tube strike and numpy cyclists

It was a bit mad out there this morning  I saw a number of bikes and riders that probably shouldn't be on the road. One went through a red light on the Strand whilst nearly coming off. Another was plodding along and seemed to be really struggling. Then again he was in the biggest cog on the front and smallest on the back  (is that the highest or lowest gear? I can never remember). There are also a lot of buckled wheels and faulty brakes around today and a lot of mtbs :?

Hopefully the weather will stay dry but I expect a slow and rather amusing ride home this evening

Coming in from the west there was a lot more bikes than normal, but in general behaviour was no worse than normal either (i.e. it was bloody awful :? )

The bigger problem was with a few outer London mini-cabs who's drivers obviously couldn't cope with the stress of central London roads.

Noticeably more cars on the road this morning. The traffic was more stop start because every pedestrian crossing was being used. Quite nice to have a critical mass of cyclists at every set of lights along the King's Road (although there was a lot of RLJing).

Saw a few absolute numpties this morning on bicycles. One guy almost came a cropper with some absolute lunatic filtering, lane changing and squeezing through gaps, crazy thing is I think I've seen this guy before and he is a regular commuter - how he is not a darwin award winner is beyond me. All of this though was far far outweighed by the extra people in cars and on motorbikes who clearly don't drive around London on a regular basis.

One question: Where do all these people think they are going to park?!!??

    Stay sharp tonight.

Despite the fact that there are no Tube lines in SE London motor traffic was noticeably heavier, however there were possibly fewer cyclists which is a bit mystifying.

Traffic was gridlocked from Lewisham/New Cross onwards but I was able to sweep past it all. There were many more peds in central London though, almost slammed into one doing the usual meander through the gridlocked traffic, plugged into ipod without a glance to see if anything else was coming. I shouted to make him notice, but he was completely oblivious with the ipod in his ears...

  • Morning,
First post ever after much lurking. Today seems a good moment to start though.

I barely saw any cyclists on the road at all coming in from North Finchley around 9am. There was, however, an irksome traffic jam of angry drivers that stretched pretty much from Tally Ho Corner to Westbourne Grove. Some people are really thick.

Out of the window of the bus this AM I saw multiple potential incidents which can only be described as lunacy, including people pulling out in front of lorries on roundabouts and people traversing over red lights with cars coming from the side.

I would be surprised if there were no major accidents in London..

Edgeware road was gridlocked. Lots of inexperienced riders, I overtook one bloke going round a bus, gave him plenty of room but he cuaght sight of me and braked so hard he locked his back wheel - no idea what he was worried about but I was glad I'd given him a wide berth.

Some truly heinous RLJ'ing going on as well. I must admit I had a huge grin on my face as filtered at speed.

Bob Crow and the RMT are a massive bunch of C*nts though.

Well I decided to work from home as I didn't fancy taking part in the SE London leg of the Wacky Races in the rain :)

I commute on my mtb, wasn't aware I shouldn't be

Seriously though, chaos out there today, but mostly seemed to be caused by ridiculous amount of 4 wheel traffic. Wherre are these people going, and as said before, where are they planning to park??? Got an image of cars just circling London until 5, then heading back off home.

We need driverless tube trains like on the DLR.

Have you seen the work conditions that Tube drivers alredy get? 35 hour week + 6 weeks holiday + 4 weeks paid sick leave which, if they don't use they can take as holiday. That's potentially 10 weeks off a year and a working week that is almost half mine.... And they want more, in the middle of a recession when everyone else is struggling. Was reading somewhere else today that in fact a lot of Tubes are running despite the strike. Seems that many Tube drivers have realised that they are literally taking the p*ss now.

And they want guarantees that there'll be no enforced redundancies. What f*cking planet do they live on? I have zero sympathy for them, paid more than nurses as it is. Not to mention that this whole thing started as they were cross 2 members were sacked, one for theft, one for opening the doors on the wrong side then lying about it! Greedy, selfish c*nts. They can F*CK right off the lot of them.

Don't mince your words! Bring Baroness Thatcher out of retirement. She'd screw the b*stards into the ground like she did with Arthur Scargill.... One last victory.

What odds that the French fishermen will blockade Calais at the same time as a tube strike during the Olympics?

Saw a person fall off in Tooting, looked like he was drafting a fixed gear and didn't anticipate the guy infront stopping.... Well that's what it looked like from the inside of my car....

I have driven every day this week so far. Its starting to get to me...

my commute (crouch end to regents park) seemed fine... hardly any 'numpties'. lots more car traffic though.

although, as i came through camden, i did see an awesome one – girl with massive sennheiser headphones on (i have the same ones at home, they block out ALL SOUND), loaded carrier bag on the handlebars, massive backpack and helmet... hanging off the back of her backpack.

    a) why so much stuff?
    b) if you're not going to wear the helmet, why carry it?

Crashed into a numpty this morning. He went to the centre line of the road as if to turn rightand then carved a big arc to a left hand junction across the front of me, i pod on and not looking, grrrr. Luckily not going too fast and managed to grab a handful of brakes.
Might ride home even slower tonigh, it's a bit dangerous for racing at the mo!

I saw one girl on a bright pink Dutch bike nattering on her mobile whilst negotiating 3 lanes of traffic along st George's Drive. Mental.

As I think I said yesterday, one good by product of the strike is that it may encourage peeps to give cycling a go. I've got nothing against newbie's, glad to see 'em but they get a wide berth as they can be unpredictable - God knows I must have been!

I got stopped by the police (first time ever). Was going the wrong side of an island near London Bridge. I was in the wrong, but was rolling through with my foot down as the traffic blocked the correct side. I think he just wanted to rant at someone.

Otherwise the cyclists were ok. Lost of car traffic.
