Yeah, thats one of the things that helped me to decide, is that if I build the bike, then should anything happen when I'm away from home I'll be in a position to fix it (generally speaking)0 -
Hallelujah!
It can be daunting at first to do stuff you haven't done before, but everyone has to start somewhere right? And it just starts to make sense after learning from your mistakes and errors.
It's like the whole "it's easy when you know how" thing.
Have you got a workstand? Makes things a lot easier, especially indexing gears, but by no means essential.0 -

Its funny you should say this, as I'm starting to understand alot more now that I'm looking deeper into the various jobs that'll need doing, and its nice to know, however you can't replace practical experience, and I'm hoping it'll be a good one for me!
I haven't got a workstand, I'd love one but I wont be able to get one for a little while, so I've enlisted the wife to help hold the bike up whilst I index the gears!Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Can't hear you, lalalalalalalaaaa
Build Day 1: Lots happened (for me at least). I've been taking things slowly just to be sure and as well, I've not not been feeling too good today either, so all being ok, the build should be finished tomorrow.
I have pics of the build process, so I will aim to get them up late tomorrow or Monday as I want to take some photos of the finished bike in good daylight, so depends on the time I finish tomorrow.
Its been a great feeling to actually do this myself and I really can't wait to start using it, ooooo its exciting :oops:Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

There is a massive satisfaction from building your own bike. The best bit is when you finish indexing the gears and are able to take your hard work for its first quick run up the road to double check nothing falls off it
Trust me building the bike yourself is the best possible thing you can do, you will gain so much knowledge from doing it yourself.0 -

its doing my head in waiting 3 weeks for my new frame to arrive and as soon as it does bike will be built in about 30-45mins.
its taken approx 9 days to get all new bits together.
This just takes the buscuit, its bad karma faffing about for this long, ive got a bad feeling about this, possable theft or bad crash imminent.0 -

He was pm'ing me regarding the front mech size the other day so maybe he has a few parts that don't fit?
No idea..0 -
I have spoken to DMC today, and can confirm there have been some complications (none of which are his fault), that have delayed the completion slightly.
Obviously, it's his build, and it's not really my place to comment on what's going on with it. I know he's knocking about somewhere, so I'll leave him to update you if he so wishes.0 -

is this debacle still going on?0

This is like when a mate asks you to help plan his wedding to a bird your not sure about. A long drawn out process involving a myriad of details you don't care about but have to attend to anyway. All with a nagging doubt that it might not be worth it in the end!
Anyway DWC I hope it's all going well, but after spending 20+ minutes reading the thread last week I'm committed. I'm in. Let the dog see the rabbit. WHERE IS IT?!0 -
