The ATC2K uses SD Cards, and since a 2G card is as big as you can get with standard SD, it'll have to do! (as far as I know the ATC2K doesn't support SDHC or any non-standard large capacity SD Cards).

On the hightest quality settings (640 by 480, 30 fps), 2G will record just over one hour (obviously slightly variable depending on the complexity of what you record). At the other extreme, using the lowest quality settings (160 by 120, 15 fps), you can get as much as thirteen hours of video!

    Hi,

Other than online, do you know where I could buy one of these in person? I'd heard Jessops sell them but there's no mention on their website.

I would buy online, myself, never from somewhere like Jessops. I got mine from Wiggle. If I'm not mistaken I saw a ¶œ20 Sandisk Extreme III 2GB SD card in one high street shop for ¶œ120!!!!!

I got the Sandisk 2G Ultra II SD card from play.com for œ14.99 (P&P Inc), which has worked pretty much perfectly in the ATC2K.

(The play.com own brand one didn't work at all well however, but it's fine in my el-cheapo digital camera, and I probably won't have to delete an image for the life of the camera!)

How does the ATC2K work when it comes to video editing on your PC? I understand the camera itself, has no bespoke editing software. How easy is it (our home PC has Windows moviemaker for instance) to use the media from the camera with third party digital editing tools?

    Peacenik,

I edit my videos with windows movie maker with no problems. I don't connect the camera directly up to the computer, I take the card out and put it in a reader (which are dirt cheap these days).

I don't have much experience with other software, however, I think as long as the software can read the avi file (i.e. has the correct codec) then you shouldn't have any problems.

Thought I'd post this here as well. It's the Archos helmet camcorder.

The jumps in both sides are my fault (in editing).

Looking again at that footage. It doesn't look like the most enjoyable place to cycle (the clip where the chap falls). All those people wandering across the cycle path. I'd have to slow down from my normal high 30mph average speed[:p]. Give me a busy urban road any day [;)]

Garybee, I was using a bog standard 3mp Kodak digital camera. I had it zip-tied to the underneath of the stem (hence the cables), and I had put a bit a dense foam accros the top to dampen the vibration where the camera was up against the bars/stem. I was reall quite impressed with the result, there is a lot less pixalating than some of the helmet cam footage around.

As for going up, well I don't think the memory card was big enough, so we'll leave it at that shall we[:I]

It looks like there's a big patch of wetness where he went down. Perhaps he tried turning too quickly while on top of it and just slipped over?

Can't speak for Andy, but I use Windows Moviemaker - comes as standard with Windows Office I think (I didn't know I had it until someone here told me - it should be in 'programs' somewhere.) You can add music, cut and edit clips, fade them in and out, add titles and credits and captions etc. Works pretty well for basic film making...

    Tinuts,

Yes the first clip shows some pretty poor driving from the bus driver. This is often the problem, drivers just don't seem to register that cyclists need to keep out where there is an obstacle ahead!

For me the second clip is not so clear cut. I understand that you were following a cycle lane (which looks absolutely useless to me!) but I would never undercut a bus. You are entering a blind spot where the driver might not have seen you. In this situation you are much safer going down the outside or waiting behind.

In fact I would say that the second clip is a good example of why cycle lanes can in a significant number of circumstances make cycling more dangerous!

Yes, I wouldn't be undertaking a bus like that myself, especially not on such a narrow cycle lane. That cycle lane is so narrow I would be sitting well further out from the curb myself. It's hard to tell from such a short clip, but I would probably have been overtaking all that slow traffic on the right, or sitting in the middle of the lane behind the bus. There's a coincidental but rather apt pun in the undertaking on the left. It doesn't excuse the bus driver's move into that cycle lane, of course.

Order a ATC-2000 from Firebox on Firday PM, got it Monday before work[:0]

Used it for the 1st time today and must say I'm impressed (apart from the USB1.1 connection). Other dreaback is the helmet mounting seems very cumbersome. Has anyone got a more elegant solution than the OEM bracket for helmet mounting. The bar mount is very good, but obviously is not following my vision.

What's the quality like on these cameras? It's really difficult to tell from the YouTube clips because they compress them so much. Is it, say, similar to a VHS recording?
