Let's get this topic back into gear for 2009!
The start is the turning into the Zig Zag Road and the finish is the entrance to the National Trust car park opposite the tea room at the top. Unlike the RPx3 you don't get to choose which direction you go
(Box Hill Stats: 2.5kms, 133metres vertical gain, average gradient 5.3%

Sub 7 should be on the cards before the end of March.

Much, much room for improvement but better than I would have expected condering the state of my just over a week ago...
The aim is definitely sub 8 minutes (managed 8.20 last year).

Hit Box at about 33 miles into a run out today, having had a couple of big hills earlier in the ride around Ranmore Common. Quite pleased with 8min dead considering that (8m22s last week). 7min has to be the target this year.

Feel this is going to be an exercise of inches (and seconds) over coming months for me.
Posted PB on Saturday, which was surprising after having done a few Ks in the legs.
Started slowly after having gear problems at the start, which cost me a little bit.

Mad keen for a bit of this. I am still being a dunce, just to make sure, you start timing from the near right-angle turn from Old London Road on to Zig Zag road (not the first switchback at the gate with the national trust private road sign, after the tiny carpark on the left)....
and finish at the entrance to the carpark on the left opposite the tearoom at the top (not the small carpark behind the tearoom on the right at the top)?
Only problem now is that it is the fifth substantial climb on my favourite route and I am always knackered. How long before I start making special trips to do just Box?0 -

Yep, although as long as your consistent it doesn't really matter.

Well, for the purposes of this challenge thread it would be nice to have everyone doing the same stretch, but I agree, most people will be racing themselves:)
Thanks for the help, will give it a go!0 -
Might as well stick my time up from a couple of weeks ago

Hi Guys - this was from the RP ride on 22nd Feb. Didnt manage to do anything this week and prob not next week either, but hopefully the weekend after. I would be chuffed with getting under 7min, just need to work out what avg speed this requires then give it a blast from the start.

Thanks for kicking this off again Art. This time was my one trip with the infamous RPCC, with the incentive of Wilf shouting the teas at the top.
Under 7 would be fine if it were the first hill, but I think for most of us we hit this after 1000m of hard climbing.0 -
Great effort all the same.......
indeed my hamstrings were cramping by that stage on that day, so didn't even bother trying to put in a time... think I clocked something like 9.45 - 10 minutes from memory.

First time ever up Box Hill, didn't quite know what to expect. Some of the road surfaces around there are not very friendly are they?
Thanks for starting this, is another interesting challenge. By the way, is that Art Vandelay of Vandelay Enterprises?0 -

No PB today. Legs feeling tired from Richmond. Bit of a non starter as I abandoned the big ring after about 30m  . 7.39 not too bad though. Fortunately didn't have to cough up on the free tea bet. That offer has now expired as I think Chris and James will be sub 7 pretty soon.0

My time from today's RPCC run, I took a nice chunk off my previous time but I think I can go faster still, will give it a better go later on (without murdering myself up leith hill first haha, boy that hurt).

Did this about a month ago as I was trying to guage the course of the Ballbuster, so wasn’t trying, think my HR av was about 140. Got the Ballbuster Duathlon this weekend however so will get three attempts at reducing that time which I’m certain that I will.0 -

That was last weeks' mildly hungover and dehydrated effort (I drank 4.5 litres that ride ). I did manage a better effort back in January, but I cant thnk what it was and I am not about to confabulate. My time will come down, but one thing I was pleased with was that I kept it in the big ring all the way up, perhaps a result of climbing Palomar a few days before...0 -

This came as a bit of a surprise as I wasn't in the PB mindset. Bit of a lead out from Phips and Petro I have to confess 8) . 6.30 before mid May is the next target.0 -
That's serious Art, Phips and Red GT. After several tough hills and lots of miles. If you were fresh I can see the the low sixes, Mark D and Rob J are in sight. Art - with that form you'll soon be hitting 55 in the park.0

Done after about 40miles and Hungry Hill, Peaslake, 'other' Peaslake, Leith Hill and Ranmore. A bit of cheeky drafting for the first 400 metres or so which helped get the speed up. Had some riders ahead to chase which does wonders for the motivation!
Something to aim for, RGB, and you with your 15kg less!!!0
