I picked up my Boardman Pro 09 mtb Monday night from Halfords - rode it home. Tuesday cycled to work, went to a relatives and on way home...left pedal flew off and sheared the threads on the Stylo crank arm.

Gutted to say the least, and glad it happend two minutes walk from my house. However I now have to take it back to Halfords who today said they will replace it all on the spot tomorrow evening.

Basically a word of warning really - when you pick it up, check everything is tightened up as this appears to be the fault of the young lad who built it up at Halfords last weekend...!

Other than that, the bike is brilliant, I exchanged my GT I-Drive xcr5 (idrive was creaky...) and the Boardman is just so much more fun to ride (the ltd time I used it lol!) - very quick and overall worth the money.

Now...I have a date with a Halfords employee for a lynching tomorrow night ha ha

Enjoy the bike when you get it - I am.

Pedals can come loose when new.

No need to kick up a fuss about it to the guy thats fixing it for you mate as he might not be the one that built it in first place.

Well, some progress pics. Recent "upgrades" (in addition to WCS Carbon bars & X0 shifters)....

    Schwalbe Nobby Nics
    Ritchey WCS Carbon Stem
    Ritchey WCS Carbon Seatpost

Some nice upgraded CBs here.. what size stem and seatpost did you go for? What size is 'standard'?

I ended up getting a 110mm stem and 27.2 dia. x 350mm long seat post.

The seatpost is exactly the same size as the Ritchey Pro which I replaced and I think the stem is pretty much the same as well.

You considering some upgrades to your then ? :)

Stock stem on the HT Pro is 100mm I think. I upped to the Ritchey WCS 4-Axis '44' Wet Black, 100mm. Don't like the idea of a carbon stem for some reason!

I ordered the carbon Ritchey Superlogic Low Rizer bars today, but they bloody arrive until Monday because of the pesky Royal Mail strike! :x

Shouldn't really.. but wouldn't rule it out ;)

Thinking probably the WCS carbon riser bars and either the WCS carbon or a Carbon Cycles seat post. Undecided on the stem - may just go with the lightweight alloy version as there's hardly any difference weight-wise versus the carbon one, and half the price..

Do it! You can pick up the WCS carbon rizer bar for £65 from Merlin Cycles...but, you can also pick up the new Ritchey Superlogic Rizer for £5 more, from here - http://www.bodywisecycles.com/Store/ind ... ductId=343

Superlogic is 145g, WCS is 160-170g depending on the model. The extra £5 seems worth it to me.

Good spot - ordered! That's half the weight of the standard bars..

Will have a measure up tonight to see what length seat-post I can get away with..

Nah didnt go crazy at the guy (was a different lad anyway). He was excellent, they didnt have another Pro in stock so he took a replacement off the display one, and switched it over for me. Also spent 20 mins going round the bike and tweaking a few things after a couple of rides around their car park. Re lubed some things and apologised for the bike being passed to me without a thorough check over.

They also threw in a voucher to say sorry for the hassle - so overall my respect for Halfords has been redeemed...!

Definately going to "pimp" my Pro after seeing these pics, Nobby Nics ordered for the winter months and will go the carbon bar and carbon seat post route - they finish off the look imo.

Just need to organise a better saddle, my arse is killing LOL

I must admit, I was hesitating to start with myself then realised the stem isn't 100% carbon, and I already had the WCS carbon seatpost and bars so thought bugger it, need to keep it looking the same throughout, although yes, the £££ certainly adds up

  • Got mine today.

Went in and just took it still in the box, not that i didn't trust the guy but i wanted it now damn it! hahaha and wasn't willing to drive back in tomorrow to pick it up, so i have just started building it.

Points that have been highlighted but i will also second (even though i haven't ridden it yet) the tyres will have to got, they even look a bit lack luster, but i'll either keep them or sell them on.

Looks are everything as we know, it does look a nice beast and i'm definately liking the white, after having two black bikes in my shed, this is the angel next to two dark beasts.

Gonna get some cheap dmr's and bits and bobs to stop rubbage then ride the bloody thing.
  • what grips are you using jmillen? i may need some because i just ordered some carbon bars for my boardman because of you. did you manage to get the standard grips off because they look like them. your bike looks awesome i can see me ordering the seatpost next month now!

I'm using Spank lock on's at the moment.

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Spank_Lock-On_Grip_with_Alloy_Logo_End_Caps/5360040076/

I didnt get them from there, just from my LBS.

I'll be replacing them at some point, but not sure what with yet though

    Okay peeps...opinions please...

Firstly, I've got these on their way (just fancied something different):
    grip1.jpg
Tempted by a new chainset, looking at the following, any thoughts? I'm thinking the black as the white maybe a bit too much with the frame and various other bits being white. Grateful for your opinions

Basically, I can't think of anything else to get for it at the moment, although I do keep meaning to get that saddle don't I

  • I'm lovin the "pimp your Boardman" thread

I opted for the ht/comp & opted for a Books B17 now bedded in nicely!
  • I've also got those same Peaty grips.
Very nice grips, however, just cleaned mine to put them on the new bike and it was a pain in the ass. They are made from very sticky rubber and seem to really hold onto muck and grease.

bit scuffed due to three trips over the handlebars....but runs like a dream with the twist shifters far more worthwhile than any carbon.....superfast sure shifting and great sound..scares the crap out of any dog walkers as you approach from behind.... :)

That front mudguard is highly flawed and waste of money ...

Yeap, I've no complaints at all. Worth every penny including all the carbon bits. Lost track of what I've spent now but enjoy every second of being out on it so its worth it

Still need to get pics of my new MG1's, carbon crank and saddle. Will get onto that tomorrow after a good cleaning session me thinks
