    Stunning build!
Not too sure about the silver thompson bits and the bars, but as long as you like them!

Bet you've not ridden it yet ;)

  • Ohhhh, so you were building an ORANGE P7???

You should have made a thread about it.

Very nicely done DMC, glad all the hard work paid off in the end.

Now, personally, I'm not a fan of the Shimano flats. And your stem / spacer arrangement looks odd. But that's just me, if it works for you, fair play.

VERY nice looking bike. Hopefully, you still remember how to ride one so can go get it muddy. I trust you have booked the rest of the year off so you can fully enjoy all your hard work.

    .
He's probably just done that so that he can move the stem around a bit to suit his needs as he's discovering how the bike rides and then he'll cut it down later.
I tend to chop the steerer down as short as it will go as soon as i get the forks/frame.

That's what I do too, which is probably why it looks so odd to me.

    Thanks :D

I guess, as its not normally the colour you expect for bars it takes a few looks to get used to it, but it works for me (WMB IIRC rated them highly but they said amongst the reviewers it was a bit of a marmite thing) :D

The silver Thomson stuff really lightens up the whole bike, I found that the black made it too dark and it looks lurvley in the flesh. Also the bars are top quality, and the colour is a decent match for the fork stanchions.

    Thanks mate :D

The stem/spacer thing is going to be sorted after I find the sweet spot, so I'll cut the steerer abit more and tidy it up.

As for the Shimano flats, I did struggle with this part to be honest, as it was a choice between looking the best vs strength and longevity, and the latter won, & thankfully I'm happy with my final choice :D

IMO it was worth the wait....but not that long

looks amazing. very nice build indeed

    what i don't like:
pedals: they are very good but they looks too big for a build like this. if i were you i would be tempted with superstar nano tech flats in red
saddle: just looks odd to me and am not a fan of syncros

Thanks Jay, & I'll try and keep the next build shorter!

As mentioned above, the pedals were a trade off between looks and strength, and once I'm riding I can't see them anyway, lol

I guess, the saddle, like most things in life is a personal choice, but I really like the way it looks, also the colours match my build and its very comfortable too 8)
  • DMC - that looks absolutely stunning and you can see a lot of thought and planning has gone into that particular build.

I think it all looks ace and I thoroughly agree on the silver thomson kit Iit lightens the look up and IMHO looks fantastic and a total break from the norm.

All the attention to detail is fantastic, and (contrary to Jay12s comments) I think the pedals are ace (one of the best flats out there IMO) and the syncros saddle is awesome, nice to see such a legendary brand getting back out there.

All in all top work, yes it took forever and a day, but it was worth it and you must be chuffed with the outcome. Top work all around... now you have to do the unthinkable and get it dirty (Im the worst at that part) ;)

    your just saying that :(

    :lol::lol:
  • Very very nice build, loving the silver Thomson kit deffo a break from the norm :) Them forks are LUSH! and the brakes are sweeet :) Handlebars and seat is only thing that spoils it for me but your arse will be on the seat and the bars and personal preferance :)

Now its time for you to get it dirty! lol
  • Duuuuuuuuuuddddeeeeee. get those pedals changed now! On such a nice build they ruin it completely.

Get over to superstar and get some nano flats with red pins.

    Also lacking in mud!

IMO it looks awesome except for the silver bits, I think black would have suited it better. But well done DMC for a first build!:D

tbf the pedals are incredible, ive been running them on the maxlight for three years and they still run mega smooth, but its a chunky frame so i guess they look abit on that they do ona skinny steel frame.

awesome build btw DMC how are the troy lee grips?? got a pair on order myself :)

    Lovely build,

I really can't appreciate the time it took to get all this together, I've been waiting 8 weeks for a set of Industry Nine wheels and it's killing me, slllloooowwwllllllyyy :-)

I hope you enjoy the pants off of it, now go and get it muddy !!

Nice bike - word of warning on the dx flats though, the standard short pins were responsible for my first & only "superman" jump (landed in hedge still holding onto bars, feet flailing behind me), if you're planning on riding in wet/muddy conditions i'd source a set of the longer pins, makes a huge difference to grip!

And I like the silver stem & post - top job, looks great - i'm glad I stumbled across this post just in time for the pics though!

  • @ The Big Cheese,

Thanks for the kind words, I'm deffo very pleased with it, especially as it was my first ever build and I'm mechanically inept  And what is this 'dirty' that you speak of? No comprendo!

    @ j96_2,

    Cheers :D

    @ orange_man,

Thanks dude, and theres that 'dirty' thingymajig again???

    @ The Northern Monkey,

Me likey my pedals and also for the reasons explained above, but I have some pedals in mind just in case I get the upgrade-itis thats going around (or sidegrade-itis really) Anywhoo those Ultra Mags are nice'n'all but from what I understand they aren't suitable for the heavier ones amongst us?

    @ mrfmilo,

    Thanks :D

    @ Torres,

    Why thankyou dear boy :D

    @ lawman,

Thanks, & the grips are rather nice I must say. They are very very grippy, compared to other grips that I have used and seen, not sure how the white will hold up but they'll do the job nicely though!

    @ chaz1979,

Thankyou and I will certainly update with ride reports :D

    @ alexj2233,

Thankyou very much kind Sir :D

    @ Simonhi,

Thankyou too Simon, 8 weeks for a set of wheels? I do feel your pain, as with every part purchased I could hardly wait to order the next part, which sometimes did take a while to save the money needed! Mu...what? Sorry can't hear you, you'll have to speak up

    @ mcj78,

Thanks for the heads up, I do have a set of the longer pins as they came with the pedals, so when the weather turns I'll change them over. And thanks for the props :D

    @ MountainMonster,

Thanks matey, I can supply a full resolution photo if you want to print one off, hee hee

    @ Radioactiveman,

I haven't had the chance to ride it yet, but I'm aiming to very very soon, once I've done so I'll report back :D
  • You know, if you could supply a high res photo for us to print off that would be awesome. Can email me at seanthe1@hotmail.com
