this descent it could be a re-enactment of Sanremo.

  • thunder & lightening is further ahead up the course...

could prove interesting if it gets to a bunch sprint ...Cav - keep a straight line, no dodging round puddles in front of Thor! :D

Still going to be hard for Cav. His team mates are busting a gut on the descent, stopping attacks in the last 5km won't be easy. They need two fresh riders for the final 1000m. And that's before the commissaires appear

Not just the group he is close enough to kiss cav's ass...
  • is today classified as a flat stage - how many points for the top places for Cav / Thor to fight over?

Milram helping on the chase, possibility of counter attacks if/when the two are dragged back?
