Stage 18: Annecy ITT SPOILER
Comments

my sister is on the course near one of the corners, lemme txt her for some weather updates!!0
-
A set of interesting TT-ers about to start within half an hour of each other: Lang, Devolder, Cancellara, Posthuma, Perez, Bruseghin, Millar, Guttierez0
-
Looks like Ignatiev's time is genuinly fast: Clement, Grabsch and Rogers all losing 1:22/3 on him. Or better early weather?0
-
Chinny's on the course. No Mekon to foil him this year. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0

An utterly flawed projection here, but if the Prologue speeds were exactly repeated today, the GC would be like this at the end of the day:
1. Contador
2. A Schleck +4.15
3. Armstrong +4.52
4. Kloden +4.54
5. Wiggins +4.56
6. Nibali +5.58
7. F Schleck +6.48
It would make for one hell of a podium battle.Twitter: @RichN950 -
Looks like Ignatiev has the measure of spartacus over the first 18k
starting to look as good as schumacher, eh?
Fat people are so insensitive0 -
ITV4 has just come on - showing yesterday's highlights if you missed it.Head Hands Heart Lungs Legs0

I hope he picks up the pace! Maybe he's too tired after working for the team and the race will be between the grand tour specialists? But the final TT often throws up surprises. Plenty of time for things to change.0

Does anyone has an idea of wheather/wind differences between now and two hours ago?0

That would be a dream if it turned out like that. All these guys were 'racing' the first TT so you never know. Since it's longer with less climbing Wiggins could do better relative to the Schlecks but I think Armstrong is much stronger now than on day one.0 -
Millar in third place at the first time check.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom0

Pain and strain only make him stronger, so he goes faster."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Cancellara still 11 seconds down at 3rd time check.0
-
He's pulling back time and is an excellent technician on the descents, I'd expect him to gain those 11 seconds on the run back into Annecy. Should be close.
And that's before the likes of Contador, Kloeden, Wiggins etc do their thing.0 -

No temps from Annecy but at Chambery it was 28.6 at 1100 BST and 31.5 at 1300 BST. Wind speed has increased quite a bit in that time and is now a 20km southerly. Annecy isnt that close but i think they should be reasonably similar.

Temperature has dropped from 30.4 to 22.5 at Lyon in the same time as rain has started there0 -
It's predicted the storms near Lyon will blow over towards Annecy, possibly in time for the GC leaders.
Karma would see Freiburg's star student Andreas Kloeden struck by lightning0 -
Cancellara 9 secs up at 4th checkCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom0

nicely paced from Fabian

Millar fourth so far. Should be able to overtake Grabsch on the climb.0

Millar now 3rd at 4th time check - a great ride.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom0

Millar finishes 3rd - 38 secs down on CancellaraCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom0

Dave Z going well. Was gonna pick him coz he's been strong the last few days...0

Wiggo's warming up to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BD-c8padYs0

Lionel "Cadel" Birnie just pointed out on Twitter that Bruyneel will follow Lance, Gallopin follows Klodi, who follows Contador?
You can see why the Berster has his own mechanic etc...Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Taking a longer view, it's bizarre that Bruyneel and Armstrong have done so much to destabilise Contador. The Spaniard is 26 and on course to win a second Tour de France. Given the way he is riding, I imagine the next five Tours are sewn up* so driving Contador into the arms of a rival team seems a bizarre idea.
* unless it's Bruyneel's magic potion that's the secret.0 -

I totally agree. Are they pinning their long-term hopes on Taylor Phinney? It doesn't make much sense, unless it is all about LA's ego.
And Alberto has to think long and hard about where he ends up next.0
