I'm out of action for two weeks for the Sunday rides due to family stuff. Will keep checking the forum to see if there are any midweek ride options.

I'm seriously considering having a go at a MTB event this year, any suggestions ? :D

I keep putting it off due to various excuses, but I really want to have a go at something, but I have no idea where to start ?

Not ready for a 24 hour event just yet and ideally something with a course/route already laid out...

Anyone fancy a go at this event at the Chase; http://www.nps.mfbiz.com/
  • The Kona Mash Uplooks good for a first event.
36km, but only a few stages are timed, so you can take it easy between the end of one timed stage and the start of the next.

The Bristol Bike Fest is another good one. If you can get a team of four for the six hour event on Sunday, that's only an hour and a half, or 2 laps each.

Graham, how's your bike looking ?? Pedals and Forks ??

Post you your GPS so I can work out approx total mileage!!
  • The oil leak from the fork seal seems OK now. Maybe it was just one big hit that forced a bit of oil past the seal.
I wasn't sure about the long term reliability of aralditing the threaded insert back in the carbon fibre crank so I had a look on ebay when I got back, like yer do.
I had a 10% off voucher from paypal valid up to midnight and there was a brand new set of Race Face DH cranks for sale in Stourport. This wasn't coincidence, it was synchronicity. :D

I've bought a helmet cam, although I've got it mounted on the bars at the moment.
Here's some videos from the Wyre Forest today.

Cheers for that info Graham, the Bristol Bike Fest looks just the job, but I'm in Scotland that w'end. I will have a look at the kona mash up in more detail.

Nice vids, which camera did you get ? The camber was perfect on Monday, no mud and it was nice and dusty, I ended up doing it a couple of times :D
  • ATC3K, £80 fom Currys in Kidderminster. About as cheap as anywhere on the web and no postage.
I couldn't get the helmet mount to sit right and it was getting late, so I clamped it on the bars rather than spend any more time on it. It picks up all the noise resonating through the frame though. You can hear my multitool rattling in the saddlebag and doesn't that Rohloff whirr when I pedal. :D

Mounty, I am keen to get my first event sorted too, I reckon you are streets ahead of me on the fitness front though. Keep me posted if you do sign up for anything. Not out in the forest this weekend as I am away in Newcastle for a wedding.
