I was pleased with sub 7:00 mins! Sub 06:30? That’s just silly......where’s my bike?

Au contraire, Mr GT. I did 6.29 on a second attempt last July and I am, ahem, not slim (although I am relatively better uphill than on the flat). My view is that if I can do it, anyone can. The form from some of these chaps on the RP 3 Lap Challenge suggests that sub-6:30 is very do-able.

Still not what I'd like but getting there. Done on the 3rd lap of the Ballbuster Duathlon so I know I have more left in it, need to do it with somebody else to push me up in a higher gear.

Damn, if I'd sprinted for the line I'd have been up to 2nd! Pleasantly surprised with my form, last year's best recorded time was 7.00 and that was in the middle of etape training so to beat that on my first trip of the year to Surrey Hills was unexpected. Does having a 1.5kg lighter bike make that much difference?!

wow Matt - good going! Methinks I need to actually have a proper go at this Box Hill table. Now the evenings are a little lighter I might venture out on a school night purely for a pop at the hill

Let's get this topic back into gear for 2009!
The start is the turning into the Zig Zag Road and the finish is the entrance to the National Trust car park opposite the tea room at the top.

Approx. I have no gadgets to back this up!

200m probably a little more.

8%

6%

Its never out of the saddle gut busting.

Its really not that testing unless you want it to be, a very nice hill for making yourself work but easily doable at a slow pace.

If you want to rank highly you'll need to be pushing hard, probably out of the saddle sprinting for a high preportion of this though, or averaging high teens seated.

Disclaimer: My maths is not great and I didn't place highly at 11mph average.

@batch 78: many thanks for the estimates and opinion. Having previously anticipated a monster I am now encouraged to have a crack.

All I need now is either find my senior rail card or work out a lightly trafficked route from Putney/Richmond Park.

it would be convenient for me to approach from Leatherhead .

Would the direct route involving 1.5 k of dual c/way A24 be suicidal/unpleasant?

Do the charms of the B2033 via Headley outweigh the incremental distance?

The A24 from Leatherhead isn't too bad now they've reduced it down to a single carriageway. There is a bike lane for most of it and when you get to Mickleham turn left up past the pub and that road will take you to the starting point of the climb, i.e. the turn onto the Zig-Zag.
